INTRODUCTION
A Business Tool for Small Offices that Mean Business
Productive black & white
printing, copying, faxing, and
scanning capabilities are a
basic office necessity. Users
need simple, reliable MFP
solutions to assist in their
multi-tasking work days.

To run a business at
maximum efficiency takes
solutions that can stand up
to the daily punishment of
multiple users producing hundreds or thousands of pages each month. The goal is to execute daily business
tasks as quickly, easily, and affordably as possible. For many, that means stepping up from entry-level inkjet
MFP technology or consolidating a number of single function devices. Yes, businesses are investing in office
technology again as the economy kicks into high gear…but still with a close eye on costs as decision-makers
take to heart the lessons learned of the global recession. So black & white multifunction products make a lot of
sense for small offices and corporate workgroups seeking to minimize expenses without sacrificing
productivity.

The new Savin SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF are here to answer the call for productive, versatile, easy to use,
multifunction systems with a low total cost of ownership. Featuring Savin's proven All-In-One print cartridge
technology these compact desktop MFPs offer all the essential tools to meet every user's business
communication and black & white output needs in a single robust package.

Building upon past success, Savin intends to increase its presence in this market by continually updating and
improving the product line to keep pace with other facets of office equipment and computing technology.
Savin's first native AIO-based 30-ppm monochrome laser desktop MFP, the SP 3400SF Series, was a big seller
and helped open the doors to small offices and large fleet/major account opportunities alike. In the new SP
3500SF/SP 3510SF, Savin is providing the updated tools and system enhancements that will enable you to
continue to meet customer demand for affordable, reliable, and state-of-the-art multifunction solutions.

The SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF are both 30-ppm general office monochrome laser MFPs. Designed by Savin
especially to meet the need for affordable, decentralized workgroups and/or personal laser printing, copying,
faxing, and scanning, the Savin SP 3500SF offers a 35-sheet ADF and manual duplexing; the Savin SP
3510SF is equipped with a higher capacity 50-sheet ARDF to process 1- or 2-sided originals in conjunction
with its automatic duplexing capability. Both are excellent choices for corporate workgroups, small businesses,
home offices, and sole professionals with single-sided and/or double-sided monochrome output needs up to
8.5" x 14".

3
Featuring Savin's native All-In-One print cartridge technology and a
powerful 350 MHz CPU, these network-ready models are
multifunction versions of the new Savin SP 3500N and SP 3510DN
Black & White laser printers introduced simultaneously these new
MFPs. In fact, the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF even shares the same AIO
print cartridge supplies and paper handling accessories with its
printer-only cousin so you can place the right mix of single- and
multifunction devices in every account with interchangeable supplies
for identical CPPs, operability, and maintenance.

The SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF are built on the same marking engine and controller platform as the SP
3400SF/SP 3410SF. They retain the rich feature set of their predecessors while making critical improvements
to resolution and supply yields. The control panel has been upgraded to a 4-line liquid crystal display (LCD),
while recommended and maximum monthly volumes have been significantly increased – evidence of these
units' proven reliability and durability. Even pricing has been lowered versus the SP 3400SF/SP 3410SF. The
bottom line is that the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF makes you better prepared to compete for business and win in
the competitive low volume monochrome laser MFP market.

As true business solutions the SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF are ready to meet the demands of small businesses
like medical practices and testing labs, retail stores, restaurants, bank branches, fast food franchises, hotels,
rental car counters, and countless other entities with daily print/copy/scan/fax needs. A robust feature set
includes advanced capabilities like Scan-to-Email/FTP/Folder electronic document distribution, 20 One-touch
and 200 fax Speed Dials, a 1,000-entry LAN Fax address book, an expandable paper supply, and productivity-
enhancing features such as Scan-to-USB, Locked Print, ID Card Copy, and more.

The Savin SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF are also a perfect fit for small
workgroups inside larger corporate entities, in the executive suite, at the front
reception desk, or a "bullpen" type environment where several outside sales
reps or agents share access to a desk, phone and business tools. Either way,
the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is not intended for home or student use. In fact,
this is the machine for users that have outgrown personal desktop MFP
technology with their small media supplies, liquid ink cartridges, and single-
digit output speeds. The Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is the next step for
users who killed their superstore MFP; whose volumes are now counted in the
hundreds or thousands of pages each month, not dozens.

In sum, the Savin SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF are business-class AIO devices for small office environments
that mean business. Compact and affordable, these low volume MFPs are designed to minimize service and
maximize uptime with access to advanced publishing and business communication needs like full color
scanning and TWAIN image capture, Scan-to-USB, Scan-to-Email with LDAP, Internet faxing, and more.

Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF B&W Desktop MFP
Market Trends, Opportunities, & Launch Objectives
Even as US companies emerge from a recessionary market and begin to hire new employees, reinvest in
technology, and grow their businesses, customers haven't forgotten the lessons of the economic downturn.
While the market remains viable – there will always be a need for low volume black & white laser MFPs –
decision-makers will continue to seek more cost effective, productive, and environmentally friendly solutions.
Space, supply- and power-saving MFPs will replace single function printers, scanners and faxes…Color-enabled
systems will be placed only where absolutely needed…User restriction features will limit device access and
reduce volumes…Forced printing rules like duplexing and toner saving will save paper and
supplies…employees will be encouraged to take advantage of Scan-to capabilities for cost-free document
distribution rather than faxing with its inherent per-call charges.

The new Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF delivers on all these capabilities and more while offering a compact
design and recyclable All-In-One print cartridge technology. Combined with their powerful copy/print/scan/fax
feature set, the SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF are well positioned to grab a healthy piece of the action in the 21
– 30-ppm segment of the US monochrome laser MFP market.

IDC market research forecasts believe the tide has turned and sales of Segment 2 monochrome MFPs in the
US will post positive gains each year through 2016. Placements will approach 1,000,000 units this year, and
are expected to exceed that milestone every year for the forecast period.

The perennial leaders in this segment including Hewlett-Packard, Brother, Lexmark, and Samsung aren't going
away. In fact, the competition will only get tougher as companies like Savin continue to improve our offerings
and take a larger bite out of the market share pie.

The bottom line is that black & white desktop laser MFPs are a business staple, and it is expected that
customers will continue to upgrade and replace existing technology as necessary for the foreseeable future.
The healthy growth in the Segment 2 monochrome laser MFP market – fueled in part by a number of new
product introductions featuring lower running costs and advanced feature sets enticing customers to trade in
or trade up – means there literally will be millions of opportunities to place Savin SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF
black & white desktop laser MFPs over the next 36 months.

Launch Goals & Objectives
As versatile, affordable, and easy to use multifunction products the
new Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF will be a cornerstone of your
Managed Document Strategy (MDS) approach to offer a solution for
every level of need. They will help you capitalize on recurring
upgrade business as well as new sales opportunities. The SP
3500SF/SP 3510SF addresses many of the concerns voiced by
your customers including higher resolution output, a more
informative control panel, improved network management
capabilities, increased supply yields, higher volume support, and
more competitive pricing. These enhancements will help the SP
3500SF/SP 3510SF achieve Savin's primary objective of growing
our Segment 2 (21 – 30-ppm) market share at the expense of
Hewlett Packard, Lexmark, Brother, Samsung and other major
brands competing for business in the lucrative low volume black &
white MFP market space. Other goals behind the launch of the SP
3500SF/SP 3510SF are to:

Ø Provide an upgrade path for owners of slower Segment 1 (11 – 20-ppm) Savin devices like the SP
1200SF, the older SP 3200SF, as well as older SP 3400SF/SP 3410SF units approaching end of life.

Ø Allow you to present a Savin brand product to replace competitive low volume MFPs and consolidate
populations of single-function printers, faxes, copiers, and scanners.

Ø Enable you to go after large government bid and major account business opportunities with a low-
priced, easy to use AIO solution – perfect for fleets.

Ø Seed your territory with new accounts by providing an affordable, low risk means to try Savin
technology and create brand loyalty at an early stage.

Ø Increase overall revenues through the ongoing sale of genuine Savin All-In-One print cartridge
supplies.

without inflating prices by adding features deemed unnecessary by the target customer.

Plus, with two choices of All-In-One print cartridges available the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF tackles the critical
issue of running cost by offering Standard and High Yield AIO supplies. The new High Yield AIO delivers
increased yields to make the system more affordable to budget-minded customers while still delivering
competitive CPP factors and a low total cost of ownership.

The combination of lower pricing, speed, ease of use, and new performance enhancements add up to a
professional solution that meets the need for productive, basic monochrome laser output and scanning
without all the bells and whistles from your cost-conscious, non-security-focused customers. Should your
investigation into customer applications reveal the need for data security, consider stepping up to products
such as the Savin SP 5200 Series 8.5" x 14/A4 MFPs, or the MP 2352/2852/3352 11" x 17"/A3 MFPs with

Positioning Versatility
As multifunction products featuring All-In-One print cartridge technology, the SP 3500SF
and SP 3510SF are extremely versatile solutions. As a result, you twist positioning to meet
the most pressing needs of each customer. In your discussions with decision-makers you
should ask questions that identify pain points, and then tie those needs back to SP
3500SF/SP 3510SF capabilities that solve those problems. For example:

You can further tweak SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF positioning to meet the customer’s primary workflow needs by
selecting which function – Copy, Fax, or Scan – will be the default mode presented to walk-up users on the LCD
panel. In this way users can customize the unit to reflect their most common everyday office needs and
workflows. This is done by accessing the Default Mode for Function Priority under Administrative Settings.

