MONTALBAN, KHAREN - CON1- MIDTERM EXAM. (20pts each)

You are playing a game of doubles. You started the game serving. The score is at 12-9, in favour of you.
From your field of vision, where on the court will you serve from and to? Explain your answer

•12 is an even number therefore, service will be coming from the right (house) to the left.

In playing badminton there are certain rules when it comes to scoring and serving at the correct side of
the court. In the situation mentioned the current score is 12-9 and is favour me so that means that the
score of me and my partner is 12 since it is and even number the rule is that when the score is even the
server is to serve at the right side of the court to the left side of the other house.

You are set up for a nice smash opportunity. As you put all your energy into it, you watch as it flies down
across your opponent’s court. The shuttle looks like it has gone out, but a fraction of the head has
touched the line. Afterward, the shuttle bounces completely clear of the court. Is this considered in or
out? Explain your answer briefly.

•When the shuttlecock falls on the line, it should be considered IN.This is how it works: When
the shuttlecock falls, the head of the shuttlecock will touch the ground first. If the head of the
shuttlecock touches the line, it is considered inside. Even if only a fraction touched the line as
long as it the touched the line then it is considered as an in. The boundary lines don't end until
the edge of the line stops. If any part of the shuttle touches the line, it will be called "in".
Suppose you are playing on an indoor court, just rallying with a partner. You get the shuttle popped up
to you high in the air. When you go to return it, it soars high, hits the roof, and lands on your partners’
side. In a real badminton game, would this play be legal? Support your answer.

•No, it would be illegal because hitting rood in the real game would mean would be like hitting the
outside boundaries of the court so this means that the play would be called out.

You are playing another person in a singles match. He sets you up, and you start to smash from mid-
court. The shuttle goes through his court, bounces off him, and lands outside the boundaries. Is the play
called in or out? Explain your answer briefly.

•It is still counted as an in this is because Hitting the shuttle with your body is just like hitting it with the
racket (save the distance). If he tries to return it, you can just let it drop and get a point, since double
hits aren't allowed.

If it is unclear if a birdie landed in or out, or something rolls on the court during the game, how should
you handle this situation? Explain your answer briefly.

The best thing to do is to Call a let and have the team re-serve. When a let occurs, the rally stops and is
replayed, without changing the score or serving positions. Here are the most common causes of a let in
club badminton: like the instance mentioned No one is sure whether the shuttle landed in or out or maybe During
the rally, a shuttle from another court was hit onto your court. So after a let and reviewing the team should do the
serve again
You are playing another game of singles. Your opponent recovers a smash by popping it up high in the
air, but close to the net. As you go to smash it down his throat, your racket accidentally hits the net.
What play is called? Explain your answer briefly.

The play id called as Pretty straight forward – since you are not allowed to hit the net. If you do, the play
will be stopped you will lose the serve. The violator would then a lose point from unable to serve.
