The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

I will never forget the day that I tricked my sister into thinking that she didn’t make it

into UNC-Chapel Hill when she made me read her acceptance letter, I was just as excited as her!

My sister is the reason that I am interested in UNC, from all the times that I have stayed with her

over the weekends in her dorm. I felt almost like a college student and I loved the environment

and the overall campus of UNC. Another reason why I am interested in UNC is because of their

health care field, and I am interested in health care and psychology although I don’t know what I

would want to major in. I am still very open to pursuing other majors and careers.

One of the big reasons as to why I would like to attend UNC is because of their ranking.

For example, The University of North Carolina—Chapel Hill's ranking in the 2021 edition of

Best Colleges is National Universities, #28 (“How Does University of North Carolina--Chapel

Hill Rank Among America's Best Colleges?”). The rankings are really important to me because

it lets me know that I am going to a college that is held at high prestige and can give me better

opportunities and academic advantages compared to other universities and colleges. I want to go

to a school where I know that I can have an education that fully supports me and my major.

A reason as to why I actually have an advantage as to attending UNC is because of its

tuition amount. For example, Residents of North Carolina pay an annual total price of $23,811 to

attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a full-time basis. This fee is comprised

of $7,019 for tuition, $11,190 room and board, $948 for books and supplies and $1,968 for other

fees. Out of state residents are charged a total cost of $49,994 (“UNC Requirements for

Admission”). This is really great for me because the cost of being a student in the state is a lot

lower than being a student out of state. There are also lots of scholarships that are available if I

need them. Since the school is in-state that also means that I am really close to family and

friends, around only 40 minutes away.

In order to get into UNC-Chapel Hill, you absolutely need to have outstanding grades and

truly a really high GPA. For example, With a GPA of 4.39, UNC requires you to be at the top of

your class. You'll need nearly straight A's in all your classes to compete with other applicants.

Furthermore, you should be taking hard classes - AP or IB courses - to show that college-level

academics is a breeze (“The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - Net Price, Tuition,

Cost to Attend, Financial Aid and Student Loans”). I am really determined to try my hardest to

get the best grades that I possibly can in my four years of high school. I know that I can be

capable of getting mostly all As by the time I graduate and I really hope that that is exactly what

I do.

UNC will definitely benefit me with whatever career that I am pursuing. Right now I am

super interested in psychology and health care, but I still don’t know what exactly I would like to

major in, thankfully I have time. UNC is ranked number 2 across the nation for its medical

school which is amazing! This means that it could for sure benefit me with the level of learning

that I do and the number of careers and jobs that it can open up for me. In conclusion, I would be

accomplishing one of my biggest goals in my life if I were to attend UNC-Chapel Hill, and I’m

so excited to start working hard!