9
Individual Model Positioning
The Savin SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF are positioned as low volume monochrome laser MFPs for general
offices and workgroups with black & white output needs and color scanning requirements up to 8.5" x 14".
Customers' applications and environments should not be security-conscious. The SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF
replace the current SP 3400SF and SP 3410SF in the Savin black & white laser MFP product line.

The new 30-ppm manual duplexing Savin SP 3500SF with a 35-sheet ADF is the successor model to
the 30-ppm Savin SP 3400SF.

The new 30-ppm auto duplexing Savin SP 3510SF with a 50-sheet ARDF is the successor model to
the duplex-enabled 30-ppm Savin SP 3410SF.

The SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF are identical in most respects with the exception of standard automatic
duplexing and a 50-sheet ARDF on the SP 3510SF. This difference is also the key to individual model
positioning.

10
Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF B&W Desktop MFP
The Savin SP 3500SF Defined
The SP 3500SF is the base model in the series and Savin's price leader in
Segment 2 with an estimated street price of just $349, a significant reduction
from the SP 3410SF. This monochrome laser MFP provides efficient 30-ppm
output speeds with standard networking, a 35-sheet Automatic Document
Feeder, and manual duplexing. It employs Savin's proven All-In-One print
cartridge technology for simplified maintenance and maximum ease of use.

Designed as a true business solution, the SP 3500SF is built on a 350 MHz CPU
with 128 MB RAM as its standard/maximum memory capacity. This controller
supports output resolutions of 600 x 600 dpi, 1200 x 600 dpi, and true 1200 x
1200 dpi (at 50% speed) for all paper sizes – no memory upgrades are required. The SP 3500SF offers
standard USB 2.0 and 10/100Base-TX Ethernet interfaces for the flexibility to connect to a single PC in peer-
to-peer settings and/or multiple users in networked environments.

In addition to competitive pricing Savin's All-In-One print cartridge technology

delivers economical cost-per-page factors as low as 2.1¢ using the High Yield
AIO. Virtually everything that can wear out or run out is easily replaced in
seconds, making the SP 3500SF a great solution for organizations with remote
branch offices and little access to on-site technical support.

As a network printer the SP 3500SF delivers productive output speeds of up to 30-ppm

to Windows and Mac users with support for PCL 6 and PS3 emulation page description
languages and drivers. [Larger enterprises running UNIX or Citrix-based distributed
computing models can download free utilities that will allow the SP 3500SF to serve in
those environments as well.]

As a digital copier the SP 3500SF can be programmed to reproduce up to 99

sets of 8.5" x 11" pages scanned via the platen glass or stacks of up to 35
Legal-size pages using the Automatic Document Feeder. Scan resolution for
copying is 600 x 600 dpi for originals placed on the platen and 600 x 300 dpi
for documents fed via the ADF. Scan Once/Print Many, 25% - 400% Zoom, ID
Card Copy, and 256-level grayscale support highlight the SP 3500SF's copier
feature set.

As a USB and network scanner the SP 3500SF serves as a full color image capture
and sending station. Maximum TWAIN optical scanning resolution is up to 1200 x
1200 dpi with driver support for up to 19,200 x 19,200 interpolated dpi for saving
scanned images. Users can scan documents at up to 600 x 600 dpi resolution for
Scan-to-Email/Folder/FTP jobs, while a front USB Host port enables Scan-to-USB
functionality for easy conversion of hardcopy to portable digital files. A 100-destination
scanner Address Book enables error-free sending of scanned files.

11
As a Super G3 fax machine the SP 3500SF enables communications
as fast as three seconds per page with people outside the data
network. In addition to 20 One-touch Dials and 200 Speed Dials, the
SP 3500SF offers Internet Fax, LAN Fax with a 1,000-entry fax
Address Book, plus a number of transmission and reception features
including the ability to connect a telephone answering machine to the
system – thereby increasing its value to remote small offices.

For media, the SP 3500SF is equipped with a standard 250-sheet front-

loading, user-adjustable paper tray for sizes up to 8.5" x 14". The standard 50-
sheet Bypass Tray accepts card stock up to 90 lb. Index as well as stacks of
envelopes, a feature critical to many small businesses that do their own direct
mail marketing and/or customer invoicing. Paper supply can be expanded with
one optional 250-sheet Paper Feed Unit that installs directly beneath the
standard tray to double media capacity without increasing footprint.

Walk-up users easily

program the SP 3500SF for
copy, scan, and fax jobs
through its simple control
panel featuring a 4-line
LCD display.

Recommending the SP 3500SF

Given its speed, paper capacity, supply yields, and built in networking, the SP 3500SF is an excellent choice for
budget-conscious single users and small workgroups with up to 29 connected users. This system is rated to
support a maximum duty cycle of up to 35,000 total copy/print/fax impressions per month – a dramatic
increase over predecessor models. For optimal performance, recommend the SP 3500SF with manual
duplexing and its 35-sheet ADF to customers with average volumes between 1,200 – 3,300 total impressions
per month and little need for two-sided printing and data security features.

Applications should be mostly general office documents and daily business correspondence (Microsoft Office
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files), PDFs, web pages, and e-mails on plain paper up to 8.5" x 14".

12
Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF B&W Desktop MFP
The Savin SP 3510SF Defined
With an estimated street price of just $399 the Energy Star-compliant
30-ppm Savin SP 3510SF is the lead model in the pair (shown at left
with the optional 250-sheet PFU).

The SP 3510SF matches all the speed, resolution, and

print/copy/scan/fax specifications of the SP 3500SF, but adds
integrated automatic duplexing and a 50-sheet Automatic Reversing
Document Feeder (ARDF) to its standard feature set.

The SP 3510SF has the same controller/memory/network

specifications as the SP 3500SF, as well as the same 4-line LCD
control panel. It uses the same All-In-One print cartridge supplies for
identical CPP factors, and is rated to support the same monthly
volumes (1,200 – 3,300 pages per month) and workgroup sizes (up to
29 users) when networked.

Recommending the SP 3510SF

Recommend the auto duplexing SP 3510SF with its 50-sheet ARDF
to customers working with stacks of two-sided hardcopy originals,
and to accounts with two-sided monochrome output up to 8.5" x
14" accounting for at least 20% of overall volume.

Here again, data security should not be a customer priority and

applications also should be mostly general office documents and
daily business correspondence (Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint files), PDFs, web pages, and E-mails on plain paper up to
8.5" x 14", but with a higher percentage of two-sided workflows.

13
Recommending the SP 3500SF or the SP 3510SF?
The question of whether the account is a manual duplex SP 3500SF prospect or automatic duplex SP 3510SF
prospect is a function of one- or two-sided input and output requirements.

Duplex Volume
< 20% = SP 3500SF
> 20% = SP 3510SF

A typical rule of thumb is that if duplex pages represents 20% or more of overall volume, recommend the auto
duplexing SP 3510SF.

Security and SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF Positioning

Cost and speed are the two dominant decision criteria at this level of the market. One of the ways in which
Savin can minimize the former and optimize the latter is by streamlining print controller technology. While the
SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF offer a powerful 350 MHz CPU and 128 MB RAM to enable fast file processing and
support efficient output speeds, these devices cannot be equipped with a hard disk drive for data storage
capabilities and do not employ the Savin GW Architecture Controller.

Market research has indicated the typical low volume laser MFP prospect has little need for the many of the
advanced capabilities inherent in the Savin GW Architecture Controller. Therefore many of the data and device
security features found on our faster, higher volume devices built on that platform such as data encryption,
print-on-demand, and user authentication are not supported in the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF.

When you think about the type of environments the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is meant to serve; small
offices/home offices (like the sole professional, freelance consultant, or when equipping a field sales force),
and low volume point-of-need copy/print/scan/fax needs in corporate locations (such as reception areas, the
executive suite, or visitor/temp employee cubicles), or family owned small businesses where employee trust is
not an issue; you can see why features like data encryption and user authentication become extraneous.

So when presenting the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF to customers be sure that you have asked and answered
questions about data security and print-on-demand requirements prior to recommending a solution. While the
SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF does support Locked Print and a User Restriction feature, if the account requires more
advanced security capabilities like user authentication and data encryption you may need to suggest a device
employing the Savin GW Architecture Controller.

Internal Product Positioning
As same-speed replacements for the retiring SP 3400SF and SP 3410SF, the new SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF
will occupy the same space as their predecessor models in Savin's monochrome laser MFP product line. This
graphic depicts Savin’s updated product line for 2012 including both desktop 8.5" x 14"/A4 and
console/copier-based 11" x 17"/A3 systems.

Now with 15 models and versatile configurations and options to choose from you can present a viable laser
MFP solution for monochrome workflows at every critical speed and price point from 23-ppm to 52-ppm. You
can tailor solutions for workgroups with 8.5" x 14"/A4 needs, or meet 11" x 17"/A3 output requirements…with
or without duplexing…with basic collation or advanced in-line finishing options…with or without device access
and data security features…from efficient desktop AIO print cartridge models to departmental systems
featuring long lasting drum and toner engines to deliver on the Savin promise of Managed Document Strategy!

