The proponents for this project will be the Group I of BSEd IV-A:

This project will be conducted in Aklan State University – College of Industrial

Technology, Kalibo, Aklan.

IV. Project Description

The growing waste from plastic water bottles is now a problem around the world, a
report of the news site British Broadcasting Company (BBC) said (2012, GMA News Online). In
order to lessen this growing issue, the proponents came up with an idea of recycling these
wastes and turn it into something functional and profitable.
The general objective of the project is to help the community economize this “trash”
and transform it into something innovative. It can also showcase the creativity and
resourcefulness of those who will make this project.
The target partners for this project are the people of the school and local community.
This may also arouse the interest of interior designers and hotel managers. Furthermore, this
project also aims to be of export quality.
The recycled stool is mainly composed of 1.5 L plastic bottles that can be used as a
home interior furniture or for business purposes. This project comes from both recyclable
(plastic bottles) and store-bought materials like synthetic foam and adhesive tapes, etc.

V. Source of Capital

The total estimated project cost for a single stool is P 117.00 since most of the
materials used are recycled and provided by the group members. For a large scale business
venture, it is estimated that for 1,800 units of stool produced in a one year, the cost of
operation will be P 354,044.00. The start-up capital will be P 730,000.00 sourced equally from
each proponent. The proponents will utilize their personal savings.

VI. Rationale

Plastic bottles were first used commercially in 1875 but remained relatively
expensive until the early 1960s when high-density polyethylene was introduced. They quickly
became popular with both manufacturers and customers due to their lightweight nature and
relatively low production and transportation costs compared with glass bottles (2016,
Wikipedia).

The Philippines has been listed the third highest producer of plastic wastes thrown
into the ocean after China and Indonesia. “Almost 15 years of poor implementation of the
Ecological Solid Waste Management Act (RA 9003) and unheeded calls for a national ban on
the undoubtedly problematic and persistent plastic bags apparently helped a lot in putting
the country at 3rd place in the study’s embarrassing list,” Aileen Lucero said, national
coordinator of the EcoWaste Coalition (Rhodina Villanueva, 2015).

Since this dilemma directly impacts individual life, it is the collective responsibility of
the global community to be proactive and pre-emptive in protecting the environment from
any and all abuses against the eco-system. This is a wake-up call for the proponents to
conduct the project on recycling plastic bottles and make it into something functional and
profitable.

VII. Objectives

 General Objectives:

This project on plastic bottles stool aims to:

 help the community economize plastic bottles;
 minimize waste that needs to be disposed;
 promote environmental awareness; and
 innovate plastic materials to a useful, productive, and income generating product.
Specifically, it aims to:
 produce a cheap alternative home/hotel interior furniture; and
 augment income.

VIII. Methodology

A. Organization of Management and Group Members

The group for this project arose from the scheme used in the Special Topics class.
After grouping, the members will select a leader that will serve as their manager who will
oversee the production and implementation of the proposed project. Then, the leader
will assign the members their specific duties and responsibilities.

B. Preparation of Materials
The collected empty plastic bottles will be sorted by size and shape regardless of
color. Then the labels will be removed and it will be washed by tap water and air dried.

C. Procedure

Step 1
Prepare the materials and tools needed.
 12 pcs. Empty Plastic Bottles with caps (same size and shape)
 1 pc. Adhesive Tape (2 inches)
 1 pc. (122x39 cm) Ordinary Plywood, sawed in half
 1/6 sheet thin Foam
 ½ meter upholster leather or any thick cloth (desired color)
 Staple wires
 8 pcs. Screws
 screw driver
 Gun tacker
 Hand saw

Step 2
Sort the plastic bottles, remove the labels, wash and dry them.

Step 3
Arrange bottles evenly in an upright position and using an adhesive tape, securely
fasten the bottles. Make sure that the bottles does not move in any way.

Step 4
Measure the correct dimension of the plywood and accurately cut the measurement.

Step 5
Attach one plywood on top and using screws attach it to the bottle. Same is done at
the bottom.

Step 6
Measure the length of the thin foam and with a gun tucker, wrap it to the assembled
recycled plastic stool.

Step 7

 Cover the stool that will be manufactured by the desired thick cloth. See to it that it is
free from unnecessary creases.
