Why this programme L

WORK INTEGRATED LEARNING

University West is Sweden’s leading university when it comes to work-integrated learning (WIL).
The university was tasked with the development of WIL by the Swedish government 15+ years ago
and continues to lead the field today.
WIL allows you to put your knowledge and skills into practice within real-world contexts, including
carrying out practical tasks, conducting lab work and completing projects most often in close
cooperation with industry. The coursework offers a focus on applications for industry and is created
through collaboration between industry and researchers. Your studies will have an emphasis on
problem-based learning for industry.

ACCESS TO PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY CENTRE

As a Robotics and Automation student you will have access to our Production Technology Centre L
(PTC) during your studies. PTC is one of the largest and newest manufacturing laboratories in
Sweden and is home to University West’s research area Production Technology West (PTW).

12/28/2020 University West - Master in Robotics and Automation (on campus, 2 years)

At PTW we conduct research in flexible industrial automation in conjunction with industry. There
are many companies linked to our research environment. As a student, you will have the opportunity
not only to be part of cutting-edge research, you will also come into contact with future employers.

INTIMATE AND INTERNATIONAL

University West offers an intimate environment without the usual barriers between academic staff
and students. Here, your professors are easily accessible to answer questions, hold discussions and
provide individual feedback. The teacher-to-student ratio is higher than at most other comparable
programmes at other universities.
Students from around the globe come together in your programme to create a unique and
international environment. The programme also offers opportunities for international exposure in
the form of thesis work abroad at one of our partner universities or industries outside of Sweden.
The programme is fully taught in English and you will study with international and Swedish
students. This will enhance both your cultural experience and English language proficiency.

A SOLID JOB MARKET

Last but not least, the job market for graduates of this programme is extremely good. You benefit
both from the quality of your programme here at University West and the fact that Sweden is
known as one of the most innovative countries in the world – and is a leader in the field of
automation. A Master’s Degree in Robotics and Automation will open doors to further studies and
research or a career in industry, both in Sweden and abroad.

About the programme L

L
WE LIVE IN THE ERA OF ROBOTS
There is an ongoing digitisation all around the world, and this has brought about an explosive
growth in the use of robots and automation solutions. This development implicates not only

industry but entire cultures.

What we are witnessing is the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0). We not only have smart
robots, but units with sensors and inbuilt systems that are connected to networks (Internet of
Things, IoT). These technologies, together with advanced simulation (digital twins) and artificial
intelligence (AI), form the foundation for smart factories.
The courses that make up the programme offer you in-depth knowledge of smart factories and
prepare you well for contributing to their development. You learn design and programming of robots
and automation systems. The entire programme has been built through the collaboration of
industry and researchers at University West.
Please note that this is a full-time programme. We recommend students not to combine their
studies with a job.
