My name is Samiya Ahmed Abdi and I am lecturer of the University of


Hargeisa, especially the Faculty of Medicine, which I started working in
June 2020. My mission was to share with the students what I had
learned and to realize my dream of one day becoming one of the
lecturers at Hargeisa University, the university where I received most
of my education ( Bsc ,Msc).
Section 2. Small group/interactive teaching

My name is Samiya Ahmed Abdi and I am lecturer of the University of


Hargeisa, especially the Faculty of Medicine, which I started working in
June 2020. My mission was to share with the students what I had
learned and to realize my dream of one day becoming one of the
lecturers at Hargeisa University, the university where I received most of
my education ( Bsc ,Msc).
So as a teacher I started teaching a subject for students in the senior
class of the midwifery department. During the allocated time of the
course I had time to send the students an assignment whose main
objective was to find out their creative abilities or the level of
knowledge and diversity of the students sitting in my class as a teacher.
I explained to the students for the first time how I wanted them to write,
what they should follow and most importantly the style they supposed
to use. During my talk regarding the above mentioned assignment I also
emphasized the importance of referencing by rewriting and rephrasing
the ideas and saying of the books, journals and authors by using
evidence based resources. In addition to what they think and believe
regarding the certain topic they were talking about. Based on the
context and society in which we live in. After we had agreed with the
students what I wanted and when it was time to complete the
assignment.
The students made a presentation by one student randomly selected by
me while the rest of the students were ready to take part in the
discussion that would take place when the student completed the
presentation. So while the students were in the process I looked at how
they were prepared, their confidence, slide preparation and referencing.
One of the things I noticed was that some students were not able to
stand in front of the class because they did not stand in front of the class
and adapted to the presentation process. At the same time students were
not not been told the importance of using evidence based resources.
After looking at the students' mistakes, I first presented the students
with any arguments or questions they had for the students in the other
groups and they talked a lot or it seemed to me that the students were
very interested and wanted to know more about the topics we have been
talking about so they were equal to focusing the presentation and the
form of PowerPoint they were using rather than the main topic itself.
One of the things I came up with was that the students were very
different in the evaluation where there were 12 students and 7 of them
were able to confidently deliver what was required while 5 of them
were not able to do so and found it difficult to speak in front of the
class. When it comes to preparation they were divided into 4 groups 3
of the groups presented the same preparation as I expected while one
group was lower than the other groups. Also, in terms of reference, the
whole group seemed to be less interested, which led me to realize the
need for students to develop their creative and researching resources on
the Internet.
Finally, based on my assessments and outcomes, I decided to help the
students with their weaknesses, and I decided, looking at the students'
ideas, to give the students opportunities where they can practice writing
and preparation which will help them to develop mentally and
scientifically and will later facilitate their higher education.
I repeated to the students the same process they had made earlier so that
they could go back and see what had changed after the discussion we
had and what they understood.
I agreed with the students to practice and continue to do so until the
students are successful towards this topic.
