Being the rank holder twice in GATE ECE(AIR-06,21), I guess I am eligible to answer
this question. Following are some good books and study material I referred to
secure good rank in GATE ECE.
I will be covering the subject wise analysis and strategies which I have used
during my preparation.
Signals and Systems: I referred Tarun Kumar Rawat for building my concepts and
specifically for GATE , I practiced Kanodia book of signal and systems. I also
referred Schaum series for the DTFT,DFT and FFT part.
Network Theory: I read few concepts from Engineering Circuit Analysis by Jack
kemmerly and William H. Hayt. I also used hand written coaching notes for Network
Theory (you can use any coaching notes) and practiced questions from Kanodia.
Communication Systems: This was the subject which used to give me chills during
B.Tech, as it was one of my weakest subject. Although I did my M.Tech In
Tele’Communication’ Technologies itself. (Sort of Irony). So for Analog
Communication system, I used B.P Lathi and for digital communications I referred
Simon Haykins and practiced Schaum series. This can help you to understand better.
For GATE specifically, I practiced bits and Bytes of Ace academy along with
previous years.
Electromagnetic field theory (EMFT): Sadiku is the best book to read. You can
also refer Hayt book for EMFT. For practicing questions, I preferred bits and Bytes
of Ace academy.
Electronics Devices and Circuits (EDC) : I will strongly recommend Donald A
Neeman to read. It helped me alot in learning the basic concepts of EDC. For
practice purpose, you can use its solved question and previous year papers.
Analog Electronics: I referred coaching notes along with Sedra Smith. For few
topics I chose Millman's Integrated circuits which also helped me in interviews.
Kanodia for solving questions.
Digital circuits: Digital circuit is one of the easy subject but the questions
asked in GATE exam on this are conceptual and tricky specially in sequential part.
I referred Morris Mano's Digital Logic and Tocci specially for ADC and DAC part.
Microprocessor and Microcontroller: For microprocessor you don't need to go in
detail, you just need to learn 8085 microprocessor with its assembly language. You
can refer Ramesh Goankar for the same.
Control Systems: It is also one of the basic subject in GATE . I referred
Automatic Control Systems by Hasan Saeed and for solving questions I did bits and
bytes. For frequency domain analysis and plotting part you can practice questions
from AK Jairath too.
Engineering Mathematics: I referred Madeeasy's Engineering mathematics which is
sufficient for learning and practicing it.
General Aptitude: I didn't use any book or material. For aptitude, I used to
practice few quizzes of SSC from different online platform available. English, I
usually skip in exam until and unless there is strong gut feeling to mark some.
So these were some materials/books used by me . Along all these books and
materials, GATE Previous year is must to practice atleast once along with regular
TEST SERIES.