External Positioning
Against the competition Savin anticipates you’ll be competing primarily against 8.5" x 14"
monochrome laser MFPs featuring AIO print cartridge technology from market
leaders Hewlett Packard, Brother, Lexmark, and Samsung, as well as offerings
from Canon, Dell, and Xerox. You may also encounter competition from names
like Konica Minolta, Kyocera Mita, Toshiba, and Oki Data depending upon your
location and the strength of other brands/distribution channels in your territory.

In most cases the Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF will meet or exceed the performance of
competing 21 – 30-ppm monochrome laser MFPs while offering a competitive price and low
total cost of ownership. Please refer to the Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF Competitive Brief
and Matrix for a review of how these new MFPs stack up against several leading competitors.

Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF B&W Desktop MFP
Target Users & Applications
The Savin SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF are targeted at budget-
conscious individuals, small businesses, and corporate workgroups
with general office one- and two-sided printing, copying, faxing, and
scanning applications up to 8.5" x 14".

All workflows requiring hardcopy output should be black & white, but
the SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF are capable of supporting your
customers' full color scanning and electronic document distribution
needs.

A choice of the manual duplexing SP 3500SF with a 35-sheet ADF

(top) and the automatic duplexing SP 3510SF with a 50-sheet ARDF
capable of inverting originals for second-side scanning (bottom) is
offered to match your customer with a unit that best meets their
output needs with function and cost.

Savin has published optimal volume ranges and user populations as

guidelines to maximize performance and customer satisfaction for
both models.

The prospective SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF

customer will not need color output or require
advanced data security features. Applications
are likely to be dominated by the printing,
copying, scanning, and faxing of typical
Windows and Mac "front office" documents
such as schedules, memos, status reports,
daily business correspondence, memos,
emails, press releases, invoices, forms, price
lists, statements, and envelopes like those
pictured here. There's nothing new here.
These users simply want to get their
documents as fast and easily as possible, and
the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF can help them do
just that. Support for Citrix and the Savin UNIX
filter will open up some legacy and host print
opportunities as well.

Productivity-enhancing features like the ID Card Copy
Recommended Volume Range:
accessible via a Shortcut key will be of interest to
specific vertical market customers like 1,200 – 3,300 total impressions/month
hospital/medical lab/doctor offices for two-sided
Maximum Volume Range:
insurance card copying, to tool and car rental
businesses for licenses, and to payday stores for Up to 35,000 total impressions/month
copying checks and other forms of identification. But
Recommended User Population:
mostly the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF will find its way
into general office environments that: Single user (via USB)
1 – 29 users (via network) and walk-up use
Ø Are seeking an upgrade in speed or
functionality over existing equipment.

Ø Want to consolidate multiple laser printers, inkjet printers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines into a
single, space-saving solution.

Ø Are building a COHO network for small groups of users in the field.

Ø Do not require data security, user authentication, or print on demand capabilities.

Ø Are concerned about price but do not want to sacrifice functionality.

Ø Require reliable duplexing (SP 3510SF).

Ø Have monochrome hardcopy printing/copying/faxing needs and require full color scanning capabilities
to share information via the network.

Ø Are shifting to cost-free electronic document distribution and away from faxing, and/or still need to
retain traditional fax capabilities to communicate outside the network.

Ø Have limited time, expertise, or ability to perform complex service tasks, but doe not want the
responsibility of returning the unit to a retailer for repairs.

While extremely versatile and affordable the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF has its limitations and will not be
appropriate for prospects requiring full color output, 11" x 17" throughput capabilities, or those with data and
device security requirements.

The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF can be the central communications hub device in a sole professional's office or a
small business, part of a mix with other Savin color and monochrome devices spread throughout a large
corporate location, or part of a fleet solution supporting field-based sales forces or service technicians working
from home or in small branch offices spread across the country. The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF will be attractive
to users who must stay near their workstations (receptionists, administrative assistants, hospital admissions,
hotel front desks) as well as to major account/government bid buyers who seek easy to use and maintain
systems to deploy across remote franchise/branch/field office networks. These customers want affordable,
dependable products that require little maintenance for remote end-users after installation and the Savin SP
3500SF/SP 3510SF fits the bill!

Control Panel Review
Once the Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is properly connected to a
user’s PC or installed on a local area network for shared use daily print
job programming, device management (adjusting network settings,
populating address books, etc.), network scanning, and PC faxing are
executed by end-users from a connected PC. Walk-up use for hardcopy
TWAIN scanning, Scan-to-Email/FTP/Folder/USB, faxing, and copying is
managed through the user-friendly control panel. The panel offers
simplified operation with primary capabilities accessed by one-touch
buttons and keys grouped together by function for intuitive use.

Two of the biggest enhancements over the previous models' control panel are the addition of a 4-line LCD
display and corresponding mode selection keys as found in many of Savin's higher volume systems, and the
inclusion a function shortcut key (#11) to allow for one-touch access to a frequently used feature like ID Card
Copy, Combine Copy, or Two-sided Copy mode on the SP 3510SF.

The graphic below highlights the primary features of the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF control panel. Both models
are equipped with the same control panel; there are no hard key differences. Any additional modes supported
by the SP 3510SF, like duplexing, are programmed using the LCD panel. Please refer to the proper area of the
Multifunction Review section for details regarding individual features accessed via the control panel.

Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF B&W Desktop MFP
CORE TECHNOLOGIES
The Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF leverages the proven design of its predecessor, the SP 3400SF/SP 3410SF,
yet also adds a number of new and upgraded capabilities to ensure your solutions stay current with the
competition and meet the evolving needs of today's customer.

This section will review the basic technologies that cross multiple areas of system functionality to make the SP
3500SF and SP 3510SF excellent choices for low volume cost-conscious customers with black & white
copy/print/fax/scan workflows up to 8.5" x 14".

The next-generation enhancements incorporated into the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF are covered in detail in the
following section, System Enhancements.

Compact Design with All-In-One Print Cartridge Technology

Designed to place affordable low volume monochrome
laser copying/printing/faxing and color scanning on a
desktop the Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF offers a
compact design with a front-loading paper supply and
user-replaceable All-In-One print cartridge technology.
The device itself occupies less than two square feet of
desk space to keep laser image quality within arm's
reach. This image shows the SP 3510SF equipped with 18.1"
the 50-sheet ARDF. (The SP 3500SF with its 35-sheet
ADF has the same footprint but is about an inch
shorter.) An optional 250-sheet Paper Feed Unit
installs directly beneath the main unit to expand paper
supply to 550 sheets without occupying more desk
space. The front access design also provides for fast, 15.6"
easy access to the AIO print cartridge and paper path 16.5"
in the event of a misfeed.

The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF uses Savin’s proven All-In-One print

cartridge technology to house all the user-replaceable consumables
for the entire system. In addition to contributing to the unit's overall
compact design, the toner, developer, photoconductive drum – just
about everything that can wear out or run out – is easily accessed
by the end-user in seconds simply by opening the front cover. Each
time a cartridge is replaced, it’s like the customer is performing a
system tune-up, complete with refreshed image quality. This will be
attractive to remote offices and small businesses that do not have
much technical expertise on hand or ready access to service. Open
the front cover to expose the All-In-One print cartridge and simply slide in a new one. Tabs on the sides of the
cartridge and corresponding grooves within the unit guide the cartridge into the correct position until it securely
locks into place. These tabs and grooves also prevent insertion of a wrong AIO cartridge into an incompatible
Savin device.

29
Savin has also modified the supply strategy for the SP 3500SF/SP
3510SF. These models will be available with a choice of a low-cost
2,500-page (Standard Yield) All-In-One print cartridge and a new 6,400-page AIO
higher 6,400-page (High Yield) AIO cartridge. The extended yield
will help to minimize downtime and shaves a mil or two off the CPP
factor from the old 5,000-page AIO.

These competitively priced supply items will make it easier for

small business and budget-conscious workgroups to step up to 30- 2,500-page AIO
ppm multifunction productivity. The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF also
ships with a 1,500-page starter AIO print cartridge included in the
price for even more value. CPP factors for the new SP 3500SF/SP
3510SF are calculated below.

SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF CPP Calculation

Consumable Est. Price Yield* Cost-Per-Page

Standard Yield AIO $85.75 2,500 pages $0.034
High Yield AIO $138.44 6,400 pages $0.021
*Declared yield values in accordance with ISO/IEC 19752, (equivalent to approx. 5% image coverage). Actual
yields may vary based images printed and other factors.

Note: The 5,000-page AIO print cartridge for use with the SP 3400SF/SP 3410SF will be available as a supply
item for customers with a mix of older SP 3400SF Series and new SP 3500SF Series laser printers and MFPs.
However the 5,000-page AIO is not being marketed as a first-line supply item for the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF.
Although the 5,000-page AIO is forward-compatible, the greater savings and lower CPP factors for the SP
3500SF/SP 3510SF are achieved with the increased 6,400-page AIO. (The new 6,400-page cartridge is not
backwards-compatible with the SP 3400SF/SP 3410SF).

