BUMANGLAG, APRIL BERNADETTE L.

BSABE 3A

CIRCUIT SAFE LOADS

- 230 VAC, 60Hz, 1-phase

CIRCUIT 1 (LIGHTING)
- As per Philippine Electric Code (PEC), 100 Watts shall be the maximum load for each household
lighting outlet
- By direct counting, 10 outlets = 1000 Watts
- 1000 W / 230 V = 4.35 A
- The PEC provides that “Ampacity of the connected load shall not exceed 80% of the amperage
capacity of the conductor and the fuse.”
- The maximum ampacity load of a 2mm2 No. 14 AWG copper wire is 15A.
15A x 80% = 12A

Referring to the table of allowable ampacities of wires and over current protection device, the
maximum allowable load of the circuit is sufficient enough to carry the 4.35A computed load for a
maximum of 100watts per light outlet. Therefore, the use of 2.0mm2 or No. 14 is safe.

CIRCUIT 2 (FOR SMALL APPLIANCE LOAD)

- The PEC states that “ For each single receptade shall be considered at no less that 180 w rating.”
- From the Convenience Outlet Layout, there are 6 convenience receptades for small appliance load.
- 6 outlets x 2 plug (duplex) = 12 duplex outlets
- 12 x 180W = 2160 watts
- 21go watts / 230 V = 9.39A

Referring to the table of allowable ampacities of wires and overcurrent protection device,
- For 9.39A, use 2 piece s 3.55 mm2 or No. 12 TW copper wire for circuit no.2
- For the 2-No.12 TW wire, use 13 mm conduit pipe
-Under the column of fuse and breaker rating, the 20A fuse can safely carry a maximum
load of 16A. The 80% of 20A load permitted by the PEC on NO.12 circuit wire.
