Informing the population about the
health risks posed by the coronavirus
disease, as well as what they can do to
protect themselves, is the best way to
mitigate the spread and reduce the
amount of further contagion cases
A person can contract COVID-19 if:

● They come in contact with another


person infected with the virus
● Someone infected coughs or
sneezes directly to them
● They touch any surface with little
droplets from infected people’s
cough or sneezes and then touch
their eyes, nose or mouth
Droplet transmission
occurs when a person is in in close
contact (within 1 m) with someone who
has respiratory symptoms (e.g.
coughing or sneezing,)
transmission of the COVID-19 virus

by direct contact with infected people

indirect contact with surfaces in the


immediate environment or with objects
used on the infected person
Incubation Period

The time from catching the virus to the


time when a person begins having
symptoms from the infection

For COVID-19 the incubation period is


from 2 – 14 days

Most commonly, people who become


infected with the virus begin feeling ill
in about 5 days
Common Symptoms

Fever

Dry cough

Shortness of breath
Other Associated Symptoms
Feeling tired
Aches and pains throughout the body
Sore throat
Nasal congestion
Runny nose
Diarrhea (less common)