With regard to device maintenance, the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is designed so that all other imaging elements
are intended to last for the life of the unit. The fusing unit, transfer roller, and paper feed rollers have an
expected life of 120,000 pages. If customer volume trends toward the middle of the recommended monthly
volume range, say 2,000 total prints/copies/faxes per month, these items will never need replacing.

2,000 prints/month x 12 months = 24,000 total pages/year

x 5-year machine life = 120,000 total print/copy/fax pages over unit life

Should higher monthly volumes eventually require the replacement of these parts over the life of the unit, they
are easily installed by a service technician. If customer volumes are already approaching the upper end of the
recommended average range, say 3,000 prints/month, you may want to step up to a more robust solution.

30
Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF B&W Desktop MFP
Full Color Scanning
Although the Savin SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF are black & white
output devices, that does not limit their scanning capabilities to
monochrome images.

The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is equipped with a color charged

coupled device (CCD) array to capture full color and grayscale
images with 8-bit image depth and black & white images at 1-bit.

The color CCD array is built into the main unit of the SP 3500SF/SP
3510SF, so full color scanning is enabled regardless of the
configured document feeder.

Why pair a B&W print engine with a full color scanner?

Whether originals are manually placed on the platen glass or fed via the ADF or ARDF, the SP 3500SF/SP
3510SF uses a full-color CCD scanner array to capture every image. Why put full color scanning capabilities on
a monochrome print engine? Because not every scanned image is destined for monochrome output on the
device that created it.

As true multifunction communication devices with built-in electronic document distribution (Scan-to-
Email/Folder/FTP/USB) capabilities, the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF completes the multifunction feature set by
enabling the full color image capture and transmission of pictures, illustrations, charts, and other documents
that are best communicated in color. Further, the image quality for black & white output is improved when
using a full color CCD to capture grayscale images and details such as shadows. Lastly, manufacturing
economies of scale make it cost efficient to include color scanning hardware in all Savin MFP solutions. When
originals are scanned for monochrome copying or black & white faxing, the color CCD provides the depth to
deliver 256-level grayscale and black & white images with image quality and detail superior to that of
monochrome scanners.

Available scanning resolutions vary by system mode (Copy/Scan/Fax) and how the original is scanned (via
ADF/ARDF, or placed on the platen glass).

Ø When documents are placed on the platen glass (outlined

in red) the optical resolution can be set for up to 1200 x
1200 dpi when TWAIN scanning, up to 600 x 600 dpi
when performing Scan-to-Email/FTP/Folder/USB, and up
to 600 x 600 dpi when copying.

Ø When documents are placed in the ADF/ARDF, the

originals are moved over a stationary bar scanner
(outlined in blue). Scanning resolution is a maximum of
600 x 300 dpi when copying, and up to 600 x 600 dpi for
Scan-to-Email/FTP/Folder/USB.

Ø Fax mode offers a choice of 200 x 100 dpi or 200 x 200 dpi resolution no matter how the original is
scanned.

31
Controller, Memory, & Interfaces
The Savin SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF ship with a standard controller, RAM, and interface ports that provide
the processing power and connectivity to quickly prepare typical business documents for printing, scanning
and sending, and PC faxing from the desktop in peer-to-peer or networked environments. These specifications
are identical for both models.

Controller
The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is equipped with a 350 MHz processor. This CPU provides more than enough
capacity to quickly process black & white print jobs at resolutions of 600 x 600 dpi and 1200 x 600 dpi while
maintaining output speeds of up to 30-ppm. Unlike some other solutions that use "GDI" or host-based
controllers that leverage the data processing capabilities of the sending computer to prepare files for printing,
the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF controller has the power required to handle multiple jobs in busy small offices
within itself, and supports professional workflows with page description languages and fonts for Windows and
Macintosh users, including PCL 6 and PostScript 3 emulations – specifications that will be a requirement of
most small business decision-makers. The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is also capable of printing at an enhanced
resolution of true 1200 x 1200 dpi at 50% productivity for documents requiring extra depth and image quality.

However, please note the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is not based on the Savin GW Controller Architecture and
therefore does not support many of the advanced data security features and connectivity options found on
higher volume Savin devices. Keeping in mind that the primary target market for the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF
has little need for data security, the implementation of this controller helps Savin provide affordable solutions
to customers in this market segment.

Memory
The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF offers 128 MB RAM as its standard and maximum memory
capacity. This amount is sufficient to handle all simplex black & white print jobs up to
8.5" x 14" at resolutions up to 1200 x 1200 dpi, and two-sided printing at 600 x 600 and
1200 x 600 dpi. (Duplex printing at 1200 x 1200 dpi is not supported.)

The increased amount of memory over the printer-only version (the SP 3500N/SP 3510DN printers has 64 MB
RAM) is used to support Scan Once/Print Many copying, retain scans in memory during Scan-to jobs, and to
store Address Book data.

Note: There are no memory or Hard Disk options available for the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF.

SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF output speeds and resolutions are summarized in the table below. Duplex productivity
for the SP 3510SF is approximately 50% of the rated simplex engine speed.

Mode Simplex Duplex (SP 3510SF only)

Resolution 8.5" x 11" 8.5" x 14" 8.5" x 11" 8.5" x 14"

Note: Print speeds assuming 20 lb. Bond paper; print speeds will decrease for thicker media.

32
Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF B&W Desktop MFP
Interfaces
Both machines are equipped with USB 2.0 and 10/100Base-TX Ethernet interfaces as standard equipment
for connection to a PC or LAN. These ports are located on the rear of the device. There is also a front USB 2.0
Host port on the front of the MFP for convenient Scan-to-USB functionality (see Scan & Send in the
Multifunction Review).

If the printer is to be used by a single user, the USB 2.0 interface (top right) provides a
direct connection to drive all print, scan, and PC fax jobs through a single computer in a
peer-to-peer environment, or in areas where tighter control over device access is desired.
The USB 2.0 interface offers data transfer speeds as fast as 480 Mbps for the fast
execution of every job. Further, the USB port is backwards compatible with the 12 Mbps
standard for use with older PCs.

If the printer is to service multiple users either immediately upon installation or anytime after purchase, the
10/100Base-TX Ethernet interface (bottom right) supports the needs of up to 29 connected users (even
environments with mixed Mac and Windows computers) simultaneously. Simply connect the device to the LAN
via the RJ-45 port and all authorized users on the network can share the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF. The MFP's
Auto Sensing/Auto Switching feature automatically recognizes the type of incoming data stream and switches
to the appropriate PCL or PS3 page description language. Files are transferred at speeds up to 100Mbps to
minimize bottlenecks.

Note: There are no optional interfaces available for the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF.

Supported Network/Client Operating Systems

In addition to languages that describe page
content, driver screens, and font appearance,
there are rules that govern how data is Windows
transferred back and forth between different Server 2003/R2
Citri
or
kinds of PCs and network servers, peripherals,
Server 2008/R2
MFPs, and printers. In order for a customer’s PC network server
to communicate with a connected SP
3500SF/SP 3510SF, both must support the
same set of data communication rules or
protocols. The versatile SP 3500SF and SP
3510SF support a number of various computing
platforms and operating systems common to
Windows XP, Vista, or Mac OS X10.4+ client
general office environments to ensure that all 7 client computer computer or Citrix node
connected users can access them with plug-
and-play simplicity. Supported "front office"
operating systems include:

Ø Windows XP, Vista, 7, Server 2003/2003R2,

Server 2008/2008R2

Ø Mac OS X 10.4 or later

33
Front office is a term that refers to typical general office printing applications – the kind of jobs you see
corporate employees and office workers printing from their Windows or Mac computers to a desktop or shared
workgroup printer. These are usually Microsoft Office, PDF, and E-mail/Web page printing applications.
Windows and Mac users simply connect the networking cables and download the appropriate printer driver
and utilities to their PC from the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF CD-ROM to begin printing, scanning, and faxing from
the desktop.

For larger environments and national accounts or fleet sales, the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF also supports Citrix
and the Savin UNIX Filter that will allow these devices to serve in "line of business" applications as well, thereby
adding more value to your solution.

Citrix Support
Citrix XenApp, (formerly Presentation Server, and before that, MetaFrame), is a server-
based computing standard that is very popular in enterprise-class environments. It runs
"on top of" Windows XP, Windows Server 2003/R2, and Windows Server 2008. It allows
IT administrators to install and control access to software from a central server that
acts as a hub. Applications are not loaded onto individual PCs; rather they are stored on
the server and presented to individual users as needed when they launch the
application on their networked computer. This contributes to data security and greatly
relieves IT personnel of the burden of installing/updating software on individual
devices. This model also reduces hardware expenses as it eliminates the need for
powerful desktop systems to run applications locally; instead replacing them with less costly "thin clients".
However this computing model has a major limitation in that Citrix users cannot execute many of the advanced
printing features of connected devices like duplexing, access additional paper sources, or print documents
stored on a hard disk drive (if so configured).

To resolve this problem and allow Savin

devices to be installed in Citrix
environments, Savin has developed the
Device Option Utility for Citrix that allows
Citrix users to discover and access all
available printer features, thus making the
SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF a viable option for
server-based computing environments and
global accounts.

