WALK-IN- INTERVIEW for Medical Doctors

National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, Earth System Science Organization - under
Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India is the nodal institute for coordinating the
Indian Antarctic Programme. NCPOR calls for Medical Doctors on contract basis for its
research bases (Bharati-Larsemann Hills and Maitri, Schirmacher Oasis) at Antarctica. The
contract period is between 2019 and 2021 for the 39-Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica
as per the details given below:

Qualifications:
1. M.B.B.S from recognized Indian university with two years clinical experience post
award of MBBS degree.
2. Preference will be given to the candidates having Post Graduate qualification
(MD/MS/DNB) from a recognized University

Terms of Employment: The contract wages for the selected candidates will be as
follows:

3. Contract wages of Rs. 1,60,615/-per month for candidates holding MBBS Degree
(with two years experience) and Rs.1,87,384/- per month for candidates holding
Post-Graduate qualification for the entire duration of contract.

4. The above medical officers as member of the team will be entitled for free
boarding & lodging onboard ship and at Antarctica along with polar clothing. The
medical officers are currently entitled for Special Hardship Allowance (HDA) of
Rs. 1500/- per day during the summer season and Rs.2000/- per day during the
winter season for the actual duration of stay in Antarctica. HDA rates are
subjected to revision in accordance with Government of India order.
Summer season: 01-December-2019 to 29-February-2020.
Winter season: 01-March-2020 to 30-November-2020.

5. *The contract period will be for around 14 months starting from


October/November, 2019 depending upon the need and suitability of the
candidates.

6. Candidates are advised to bring along a copy of their Personal Passport (if any)
and two copies of recently clicked Passport size photographs with white
background.
7. The selected medical officers will participate in the expedition as team members
and will have to perform all the routine duties and jobs related to expedition as
assigned by the leader of expedition on regular basis. Applicant has to provide an
undertaking along with his application that the candidate is medically and
psychologically fit to serve in Antarctica for summer and winter periods and
volunteer him/her self for the expedition.

8. The applicant must bring a medical fitness certificate (only from a Government
Hospital endorsed by the Govt. Medical Officer) for appearing in the walk-in-
interview.

9. The registration form (AL-1208) may be downloaded from NCPOR website


(http://www.ncaor.gov.in/antarcticas/display/319-participation-forms). The
duly filled form along with self-attested copies of the qualifying certificates
(including MBBS, MD/MS/DNB, Experience post MBBS) should be submitted at
the time of interview. Candidates without original certificates/documents will be
deemed non-eligible. Ex-Servicemen attending the interview are advised to bring
their Identity Card and Discharge Book. An application format is attached at the
end which needs to be filled and submitted at the time of verification.

10. Interested personnel should register by email (Antarctic-sci@ncaor.gov.in;


insea2008@gmail.com) for the walk-in-interview latest by 25-June-2019 by
1600 hrs addressed to Scientist-In-Charge, Antarctic Science, NCPOR, Goa.
Register by sending a duly filled format attached and also AL-1208 form
along with the email.

11. On interview day: Reporting time at NCPOR is 08:15 hrs. The last entry time
at NCPOR gate is 09:45 hrs, post this no candidate will be entertained.
Please see that you are registered by 25-June-2019.

12. No TA/DA will be paid to applicants.

13. The short listed candidates after the interview will be examined by a medical
board at AIIMS, or any other medical board duly authorized by NCPOR (if
required). The short listed candidates have to then proceed for Pre-Antarctic
Snow Ice Acclimatization training at ITBP, Auli (near Joshimath, Garhwal,
Himalayas) for about 15 days. The dates will be intimated to the candidates later.

14. On final selection, the candidates will be required to sign a contract with NCPOR.
