Re: BCPD #20-7938
Dear Chief McWilliams, Sgt. Knowles, and Trooper Monroe:
Prior to today I met with State Police Investigators regarding the above-numbered
August 8, 2020 incident involving Bossier City Police Officers Eric Sproles and Charles
Bridges and the deceased, Jonathon Jefferson. The results of that investigation at that time
were shared with my office. Video from the incident was reviewed. Investigators provided
answers to questions. Since that time, I have received and reviewed the final report
containing additional information, video, and recorded statements from civilian and law
enforcement witnesses.
Based on alll evidence reviewed it is my firm opinion that no crime was committed
by either officer. The officers’ actions and the resulting consequences, including the death
of Mr. Jefferson were justified. The circumstances confronting these officers were such
that a reasonable belief existed that one or both were in imminent danger of losing life or
suffering great bodily harm, and the discharge of firearms was necessary for the prevention
of a potentially lethal threat,
If I can be of further assistance in this or any other matter, please contact my office
Sincerely, jh —