The Device Option Utility for Citrix can be

downloaded for free at http://www.Savin-
.com/downloads.

34
Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF B&W Desktop MFP
Savin UNIX Filter Support
Whereas Microsoft Windows (and to a lesser extent, Macintosh OS X) dominates the client or front office OS
market, UNIX solutions are widely accepted in server-based OS "back office" or line of business (non-Windows)
applications such as customer invoicing, monthly client statements, sales and inventory reports, payroll, etc.

Therefore the SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF support the Savin UNIX Filter, which will allow these MFPs to be
placed into host print environments, thereby expanding your sales opportunities. The Savin UNIX Filter
supports many flavors of UNIX, allowing enterprise-class mainframe computers to take advantage of cut-sheet,
plain paper laser printing with complete access to image and document manipulation features such as
duplexing and finishing (if available).

The Savin UNIX Filter is the missing link

between legacy computer languages and
today's more efficient laser printing
technologies. Without this filter the UNIX
system may still be able to print to the
target device, but the advanced features
available to users through the driver would
not be supported. As illustrated in this host
print example, the Savin UNIX Filter with the
device option feature allows the host
system to “see” the duplexing capabilities
and optional paper supply of the SP
3510SF.

Driving print volumes to the latest laser printers instead of older, noisy dot matrix line printers will allow host
print customers to save money, increase print speed and productivity, as well as produce output of equal
quality to other areas of the enterprise. The Savin UNIX Filter is available for the environments listed here.

Supported UNIX Platforms

Sun Solaris 2.6, 7, 8, 9, 10
HP-UX 10.x, 11.x, 11i v2, 11iv3
Red Hat Linux 6.x, 7.x, 8.x, 9, and Enterprise V4, V5, V6
SCO Open Server 5.0.6, 5.0.7, 6.0
IBM AIX V4.3 and 5L V5.1, V5.2, V5.3, V6.1, V7.1

CAUTION: Just because the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF supports these utilities doesn't mean it should be used
extensively for line of business printing. Due to its relatively low volume ratings, the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is
not suitable for full-time host print applications. However, it is compatible with the Savin UNIX Filter and Citrix
utilities to handle short runs or to serve as an emergency back-up device. If host printing is a sizable
application for your prospect, consider recommending a faster, higher volume solution.

Please see the Legacy Features List for a list of the advanced networking features supported by the SP
3500SF/SP 3510SF.

Increased All-In-One Print Cartridge Yield
In addition to lower hardware prices Savin has also worked to reduce running
costs. The new SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF will offer AIO supplies in two cartridge yield
sizes: the Standard 2,500-page and a new High Yield 6,400-page print cartridge.
6,400-page Yield
The increased AIO yield from 5,000 to 6,400 pages means less frequent cash
outlays for supplies, longer periods between replacement, and slightly lower cost-
per-page factors.

The new 6,400-page High Yield AIO cartridge* has an expected retail price of $138.44.
This calculates to a CPP of 2.1¢.
*All yields are based on ISO/IEC 19752.

Savin customers can continue to purchase the 5,000-page AIO for use with older SP 3400SF/SP 3410SF units
that will remain in service. (The new 6,400-page AIO cannot be used with the SP 3400SF/SP 3410SF.)

Redesigned Control Panel with 4-line Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)

Whereas the SP 3400SF/SP 3410SF offered a 2-line x 16-character LCD panel, the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is
equipped with a larger, more user friendly 4-line LCD panel and LCD panel selection keys to better manage

Improved Image Quality: 1200 x 1200 dpi Print Resolution Support
The SP 3400SF/SP 3410SF offered 600 x 600 dpi and 1200 x 600 dpi print resolution. The new SP
3500SF/SP 3510SF builds on this spec by adding a true 1200 x 1200 dpi print resolution setting to
supplement the 600 x 600 dpi and 1200 x 600 dpi output modes.

That means in addition to everyday business

documents the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is also
well suited to producing grayscale images with
depth and smooth blends, making it an
excellent device for monochrome newsletters,
brochures, spec sheets, and other documents
with large blocks of solid areas, shadows and
fine detail.

Notes:
Ø When set for 1200 x 1200 dpi output,
printing speed is reduced by 50%.
Ø 1200 x 1200 dpi is not available when
printing two-sided pages.

Increased Fax Speed Dial Support

The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF now offers an increased quantity of 200 Speed Dials to store frequently dialed fax
numbers. The SP 3400SF/SP 3410SF was equipped with 50 Speed Dials.

50-sheet Automatic Reversing Document Feeder

In the previous SP 3400SF Series, both the manual and auto duplexing models were equipped with a 35-sheet
Automatic Document Feeder. This feeder was capable of processing single sided originals for copying,
scanning, and faxing. However this limited productivity for customers with two-sided original scanning needs.

In the new SP 3500SF Series, the manual duplexing SP

3500SF retains the 35-sheet ADF, but the automatic
duplexing SP 3510SF is now equipped with a 50-sheet
Automatic Reversing Document Feeder that is capable of
inverting two-sided originals for second side scanning. This
will dramatically increase productivity for users with two-sided
scanning workflows by enabling 2-sided à 2-sided copy
modes and duplex scanning for fax and Scan-to jobs.

Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF B&W Desktop MFP
Savin Universal Printer Driver (UPD) Support
Savin's Universal Print Driver provides a single intelligent advanced driver interface that can be used across
your customers' entire fleet of MFPs and laser printers. It is an effective solution for large organizations with a
variety of printing devices and large populations of users. Savin's UPD lets you simplify printer support and
lower management costs without sacrificing the features important to your customers.

Universal Printer Driver:

When the target device
is a black & white
machine, the user
interface automatically
changes to reflect that
machine's capabilities.

Universal Printer Driver support allows the Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF to be included in an overall managed
document strategy approach along with other right-sized devices to be placed at every point of need. The
Universal Printer Driver will be a big time-saver for IT personnel, eliminating the headaches of supporting and
upgrading multiple users and devices with the latest driver versions. When the Savin Universal Printer Driver is
loaded onto a PC it gets device information from the target MFP or printer MIB over the network. If the device is
an applicable model the driver interface changes to the Universal Printer Driver to reflect that machine's
capabilities and options. The user then programs a print job just like any other.

Benefits of the Universal Printer Driver include:

Ø Removes a big burden from IT departments. Eliminate the need to support device-specific drivers.
The UPD gives end-users the ability to output to virtually any device. There is no need to change or
install new drivers at every workstation when new printers or MFPs are installed on the network.

Ø Reduces hidden support costs and lowers TCO. Customers can save time certifying new machines.
Once the Universal Printer Driver is certified for use only the new device functionality needs to be
tested, saving IT resources. Support costs are lowered by reducing calls to Help Desk personnel and
through more streamlined device management.

Ø Delivers full-featured printing to end-users. Savin's Universal Printer Driver uses bidirectional
communication to determine the capabilities and feature set of the target machine. For newer Savin
systems it supports the full functionality of the device including all advanced features and finishing
modes (if available). For older machines and most 3rd-party devices, Savin's UPD enables maximum
functionality from a set of generic printing features including paper, layout, print quality, watermarks
and other modes supported by most devices.

Ø Provides a consistent printing interface. The UPD makes it obvious and easy to know which features
are available and where to find them no matter the target device. By simplifying the process for users
unsuccessful printing and frustration is reduced, waste is limited, and overall satisfaction is improved.

Note: The Universal Printer Driver for use with the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is available only for PCL.

39
Printer Driver Packager NX
The Printer Driver Packager NX is a
utility that makes it easy to
streamline printer operation and
implement identical printing rules
across entire organizations. Printer
Driver Packager NX is the successor
to Savin's Printer Driver Editor.
Packager NX retains the driver
customization tools of Editor while
adding new functionality for the
packaging and distribution of
drivers to all networked users.
Printer Driver Packager NX is
available as a free download from
the Savin website.

As you know, to print to a printer or MFP a printer driver must be installed on the user's computer. Simple
enough, but in enterprise-class network environments the user may also need information such as their
computer's IP address, the target device's IP address, and possibly a port number, serial number, or other
network setting to choose the proper device. Further, in large corporate environments there are often a
number of nearby devices to which a user can print a job. That device information may be available locally or it
may be a half-world away. The Printer Driver Packager NX does exactly what its name says it does:

1. Printer driver customization. IT personnel can modify and lock default print settings such as duplexing
or restrict access to color to reduce printing costs and enforce consistent corporate printing rules.
Features can be hidden from end-user view, and authentication procedures can be set.

2. Printer driver packaging. Allows IT personnel to preset mandatory parameters for printer driver
installation. It also permits multiple drivers to be gathered into one package so they can be installed
by end users in a single operation.

3. Printer driver distribution. Enables IT personnel to automate driver deployment to all networked
employee workstations in a single operation, minimizing the time and effort involved in upgrading or
changing printing capabilities across the entire organization.

