Countries all over the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day every year on 14 June.
It was first observed in 2004.
The idea behind the event is to raise awareness for the need of blood, blood products,
and need for safe blood.
Moreover, it is an act of thanking the blood donors who, voluntary comes out and
donate blood to those in need.
It is also one of eight official global public health campaigns initiated by the World
Health Organization, along with World Health Day, World Tuberculosis Day, World
Immunization Week, World No Tobacco Day, World Malaria Day, World Aids Day and
World Hepatitis Day.
World Refugee Day

The World Refugee Day is observed on June 20 every year. It was first recognized by
the United Nations (UN).
This event marks the courage, strength and determination of all the men, women and
children who were forced to flee from their homeland under threat of conflict and violence.
People honour the courage of millions of refugees across the world on this day.
Organizations such as Amnesty International and the International Rescue Committee (IRC)
get involved actively in the various activities of the day.
International Day of Yoga

The idea of International Day of Yoga was first observed by the Prime Minister, Mr.
Narendra Modi during his speech at the UNGA, on 27 September 2014.
He stated,
"Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and
body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a
holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise, but to discover the sense
of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating
consciousness, it can help in well being. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga
Day."

The day, which is also referred to as Yoga Day commonly, is celebrated on June 21
since its inception in 2015.
The day is celebrated to mark the importance of physical, mental and spiritual
practice, which was first originally practiced in India.
The United Nations suggested the date of 21 June, as it is the longest day of the year
in the Northern Hemisphere and carries special significance in many parts of the world.
It was considered unanimously by the UNGA (United Nations General Assembly).
International Day Against Drug Abuse and
Illicit Trafficking

The international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking is observed every year
on June 26, since its inception in 1989.
The idea is to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international
society free of drug abuse.
During the international conference on drug abuse and illicit trafficking, which was
held in Vienna during 17-26 June 1987, two important texts i.e. Comprehensive
multidisciplinary outline of future activities in Drug Abuse Control and Declaration of the
International Conference on drug abuse and illicit trafficking was observed.
The Conference recommended that there should be an annual day to mark the
importance of the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
The final date of June 26 was taken into consideration and the draft was prepared and final
resolution.
World Population day

seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. The event was established by the
Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989.
World Nature Conservation
