When gathering the documents for your application, please:


- do not send us photocopies of the original documents you are sending
- do not use poly-pockets or plastic folders

- separate any bank statements that are printed on continuous feed paper into their individual pages

All Documents must be originals. Documents must also be on the official letter-headed paper or stationery of the organisation.

Where a document is not in English or Welsh, the original must be accompanied by a fully certified translation by a professional
translator/translation company.

This translation must include:


- details of the translator/translation company’s credentials, and
- confirmation that it is an accurate translation of the original document, and
- the translator/translation company’s contact details.

Please note we may ask you to provide other documents in addition to those listed below.

Next steps for your application

Collate your supporting documents together and post them with your cover sheet, within 15 working days to:

If you use Recorded or Special Delivery, this will help us to record the receipt of your document and supporting documents. Make
sure that you keep the Recorded or Special Delivery number.

If you want us to return your documents to you by a Royal Mail 'signed for' service, you must enclose a pre-paid, self-addressed
Royal Mail Special Delivery (or Recorded Signed For delivery) envelope with your application. You must included one pre-paid
envelope for every applicant included in this application.

The pre-paid envelope should be able to accommodate the size and weight of your documents, and should be insured to the
appropriate level. See the Royal Mail website for more information.

If you do not enclose a pre-paid envelope, we will return each applicant’s documents using Royal Mail 2nd class post.

What happens next?

We will write to you if any of the required supporting documents are missing or unsuitable.

Once we have received all of the required supporting documents, we will send you a biometric notification letter inviting you to
enrol your fingerprints and facial image.

We will retain your supporting documents until your application has been decided. Please note that some applications may take
longer than others to consider. Our general advice is to not make any non-urgent travel arrangements until your passport(s) or
travel document (s) are returned to you, followed by your identity card if your application is successful.