Page Description Languages (PDLs)
PDLs are sets of rules governing how computers "speak" to output devices to describe the appearance and
placement of text and graphics on a page. The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF understands the most popular
languages in use today. It also features an Auto Sensing/Auto Switching capability that allows the printer to
toggle back and forth between various network protocols and languages of the inbound data streams
automatically so it can support mixed networks (i.e. Windows and Mac) without administrator intervention. The
following PDLs are standard with the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF and support all resolution levels:

Ø PCL, or Printer Control Language, is the most commonly used printing language for general office
applications today. PCL was invented by HP for use with its' PCs and printers. Over time this language
has been adopted by multiple manufacturers and has become the dominant standard for printing in
Windows environments.

PCL 6 is the latest version. Support for this emulation enables the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF to be
seamlessly installed into any existing HP/IBM-compatible Windows environment, making these MFPs
more acceptable to users who prefer familiar PCL workflows and/or require access to features like
Locked Print, or the User ID mode to restrict device access.

Note: The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF also supports PCL 5e, an earlier version. This PDL does not ship
with the product CD-ROM, but the controller can receive and is capable of printing PCL 5e information
sent from a host computer.

Ø PostScript 3 emulation (PS3) is the de facto PDL standard for all desktop publishing applications and
high-end graphic workflows.

PS3 emulation enables Macintosh and other users with larger file sizes and/or specific image
manipulation needs to print to the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF with maximum control and image quality.

Genuine Adobe PostScript 3 or PS3 emulation?

Concerned that your prospect will want genuine Adobe PostScript 3 and not an emulation? Assure your
customer that Savin's PS3 emulation is a tried and true solution. Early versions of PDL emulations (or clones)
suffered from accuracy errors when printing. Today's versions have virtually eliminated processing errors for
near-flawless performance when printing PostScript files. By implementing PS3 emulation, Savin is able to
support PostScript workflows in a less expensive solution by eliminating the licensing costs from Adobe for
genuine PostScript.

Fonts
Fonts are sets of rules that instruct a printer to draw text characters in a specific style.
The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF reserves space in its memory to store 80 font packages Times
for use with its PCL 6 and PostScript 3 emulation printer drivers. Storing font data at Arial
the device speeds printing by eliminating the need for the printer to "reach back" to
the sending PC to request the font information required to draw each character. Courier

Copying with the SP 3500SF & SP 3510SF
The Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is equipped with integrated full color scanning plus a wide range of digital
copying features that provide small office environments with the ability to manipulate image and document
quality for all of their black & white document reproduction needs up to Legal size.

When functioning as a copier the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF scans originals at 600 x 600 dpi optical scanning
resolution when placed on the platen glass, and at 600 x 300 dpi when feeding originals from the ADF/ARDF.
The maximum programmable copy quantity is up to 99 sets per job.

Copy output resolution is 600 x 600 dpi with 256-level grayscale support for sharp images, crisp text, and
smooth monochrome gradations, blends and shadows.

See Full Color Scanning in Core Technologies for more information on platen glass/ADF/ARDF scanning
resolutions.

To enter the copy mode the user presses the Copy hard key on the control panel. The 4-line LCD will display the
default copy settings that are modified and set using the arrow and mode selection keys. Users input the
original type (Text, Photo, or Mixed) via the Image Quality key, adjust density and reproduction ratio if
necessary, and press Start.

As digital devices the SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF need to scan an

original only once. The data is stored in RAM and all requested copies
are made from the data captured during the initial scan. This process,
known as Scan Once/Print Many technology, ensures consistent image
quality and maximum reliability.

There are two ways to process hardcopy originals for copying:

1. Users can load stacks of up to 35 one-sided originals face up in the

ADF (standard on the SP 3500SF, top), or up to 50 one- or two-
sided originals in the ARDF (standard on the SP 3510SF, bottom).

When originals are fed via the ADF/ARDF, image data is captured
as each page moves over a stationary bar scanner positioned to the
left of the platen glass (in blue). The maximum original size for
copying is 8.5" x 14" when originals are fed via the ADF/ARDF. (See
System Configuration for media capacity and specifications).

2. Users can also place originals directly on the 8.5" x 11" platen glass
(in red). The platen should be used to copy odd-size or heavyweight
originals, pages from books or magazines, maps, photographs, and
other documents that cannot fit into or should not be subject to
bending in the ADF/ARDF.

46
Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF B&W Desktop MFP

ID Card Copy Mode

The SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF also support an ID Card Copy mode that pauses the scanning operation for up
to 30 seconds after the first side is captured so users can invert a small two-sided document such as an
insurance card, driver license, or check, and copy both sides onto the same side of a sheet of paper.

The Shortcut to Function key (circled) allows users to elevate a priority feature such as ID Card Copy to one-
touch status. The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF produces multiple copies of a single page document at speeds up to
30-cpm; multi-page sets are produced at an efficient 20-cpm. First copy times are 12 seconds or less. Other
critical copy features include Automatic Duplexing (SP 3510SF only), Combine Copy, 25% - 400% zoom with
multiple preset ratios, Image Quality Adjustment, and more. Please see Legacy Features and the Common
Features Guide for more information on supported copying features.

Scanning & Sending with the SP 3500SF & SP 3510SF

One of the ways in which multifunction products add value is by
leveraging existing hardware components to execute multiple functions at
little or zero incremental cost. Image capture and electronic document
distribution functionality is achieved by employing the same scanning and
document feeding hardware that is used for copying and faxing. The same
PC or network connection that is used for printing also enables file
transfer capabilities.

The benefits of scanning using the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF include the capturing of hardcopy images in digital
form for re-use or modification and the time and cost savings realized by sharing files over established network
data lines as opposed to per-call faxing or courier charges.

The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is equipped with a full color CCD (Charged Coupled Device) array that supports
standard 8-bit full color and grayscale scanning, and 1-bit black & white scanning.

This section provides capsule reviews of primary SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF image capture and electronic
document distribution modes. Please see Legacy Features and the Common Features Guide for more
information on supported scanning features.

Image Capture: TWAIN Scanning

By launching a TWAIN driver installed on a connected
computer users can place originals on the platen glass or
in the ADF/ARDF and initiate a scan job from the PC.

The user specifies the scanner settings such as

resolution, brightness, image size, and file type in a
TWAIN-compliant scanner driver (Presto! PageManager
software with a TWAIN Driver is provided on the CD-ROM
that ships with the MFP). The user then pulls the file back
to their desktop for use with image editing applications
such as Adobe PhotoShop or Savin’s DeskTopBinder. Files
are then available for further editing, incorporation into
other documents and presentations, OCR processing, or
to save for future use or archival.

There are two ways to enable TWAIN image capture:

Ø USB TWAIN scanning is active when the SP

3500SF/SP 3510SF is connected directly to a Mac or
Windows PC in a peer-to-peer set up via the USB 2.0
interface.

Ø Network TWAIN scanning is active when the SP

3500SF/SP 3510SF is connected to a Windows local
area network via the hardwired Ethernet interface. All
connected users can scan images and documents
back to their networked computer. Data is sent to the
proper destination selected from the Address Book.

The maximum driver resolution at which an image can

be saved when TWAIN scanning is up to 19,200 x
19,200 dpi.

49
Ø The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF also supports Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) scanning. This protocol
is similar to TWAIN scanning, but is optimized for use with Windows PCs running XP, Vista, 7, or Server
2008. The WIA scanner driver is usually found in the Windows software included with PCs running
those operating systems. Support for this standard allows the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF to initiate
scanning tasks with the latest computers.

The maximum resolution at which an image can be saved when WIA scanning is up to 600 x 600 dpi.

Note: WIA scanning does not support Macintosh, and is only available when a Windows PC is
connected via the USB 2.0 interface.

Scan to Portable Media: Scan-to-USB

As part of its standard feature set the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF
offers Scan-to-USB capability through a USB 2.0 Host port
(circled) built into the front of the MFP. Users can scan a
document from the platen or the ADF/ARDF and insert a USB
flash drive as the file destination. This function provides a fast
and easy way to convert documents into a portable digital
format so users can work on documents using other PCs or
laptops, and to share files when Email or faxing is not possible.

Simply insert a USB flash drive into the port on the front of the machine and
press the Scan key. The user makes the desired image quality/file format
selections using the control panel hard keys menus and the LCD panel, and
presses Start. The MFP automatically recognizes the portable drive as the
destination for that scan job.

The maximum resolution at which an image can be saved when performing

Scan-to-USB is up to 600 x 600 dpi from the platen glass or ADF/ARDF.

Note: When a USB flash drive is inserted into the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF,
scanning functions other than Scan-to-USB are not available. When executing
TWAIN or Scan-to jobs, make sure there is no flash drive inserted in the
machine.

Scan-to: Electronic Document Distribution
When the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is connected to a local area network users are able to scan documents at
the MFP and send files directly to registered Email address and network folders.

This function uses the MFP's standard Ethernet connection to send scanned images to virtually any network
destination, leveraging the system’s 8-bit full color scanning capability to enable cost-free information sharing,
simultaneous document distribution, and archival needs. Scan-to functionality has brought a new standard of
convenience to every office. Electronic document storage and distribution has become an indispensable part
of business workflows, allowing users to:

Ø Speed the sharing of information to all recipients instantly and simultaneously.

Ø Maintain the integrity of original documents and their impact by capturing and sending data and
images in full-color.

Ø Edit, modify, and/or reprint documents on demand, minimizing waste and the cost of storing outdated
documents.

Ø Maintain original image quality indefinitely.

