IMPORTANT
NOTES CONCERNING THE ALARM SYSTEM
Where climatic control is used in livestock buildings, breakdowns, malfunctions or faulty settings may
cause substantial damage and financial losses. It is therefore most important to install a separate,
independent alarm system, which monitors the house concurrently with the climate computer.
According to EU-directive No. 91/629/EØF and 91/630/EØF an alarm system must be installed in any
house that is mechanically ventilated.
Please note that the product liability clause of Big Dutchman’s general terms and conditions of sale
and delivery specify that an alarm system must be installed.

In case of misoperation or improper use, ventilation systems can result in production loss
or cause loss of lives among animals.
Big Dutchman recommend that ventilation systems should be mounted, operated and
serviced only by trained staff and that a separate emergency opening unit and an alarm
system be installed as well as maintained and tested at regular intervals, according to Big
Dutchman’s terms and conditions of sale and delivery.

Viper Climate and Production Computer

Cable Charts and Wiring Diagrams 7

1 INTRODUCTION
This document includes a collection of cable charts and wiring diagrams, which are to be used when
installing a Viper Climate and Production computer in any house. The document may therefore
contain sections that are not relevant to the specific house. In case of doubt, contact Big Dutchman
Service or your dealer.
The connection terminals in Viper Climate and Production computer are universal so that various
components can be connected to the individual terminals.
The connection may differ from the showed connection depending on which components are to be
connected. Therefore, the diagrams in this document must be considered examples.
The Viper Climate and Production computer installation menu (Technical/Setup/ Installation)
indicates precisely to which terminals a component must be connected. When the wiring diagrams
read, “See the setup menu Show installation”, it refers to the indications of the computer. See
also Technical Manual.
If a Big Dutchman wiring box has not been bought, it can be replaced by a locally manufactured
wiring box.
The installation must be made by an authorized electrician according to the current national
regulations and EU regulations.

3.9 Connection of Equal Pressure System

We distinguish between two types of equal pressure systems:
1) MultiStep® air outlet: The swivel shutters are controlled by the MultiStep® principle and open
by turns
2) Stepless air outlets: The swivel shutters are mechanically connected and open equally much

5.1.4 Connection of Silo Weighing Module with max. 1 m CAN

Cable
The silo weighing module has two inputs and each input can be connected with up to eight load
cells/weight bars, e.g. WB1600 or WB6000.
1) Check that the silo is placed max. 30 m from the climate computer. If the distance is longer,
use the installation guide on next page: (200 m CAN cable)
2) Mount a small watertight junction box next to the silo so that all load cell cables can reach it.
(The junction box is not included in the delivery)
3) Mount the silo weighing module next to the climate computer
4) Connect the silo load cell cables in parallel in the junction box
5) Connect the load cell cable shields mutually in the junction box with short connections (max.
20 mm)
6) Connect the junction box with the silo weighing module with max. 30 m shielded four-wire
load cell cable
7) Attach the silo weighing module by means of max. 1 m four-wire shielded cable to the four-
poled terminal strip on the I/O-module or the main module in the climate computer
8) Connect the cable shield under the toggle in the silo weighing module and on the main module
(will not be on the main module until the end of 2005)

200 m CAN cable
The silo weighing module has two inputs and each input can be connected with up to eight load
cells/weight bars, e.g. WB1600 or WB6000.
1) Check that the silo is placed more than. 30 m from the climate computer. If the distance is
shorter, use the installation guide on the previous page: (1 m CAN cable)
2) Mount a small watertight junction box next to the silo so that all load cell cables can reach it.
(The junction box is not included in the delivery)
3) Mount the silo weighing module max. 30 m from the junction box
4) Connect the silo load cell cables in parallel in the junction box
5) Connect the load cell cable shields mutually in the junction box with short connections (max.
20 mm)
6) Connect the junction box with the silo weighing module with max. 30 m shielded four-wire
load cell cable
7) Mount the manufacturer-supplied data network module on the main module. Fasten the screw
firmly and connect the flat cable
8) Attach the silo weighing module by means of max. 200 m two-wire twisted pair with double
shield (Cat. 5 cable twisted pair) to the data network module in the climate computer. Always
use two wires from the same twisted pair to CAN HI and LO. Do not use two wires from
different pairs).
9) Connect the cable shield under the toggle in the silo weighing module and on the data network
module
10) Connect 230/240 V mains voltage to the power module in the silo weighing module
