Rationale:

I have decided to make two productions, a short film, and a music video. My target audience for both of my
productions are between the ages of 40 to 60-year olds. Using this age group, it can vary from what they enjoy
watching. I have set myself the task to find out what I can make using my research and resources. I have chosen to
do a short film, because I have always been interested in making short films and I feel I can be very creative through
the storytelling especially through the cinematography.

In unit 12 I learned a lot about cinematography, and I have gained knowledge and understanding of how important
it is to tell a story, set the scene and making it memorable. In units 1-4 I was able to learn how to go by making a
short film, this included how analysing other productions are very significant in helping you through your short film,
it enables you to learn different techniques for a certain effect. I am making a music video because in unit 6-7 I had a
lot of fun filming it and enjoyed making it. I also feel that it would be interesting to make a music video for my age
group, I wanted to set myself this challenge to have fun with.

Project Concept:

For Through making a short film with no dialogue this will develop my camera skills in order to let the camera tell the
Story. Using certain camera skills for example, a close-up of a certain object or subject will help the audience
understand what is being shown in the close up is the main focus and is key in the scene, to develop the Story. So
that the audience do not miss this key point. And using long shots will enable the audience to be able to see the
surrounding, the setting and help them understand the genre of what they are watching. Having a film with no
dialogue can be really effective if it is clearly portrayed through the use of camera techniques, even close ups of
facial expressions allow the audience to know different characters how they feel, the way they are dressed is
important in understanding their personality and how they express themselves.

Through the use of camera control, I will need to be precise in focussing as this is key in making my production look
effective, Lighting will be done through a camera mounted light as this is small but is also very effective in
productions that are purposely meant to look dark and in my case in most scenes look dull, gloomy and a little sad.
For colour in my editing process, I am going to make it look dark, dull, and gloomy when the man is exploring the
abandoned world. But when there is a glimpse of hope it slowly gets lighter, brighter, and happier.

My music video will allow me to be experimental and adventurous through shots and angles because I am filming a
salsa video so throughout most of the music video there will be dancing and this will help me experiment through
filming as there are very key significant parts to salsa, the way your feet, hips and often arms are moving so I can be
creative through I decide to film them dancing. It is important to use different angles and shots from the audience to
be engaged, but also showing how fast and passionate salsa is, showing the pace through the way I film and edit my
different angles. As salsa is not boring it is passionate, fun and brings happiness so it is important I portray this
through the visual storytelling of my camera. For example: close ups of happy facial expressions, laughing, close
shots of different body parts moving and long shots of the all the Latin people dancing in the location.
Evaluation: To evaluate my production successfully, I will be writing up weekly blogs, to keep a record of
evaluating my progress after each week. Each week I will make sure I have a thoroughly detailed evaluation. This will
ensure improvement as I am using my own feedback to work better and at a higher standard. In the weekly blogs I
will evaluate my strengths and weaknesses so that I am constantly working to improve my weaknesses. Another
important topic I will mention is my specialism and how my project has helped develop certain skills to my
advantage.

To appeal to my target audience, I will be using survey monkey and focus groups as evidence in my evaluation. This
is important to see if my project can be effective towards my target age group. It is very significant that my age
group help me understand what I can do to change or progress my idea as small details are very significant in
allowing me to build a strong successful idea to fit my age groups satisfaction. Survey monkey is effective as the
answers will be more truthful due to it being anonymous and focus groups are in the moment so I can get more
detailed answers. I think it is very important to have feedback from my peers and teachers because the more
opinions, the better because it will be more effective to have feedback from my peers in my class as they are
studying the same subject as me and this will help me improve even more.