Ø Guard against fraud or loss – a digital original is always available.

Ø Allow more than one user to view/print/access a single document at a time.

Ø Reduce expenses by sending data over established network lines at no cost to the sender.

The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF supports three primary methods for sending scanned data, depending upon your
customer’s specific needs or applications, Scan-to-Email, Scan-to-FTP, and Scan-to-Folder.

When scanning a file to an Email, FTP, or Folder destination, users can send files in color, grayscale, or black &
white at resolutions up to 600 x 600 dpi from the platen glass or ADF/ARDF.

But the first order of business is registering Scan-to destinations.

The Address Book: Registering & Selecting Destinations

The first step to enable any type of electronic document
distribution in the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is to register
Scan-to-Email addresses and Scan-to-FTP/Folder
destinations in the system's Address Book.

This must be done prior to any sending operation using

Web Image Monitor. Entering an Email address or network
destination directly at the control panel for "ad hoc"
sending is not supported.

The Scan-to-Email registration screen pictured at right.

Similar screens are displayed for Scan-to-FTP and Scan-to-
Folder destinations.

51
The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF Scanner Address Book has a maximum capacity of 100 entries. This may be a
mix of Email addresses and network (FTP and Folder) destinations. The 20 most important scan and fax
recipients can be assigned One-touch keys. Here the user inputs the Email address, name, and file sending
preferences, and assigns the contact to a One-touch or Speed Dial number.

Registered destinations can be easily selected for Scan-to and

fax jobs using the One-touch keys or by searching the Address
Book for registered Speed Dials and selecting a destination
displayed in the LCD panel using the arrow keys.

When scrolling through the Address Book users can search

recipients by name, destination, registration number, or Email
address.

After selecting a recipient(s), users place originals in the ADF/ARDF or on the platen glass for scanning, make
the desired scan settings, and press the Start key to initiate the Scan-to process. The file is automatically sent
to the selected destination(s) in a single operation.

The following Scan-to modes are supported for full color, grayscale, and black & white scanning, all with a
maximum 600 x 600 dpi resolution.

Scan-to-Email with LDAP Support

Scan-to-Email allows users to instantly and
simultaneously distribute scanned documents in TIFF,
JPEG, or PDF file format to multiple E-mail recipients
over the Internet or Intranet in black & white or full
color, saving time and expense versus more tedious
and costly faxing, messengers, or overnight couriers.

Recipients may be selected at the control panel from

entries registered in the system's Address Book
and/or the 20 One-touch dial positions, or in larger
organizations by accessing the company’s LDAP
server for a list of pre-approved, accurate Email
addresses. See the User Guide for steps to point the
SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF to the proper LDAP server for
Email searching.

Users can specify up to 100 total "To/cc/bcc"

recipients per Scan-to-Email transmission. Scanned
documents can be named, and subject messages can
be entered up to 64 characters.

52
Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF B&W Desktop MFP
Scan-to-FTP
Scan-to-FTP (File Transfer Protocol) helps reduce network
traffic and enables easy sharing of large files between remote
workgroups and offices or between users of different operating
systems.

FTP servers act as electronic bulletin boards where users can

post large files to be downloaded by recipients at their
convenience, circumventing E-mail inbox limitations.

FTP destinations are selected from pre-registered entries in the

Address Book. Users can select 1 FTP server destination per
transmission.

Scan-to-Folder
Scan-to-Folder (SMB - Server Message Block) lets users
securely send documents directly to a designated shared
folder on a Windows PC or network server to be accessed by
users with proper network privileges. Excellent for team-based
projects and remote collaboration, it also serves as a cost-
effective archival and basic print-on-demand solution. The
destination folder may be located on a PC, server, or a
dedicated external HDD.

Network folder destinations are also selected from pre-

registered entries in the Address Book. Users can select 1
SMB Folder destination per transmission.

53
Faxing with the SP 3500SF & SP 3510SF
The Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF provides standard Super G3
fax capabilities to meet the point-to-point communication
needs of small offices and businesses that need to exchange
hardcopy documents with people outside the data network.

Whether the application calls for sending prescriptions to

pharmacies, submitting healthcare benefit claim forms to
insurance providers, communicating real estate offers and
counteroffers to buyers and sellers, filing buy and sell orders
for financial products, or just broadcasting today’s deli lunch
specials to dozens of local customers, fax remains a viable
part of the multifunction feature set. Fax is familiar to most users, and is a reliable, cost-effective, and
convenient means to send data to recipients who may not be accessible via E-mail. It is still the easiest way to
gather documents with legally binding signatures from remote parties.
The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF meets customer's business faxing requirements with
one standard Fax LINE port and another TEL port for connection to a telephone
handset or answering machine system, plus support for LAN Fax and Internet Fax.

The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is equipped with a Super G3 33.6 Kbps fax modem for
transmission speeds as fast as 3-seconds-per-page. Each system has a 200-entry
Fax Address Book capacity that is separate from the 100-entry Scan Address Book.
The 20 One-touch dials conveniently located on the front panel can be programmed
for fax numbers as well as Scan-to jobs. Users can register up to 200 more
frequently dialed fax numbers as Speed Dials accessed via the Address Book key.
When using the Broadcast feature, users can send a fax to up to 100 destinations
from a single scan.

As with scanning destinations, the

SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF can also
access a company’s LDAP server
for a list of pre-approved, accurate
fax numbers. See the User Guide
for steps to point the SP
3500SF/SP 3510SF to the proper
LDAP server for fax number
searching.

One difference between faxing and scanning on the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is that walk-up users can enter fax
numbers for direct dialing at the keypad, and fax numbers can be saved in memory as Speed Dials when
entered from the control panel. (Scan-to destinations must be pre-registered in the Address Book using Web
Image Monitor before sending is enabled).

54
Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF B&W Desktop MFP
For hardcopy faxing the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF uses its
ADF/ARDF to speed the scanning of multi-page faxes as large as
8.5" x 14". Originals are scanned for fax jobs as fast as 5 seconds
per page (LTR @ 200 dpi). The SP 3510SF supports scanning two-
sided originals for fax jobs. Users can also fax single page
documents up to 8.5" x 11" directly from the platen glass. Simply
press the Facsimile key to enter the fax mode.

3500SF/SP 3510SF fax feature set.

55
LAN Fax Support
Once the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is connected to a PC and a
standard telephone line users can execute outbound
Windows PC faxing from the desktop via the bundled LAN
Fax Driver utility provided on the CD-ROM. This bypasses the
hardcopy printing/scanning stages and transmits data to the
desired fax destination directly from a Windows computer,
reducing lines and wait times at the device. (Macintosh is not
supported).

LAN Faxing increases end user productivity by eliminating the

need to create and print a document, walk to the unit, and
then scan and transmit it. Accurate fax number selection
from Address Book entries or LDAP servers eliminates wrong
numbers and misdials. Further, eliminating the need to print
prior to transmission lowers TCO by reducing paper and
consumable consumption. Users input all document settings
in the LAN Fax driver, as shown.

The LAN Fax Driver makes it easy to select recipients and

send a document from the desktop. It also allows users to
create digital cover sheets that can include the sender's
identification, the date and time of the fax, and a message to
the recipient.

LAN Faxing yields better image quality of faxed documents.

Documents that are sent directly from the workstation do not
experience any of the image degradation that can result from
the scanning and conversion process.

The LAN Fax Driver offers a separate 1,000-entry Address

Book to store and manage all frequent LAN fax destinations
at the user's desktop. Users can organize recipients into
groups, with up to 100 recipients per group. This is in
addition to the 200-entry Fax Address Book embedded in the
SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF.

56
Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF B&W Desktop MFP
T.37 Internet Fax (I-Fax) Support
Internet Faxing uses established network data lines rather than analog
telephone lines to communicate with other Internet Fax-enabled
Internet /
devices or PCs on the network, in essence providing free faxing. I-
Network data lines
Fax units identify and contact each other by IP addresses rather
than telephone numbers. Internet faxing is immune to line noise,
dropped calls, and busy signals common to PSTN faxing.

The document is completely scanned and then converted

to E-mail (TIFF-F) format before transmission to another I-
Fax system. The document is printed after the entire file
has been downloaded to the receiving system. (Internet Fax
is not a real-time fax mode like traditional G3 or IP Faxing
that can output pages while reception is in progress.) The
Internet Fax feature is compliant with the ITU-T Rec.T.37 Simple Mode specification, which means that delivery
confirmation is not supported.

See the User Guide to properly configure network settings to enable the I-Fax function.

Other highlights of SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF Super G3 fax capabilities include the ability to register special
senders to screen unwanted/junk fax, forwarding faxes to Email, and printing faxes stored in memory. Please
see Legacy Features and the Common Features Guide for more information on supported fax transmission,
reception, and telephone features.

57
Device & Document Management
The Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF control
panel is designed to provide simple
operation to walk-up users in all modes.
But the real job of device installation,
network configuration, ongoing device
monitoring, and address book input and maintenance is accomplished from a connected computer using a
remote software utility. There are two such tools for use with these MFPs, Savin's Web Image Monitor and
Presto! PageManager document organization software.

