Walking the Talk – A Case of Google

Does this article change your perception of Google as an

employer? How?
This article did not change my perception of Google as an employer. Google is a
well-established company with modernized facilities and it has always sought after
smart employees who are innovative and creative. Although I am a male but I think
female did not take any offense to the article. I think females would feel honored to
work for such an innovative company. Also, I gathered that Google is trying to
resolve discrimination issues between employees. The initiative to change things is a
step in the right direction

Would you agree that although Google helps to modernize

the workplace in other companies, its own workforce is old-
fashioned? Briefly explain your stance.
Google helps in modernizing the workplace of other organizations but that does
not mean that Google itself has an old-fashioned workforce. Google in the world is
known to be one of the finest organizations and at the same time, the organization
is known to have one of the finest and most advanced workforces. The workforce
of Google has diversity in them, has a multicultural attitude in them, has the
knowledge of the latest technology, application, and software, have the knowledge
of best working practices. All these points out the fact that the workforce of
Google has all the latest and modern attributes and though it does modernize other
company’s workplace but its own workforce is not at all old-fashioned.

Why older employees are often neglected or discriminated

against?
Unfortunately, older workers face a variety of discriminatory attitudes in the
workplace. I found a research where Researchers scanned more than 100
publications on age discrimination. They found that stereotypes inferred that older
workers are lower performers. Research, on the other hand, indicates they are not,
and organizations are realizing the benefits of this needed employee group.

One of the example to proof this scenario wrong I would like to share an article an
example that Dale sweere, a human resources director for engineering firm Stanley
Consultants, is one of the growing number of management professionals actively
recruiting the older workforce. Sweere says older workers "typically hit the ground
running much quicker and they fit into the organization well".

To be sure, there is no age discrimination in organizations. I think what I have

learned till now, It is the responsibility of companies to ensure that employees are
treated fairly regardless of age. Many of the techniques to limit age discrimination
come down to fundamentally sound management practices relevant for all
employees, set clear expectations for performance, deal with problems directly,
communicate with workers frequently, and follow clear policies and procedures
consistently, In particular, I think that clarity and consistency can help ensure all
employees are treated equally regardless of age.

As we have seen, older worker should also take some responsibilities for ending
age discrimination. Older employees need to stay current in their training, with
technology, and on the latest trends. Finally, individuals who are knowledgeable
about the older-workers stereotypes can show employers how that outdated
viewpoint is wrong.
