1. Introduction

ORGANIZATION FOR POOR ECONOMICAL AND NEEDS (OPEN), Secunderabad is a voluntary


organization registered under Societies Registration Act XXI Of 1860 vide Registration No. 57/1993.
We are conducting Medical / Health Camps, Awareness Campaigns on different Health Topics in
Urban and Rural areas Hyderabad.

The mission of OPEN is to implement the Prevention, Control and Health Care delivery of Diabetes
and Hypertension in Telangana. OPEN currently partnering with active Medical Professionals across
various hospitals, and are partnered with many NGOs across the city.

Our Goal is to make "A Healthy Society is a Productive Society". This project aims to implement a
diabetes prevention program targeting the population of Urban Slums in Greater Hyderabad
Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area. Thus, a common man’s life is intended to make better and not
bitter.

2. Overvie w of Health Related projects


Health has been one of the key focus areas at OPEN. We have a team dedicated to working on the
OPEN DIA-Care Community Clinics – under this program, we will conduct Free Diabetes
Awareness/Detection/Screening Camps/Medical Checkups/Medicine Distribution/Follow-up treatments
on monthly basis for the general public.

3. Broad objectives of the OPEN DIA-Care Community Clinics

The purpose of the camp is to create awareness on the importance of early diabetes detection and
timely screening. The objective of this program is providing effective promotion, prevention and control
strategies to provide for an integrated action plan for Diabetes and Hypertension.

The program activities have been grouped into the following three main components:

1). Health Promotion for general population.


2). Disease Prevention for the high risk.
3). Assessment of Prevalence of risk factors.

This program will be jointly owned by the Sponsoring Company, OPEN and the Community. All three
entities will work hand in hand for the basic objective of improving the health of the general public.
Once the program is approved, the area of operation will be selected in consultation with the
Sponsoring Company. A team consisting of a representative from the sponsoring company, one

coordinator from OPEN and a contact person at the Community would be constituted for
implementation of the program effectively.

The whole program is broadly divided into below phases as follows:

 Planning
 Arranging the Medical Professionals
 Pre camp Activities
 Medical Camp
 Post Camp Activities
 Referrals
 Basic Referrals
 Complicated Referrals

Project Locations: Urban Slums in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area.

4. Funding Needs

Based on the number of camps in a month in the community, a specific budget will have to be worked
out. However, based on the past experience, following is given as an indicative budget.

Assuming a target of 600 people in a community, the budget per camp would be as follows:

We would conduct every alternate month ie:- 6 camps in a year, bringing the total cost to Rs 3, 60,
000/-

How You Can Contribute to This Project:

The costs of the project basically consist of two parts. One is the cost for the Medicines, Equipments,
Consumables and Doctors’ cost. Sponsors can either sponsor for the Medicines, Equipments, and
Consumables or as whole Camp Cost. Your contribution at this point in time would be truly appreciated.

5. Program evaluation

An evaluation plan will be made to assess the effectiveness of the program upon its conclusion. The
evaluation plan is in the Appendix 1 below:

 What was the number of diabetic patients under the program?
 What was the number of Hypertension patients under the program?
 Has the Awareness Program brought about any change in the level of awareness of health in
patients?
 Would the community want the program to continue in the coming years - Yes / No? If not,