Web Image Monitor

Web Image Monitor is built into the controller of almost every Savin printer and MFP. It provides a direct web-
based connection to the device via a typical Web browser like Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari. Connected
users simply enter the system's IP address as the URL to access the Home page, as shown here. Web Image
Monitor is available to both Windows and Macintosh users. It requires the network connection and TCP/IP to
be active to allow connected users and administrators to see detailed information about the unit, and operate
or change settings remotely.

There are two modes; a Guest

Mode that allows users to see
device settings and system status,
but changes cannot be made; and
an Administrator Mode in which
authorized personnel can make
and modify system settings and
preferences, select LDAP servers,
and more including:

Ø Display the machine

status including toner
supply and paper size for
each source.

Ø Modify and save settings

for the paper type and
size loaded in each tray.

58
Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF B&W Desktop MFP
Ø Display counter information including page
sizes and number of sides imaged for each
print, copy, and scan function, plus track the
number of fax transmissions and receptions.

Ø Maintain address books, passwords, and

register Scan-to, One-touch, and Speed Dial
destinations to eliminate tedious keying at the
control panel.

Ø Print all kinds of usage reports and configure

device settings to send error notification by E-
mail to the proper recipient.

Ø Program user restriction and fax Special

Senders, and configure LDAP settings.

Ø Configure printer status notification by E-mail to

send alerts such as "Toner Almost Empty", "No
Paper", or "Cover Open" to the proper
administrator. Users control the timing,
recipient(s) and error items to notify. These
functions help system administrators maximize
uptime and track use from the desktop.

Ø Make network protocol, interface, and port

settings. Set the date and time, manage login
data, and re-set the device to factory defaults.

Ø Restrict User Functions. Administrators can

restrict individual function access for up to 30
authorized users. When enabled, the MFP will
ask for a User ID up to 8 digits when a user
tries to access the device. Administrators can
click a Restrict or Do Not Restrict radio button
for several areas of system functionality
including Copying, Fax Transmission, Scan-to
Sending, Scan-to-USB, Printing, and PC Fax
Transmission (bottom picture).

Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF B&W Desktop MFP
MARKETING THE SAVIN SP 3500SF & SP 3510SF
An MFP For All
The Savin SP 3500SF and SP 3510SF Desktop
Monochrome Laser MFPs are perfectly equipped to
handle all the business communication needs of small
offices and workgroups. Much more than a consumer all-
in-one, these robust multifunction devices deliver 30-ppm
output productivity with standard networking, versatile
operating system support, and an average volume of up
to 3,300 total impressions per month – all while utilizing
Savin's proven All-In-One print cartridge technology.
Whether the primary need is for a printer, copier, scanner,
or fax…whether the user population is a sole professional
in a home office, the VP's executive assistant, shared
among rotating employees behind the hotel front desk or
hospital admissions counter, or a small group of
employees in a corporate workgroup or small branch
office…the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF does it all! Both
models are rated to handle the workloads of up to 29
users across all printing, copying, faxing, and scanning
tasks with professional image quality and ease of use in a
compact, desktop design.

Designed to maximize affordability the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF offers more aggressive hardware pricing and
higher yield All-In-One print cartridges to minimize total cost of ownership.

In your efforts to place the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF remember that you can twist product positioning to match
the most pressing need of your customer. Its a network laser printer first with convenience copying…now its a
full color scanner with monochrome printing…next it can be a fax with network printing and scanning…
tomorrow it will be a copier with ID Card Copy plus cost-free electronic document distribution. The key is to
identify customers or small workgroups inside larger organizations with monochrome output needs up to 8.5"
x 14".

The Segment 2 monochrome laser MFP market is flooded with products from a number of manufacturers
available through several distribution channels. There is little functional difference between most models in
this commodity market; the occasional feature advantage like ID Card Copy, Scan-to USB, standard networking
or duplexing will present itself. But mostly the battle will be won on price and running costs (TCO). See the
Savin SP 3500SF & SP 3510SF Competitive Matrix and Brief for a review of how these models compare to
several leading competitors.

63
The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is a perfect fit for teams of outside sales or service technicians that pass through
the office between calls throughout the day as well as for field-based sales networks that need to fax or scan
their orders to the main office each evening. Given their low purchase prices and proportionate commission
you are cautioned not to spend too much time prospecting for single unit sales. Of course if the opportunity
comes up, grab it. Keep the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF in mind when implementing a Managed Document
Strategy that includes a larger mix of solutions. Their low cost and minimal maintenance design will also them
attractive to customers seeking large quantities of machines to equip fleets of remote offices.

When you find a suitable SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF prospect, asking a few basic workflow questions can confirm
your suspicions and set the stage for a meaningful discussion in which you can position the SP 3500SF/SP
3510SF to meet your customer’s stated needs. Learn as much as you can about workflow and applications
before making a product recommendation. Use these questions to begin your investigation:

Ø What type of computer hardware/network is in use at your office?

Ø How many people will share this device?

Ø What are your primary document production applications?

(File type, length, paper size, etc.)

Ø Is color output needed? (If yes then recommend another solution).

Ø What software applications are in use?

Ø What are your average output volumes? How does it break out by print, copy, and fax volume each
month?

Ø Do you need to scan multi-page originals? Are they one- or two-sided?

Ø Would you like to be able to automatically produce two-sided prints and copies?

Ø What is the maximum output size you usually require?

Ø What is the maximum paper supply on your current printer? Is it sufficient for today’s needs?

Ø Do employees ever need to convert hardcopy originals to portable digital files?

Ø Is PostScript printing a requirement?

Ø Do you communicate via fax?

Ø Do you use E-mail to communicate with clients and vendors?

Ø Are you aware of the cost savings generated by the use of Scan-to technology?

Ø Is space a concern in your office?

Ø Are you experiencing more downtime than usual? Why?

Ø How often do you need to stop printing to change toner?

Ø Are you satisfied with the speed and image quality of your current printer(s)?

Ø Do you have the expertise to troubleshoot technology/connectivity issues yourself?

Ø How would All-In-One cartridge technology help productivity in your office?

Savin SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF B&W Desktop MFP
Sales Tactics & Prospecting Tips
The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF is a general office multifunction solution that can fit just about anywhere
dependable, efficient monochrome printing, copying, faxing and color scanning is required. Use these ideas as
thought starters to jumpstart your sales efforts:

Ø Upgrade existing Savin accounts to preserve your customer base. Return to your existing Savin printer
and MFP accounts to preserve your current customer base. Keeping your accounts up to date with
refreshed Savin technology prevents the competition from encroaching on your territory.

Ø Revisit accounts where you have been unsuccessful before. Perhaps the new SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF
offers a new reason, an exciting feature, or a better price point than a solution that was rejected
before.

Ø Demonstrate the ID Card Copy mode to medical practice/laboratory staff, school libraries, and check
cashing stores.

Ø Highlight Scan-to capabilities and the cost savings realized through networked electronic document
distribution in full color.

Ø Search local government and school district web sites for new RFPs.

Ø Ask your color-dedicated counterparts for any accounts with outdated competitive single function
laser printers, faxes, and scanners.

Ø Target small businesses and workgroups. The SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF produces documents up to
1200 x 1200 dpi – quality more than sufficient for most general office applications. With true
electrophotographic laser imaging, small companies can present documents with a professional
image equal to larger competitors.

Ø Look for small workgroups inside larger corporate environments like Legal, Human Resources, and
Accounts Payable that have small clusters of employees sharing a workspace and resources with
applications up to 8.5" x 14".

Ø The Executive Suite. Ask to see the "C" level administrative assistants in large corporations. Very often
they will be equipped with their own personal devices to support the CEO, CIO, CFO, President, etc.
These users prefer not to share access to their resources with general employees.

Ø Seed/Trial Product. Having a tough time cracking an account? Propose a low risk/high reward way to
take a chance on Savin. Place a SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF on a trial basis. Ask for a single test
workgroup and a 90-day period to compare printing productivity and expenses to see if your solution
can achieve savings over current devices.

65
Ø Bundle with higher volume and/or color printers and MFPs. Use the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF as a
means to provide right-sized black & white laser multifunctionality to smaller user groups when
analyzing overall workflow needs in a large-scale opportunity. Or bundle with the SP C231SF/SP
C232SF to place a mix of low volume color and monochrome solutions throughout the organization.

Ø Suggest redeployment of existing assets. After performing a workflow analysis, it may become obvious
that several devices are not being used properly or not used to capacity. You may be able to redeploy
existing equipment in a more efficient manner or install additional capacity in a right-sized machine
only where it is really necessary.

Ø Seek out national and major account bid opportunities. National account, fleet sales, and
government bid situations calling for lower volume devices are excellent opportunities for multiple SP
3500SF/SP 3510SF placements. In addition to offering consistent operability, minimal service
requirements, and supplies across the entire fleet, you can offer to place true laser technology in every
remote office or branch location at a competitive price and speed point and backed by a national
service network.

Ø Highlight user-friendly operation, maintenance, and support. With an All-in-One toner cartridge that is
replaced in seconds, the SP 3500SF/SP 3510SF will appeal to small business customers and remote
branch offices that do not have an IT department or technology expertise on hand. In the event the
unit requires service, customers have assurance the manufacturer stands behind the product and
they are not responsible for returning the unit to an office superstore.
