DISTRACTIONS: WHAT ARE THEY?

Distractions take our focus away from God.
◦ Our self
◦ Others
◦ Things
◦ Disordered Belief
◦ False Dreams and Desires
◦ Noise
◦ Disordered Knowledge
◦ The Business of Someone Else
◦ Comforts/ Sin
◦ Entertainment/ technology
Forcing Order Out of the Chaos
◦ We are to work to bring things back to their original Sacred state.
◦ We do this by letting Jesus work through us in the world.
◦ We must let Jesus order ourselves first from small things to large things.
◦ It is Jesus who allows us to order things outside ourselves in the manner and amount that He sees fit.
◦ We must remove all distractions that prevent this work from being done in ourselves and in the world.
For Example: The Knowledge of all Good
and Evil
◦ We do not need to know everything all the time. We are responsible only for what God has decided we are responsible
for and nothing else.
◦ Our family removed the TVs from our house.
◦ We are slowly removing cell phones.
◦ My husband is the only person who will have access to a cell phone at the end of the year.
◦ Why? Members of the family will become aware of the world on a “need to know” basis. If we do not need to know, the
information is not our business to deal with. Each of us has a specific vocation. Now, my vocation is wife and mother. I
need to know the information needed to do this vocation to the best of my ability. I do not need to know, or worry, about
knowledge or information beyond the scope of my mission. That is someone else’s business/ vocation to be responsible
for.
◦ My husband relies on me as a support and trusted advisor. He is welcome to share concerns as they come up. This may
include informing me of situations that exists in the world. Knowledge of worldly things may be needed so that I can
properly advise Him so that He can make a proper decision on the behalf of our whole family.
