Agenda
By the end of this training
session, you should:
• Understand how to interpret
a Level 1/2 Firsts (NQF) unit
specification
• Have looked at a sample of
learner assessment evidence
to verify whether the
assessment decision can be
supported
L1/2 Firsts (NQF)
Unit interpretation

L1/2 Firsts (NQF)
Unit 3, Learning aim A
Assessment criteria and Assessment guidance

6
L1/2 Firsts (NQF)
Unit 3, Learning aim A - ‘What needs to be learnt’

7
L1/2 Firsts (NQF)
Sample

The centre has used the AAB for Learning aim A.

The Assessor awarded 2A.P1, 2A.P2, 2A.M1 and 2A.M2.

Can the assessment decision be supported or not? Why?

If no, what should the assessment decision be? Why?

8
L1/2 Firsts (NQF)
Sample

• The learner has explained how accident and emergency

procedures are used in the school workshop (an engineering
workplace), and in so doing has covered the appropriate ‘What
needs to be learnt’ content, as scoped in Topic A.1.

• The learner has made no attempt to refer to the importance of

any of the procedures.

9
L1/2 Firsts (NQF)
Sample

• In addition, the learner has explained (in some detail) the roles
and responsibilities of self and others under the legislation,
policies and procedures required for an engineering workplace
(see Topic A.2 in the ‘What needs to be learnt’ section of the
unit specification).

• Nonetheless, although the learner evidence for this criterion is

extensive (which is unnecessary), statements of fact are
provided with no content relating to why the given roles and
responsibilities are important/necessary, meaning that the
learner has not provided the necessary assessment evidence
for 2A.D1.

10
L1/2 Firsts (NQF)
Sample

• Consequently, the learner has not met the assessment

requirements of 2A.M1 and therefore this criterion should not
have been awarded by the Assessor for this assignment.

• The overall assessment decision is therefore inaccurate and

cannot be supported.

You have now completed the
BTEC L1/2 Firsts (NQF) module.
