COMPANY
Domino’s Pizza is the second largest franchised pizza chain in the America. Two brothers, Tom
and James Monaghan, started it with borrowed equity in the sixties and bought a small Michigan
Pizzeria called Dominick's, which was run by them until James traded his share for a second hand car.
After that, Tom became the sole owner of the business and revitalized the image by changing the name
Tom Monaghan, founder of Domino’s, said that in doing work, one must have fun. “The play’s
the thing.” became his mantra that helped him focus when he was still working in a pizza store and that
“play”—the rush of orders and handling pizza—was the only important thing.
The Domino process is the technology of food production brought to a highly refined form. Each
of their store is like an assembly plant where pizzas are constructed, assembled, built and produced
while keeping a systematic and tight control of the operation. The pie is passed on from a person to
another along an assembly line to add ingredients finishing it in 12 minutes leaving 18 minutes for the
delivery.
Domino’s pizza wanted to expand their business however, competing with strong competitors
like Pizza Hut posed as a challenge to them. Therefore, they focused on the home-delivery niche, which
By the late seventies there were over 200 franchise pizza businesses in the States and Domino’s
Pizza was ready to go International. In 1983, Domino’s Pizza opened one thousandth store. However,
only in the year 2011 was the first original Domino's Pizza Branch here in the Philippines opened in
Marvin Plaza, Pasong Tamo, Makati City with. Tong Su Hong as the President and CEO. (Flores, 2014)
Domino’s has also gained the reputation of being a “tech company that sells pizza.” Domino’s
Pizza CEO Patrick Doyle has also stated that their hot spot initiative was a “game changer.” They started
to deliver to customers using hot spots for their convenience especially when they are in a location
They were ahead of other companies on thinking that offering products to the market was not the
only purpose of fast food rather it is anchored on the improvement of their experience and journey
In the Philippines, technology and innovations were widely supported by Filipinos that 58
percent of the population have access on the internet so it was natural for Domino’s to think that the
country has the criteria to become a breakthrough market. In 2009, they offered a partnership with
Goldilocks which at that time was the number one bakeshop in the country who has already established
numerous manufacturing facilities in the country making it easier for them to supply Domino’s
particularly its high quality dough which made them famous ever since.
The Domino’s Philippines delivery system has likewise been fine-tuned by the latest technology
and its “store-to-door” operation is based on precise metrics supported by the most up to date mapping
technology. Its Pizza Tracker, a feature in their website, allows their customer to experience and fully
interact with the ordering process showing them the real-time status of their pizza. In the case of the in-
store customers, Domino’s has also provided a tracker experience through its wide-open pizza theater
Mastering the home-delivery process, Domino’s limit their delivery within a certain radius to
make sure that the pizzas are still hot when delivered. With this being stated, they are striving harder to
make their presence felt in other parts of the region by opening branches even though some pizza parlors
