Application examples illustrate the solution of automation tasks through an interaction of several
components in the form of text, graphics and/or software modules. The application examples are
a free service by Siemens AG and/or a subsidiary of Siemens AG ("Siemens"). They are
non-binding and make no claim to completeness or functionality regarding configuration and
equipment. The application examples merely offer help with typical tasks; they do not constitute
customer-specific solutions. You yourself are responsible for the proper and safe operation of the
products in accordance with applicable regulations and must also check the function of the
respective application example and customize it for your system.
Siemens grants you the non-exclusive, non-sublicensable and non-transferable right to have the
application examples used by technically trained personnel. Any change to the application
examples is your responsibility. Sharing the application examples with third parties or copying the
application examples or excerpts thereof is permitted only in combination with your own products.
The application examples are not required to undergo the customary tests and quality inspections
of a chargeable product; they may have functional and performance defects as well as errors. It is
your responsibility to use them in such a manner that any malfunctions that may occur do not
result in property damage or injury to persons.
Disclaimer of liability
Siemens shall not assume any liability, for any legal reason whatsoever, including, without
limitation, liability for the usability, availability, completeness and freedom from defects of the
application examples as well as for related information, configuration and performance data and

Security information
Siemens provides products and solutions with Industrial Security functions that support the secure
operation of plants, systems, machines and networks.
In order to protect plants, systems, machines and networks against cyber threats, it is necessary
to implement – and continuously maintain – a holistic, state-of-the-art industrial security concept.
Siemens’ products and solutions constitute one element of such a concept.
Customers are responsible for preventing unauthorized access to their plants, systems, machines
and networks. Such systems, machines and components should only be connected to an
enterprise network or the Internet if and to the extent such a connection is necessary and only
when appropriate security measures (e.g. firewalls and/or network segmentation) are in place.
For additional information on industrial security measures that may be implemented, please visit
https://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity.
Siemens’ products and solutions undergo continuous development to make them more secure.
Siemens strongly recommends that product updates are applied as soon as they are available
and that the latest product versions are used. Use of product versions that are no longer
supported, and failure to apply the latest updates may increase customer’s exposure to cyber
threats.
To stay informed about product updates, subscribe to the Siemens Industrial Security RSS Feed

As already described in the previous chapters, data objects form the basis for data
transfer using the IEC61850 protocol. These have an extensive structure and
consist of various groups such as information, statuses, parameters, analog
values, and commands. Functions can be applied to these groups.
The following graphic depicts the correlations and functions.
Figure 2-9 Source: DIN EN 61850-7-1:2003

NOTE The datasets are assigned to the logical nodes but can also be used globally, as
demonstrated in the following exercise.
Datasets
In order that the data of the objects can be accessed, so-called data groups
(datasets) are provided. Thus, any number of data can be combined and
addressed under one single name or data group. The data groups contain
references to the data objects. In the data groups, the communication is described.
For report control, report control blocks (URCB and BRCB) are used.
Every logical node provides this function.
NOTE Siemens IEDs support dynamic datasets. The IEDs from third-party
manufacturers might not support dynamic datasets.

IP and IED_NAME
A protection relay is addressed by its IP address (input IP). The IED name of the
protection relay is used to confirm the addressing. If the parameterized name in the
input IED_NAME does not match the name of the addressed protection relay, no
communication is performed.
NOTE In some devices, this creation is not possible. Then pre-defined (static datasets)
datasets have to be used:
IEC Addresses
The IEC 61850 address of each transferred object is parameterized in a
STRING[66] input. The inputs are bundled in structures that contain the addresses

Functional Constraint
The functional constraint (FC) is a property of DATA characterizing the specific use
of them. The FC specifies the service to act on the DATA.

synchronization'. Time synchronization is used for system, logs and debug
information. All process values will get the time stamp either from IED or PLC.
After configuration, all settings have to be downloaded to the Gateway. This will
block StatCon online access for 95 seconds until Station Gateway will have
rebooted. If an NTP-server is not available for permanent synchronization, the time
should be set in online view of the Station Gateway. The button 'Time sync'
forwards the current time of the engineering station to the Station Gateway which
will apply it after the conversion to UTC.

The Following shows some excerpts from the ABB 630 series IEC 61850
Communication Protocol Manual.
The Structure on page 21 is showing the circuit breaker objects and the attributes.
Chapter 7 mentions the data model with all individual LN and objects of the ABB
device REF630 series
An ABB device name can be divided into three parts, for example:
PHL ( LN prefix ) – PTOC ( LN class ) 1 ( suffix, usually 1 )
PHL: PHL is an ABB specific prefix.
LN: Time overcurrent Name: PTOC
This LN shall be used to model the directional time overcurrent (PDOC/IEEE
device function number 67, from IEEE C37.2:1996). The Definite Time overcurrent
(also PTOC/IEEE device function number 51, from IEEE C37.2:1996) shall be
modeled by use of PTOC.1
The ABB device can be added to the project within the “External devices” panel. To
add a new device, click on “Add external IEC 61850 server device” on the toolbar.
The new external device will be shown, as a new entry inside the external devices
panel, referencing the new IEC 61850 server device.
Figure 3-3
This opens the “IEC 61850 server properties” dialog inside the properties panel for
the new created external server device.

The configuration starts with the switching devices with the logical node (LN) types,
Switch controller DAXSWI. The Data Attribute should be configured on the S7
block and then be transferred by drag & drop to the tag list of the Station Gateway.
The Object Pos with attribute “stVal” provides the switch position open or close.

A protective function has two states, these are indicated by Str for excitations and
Op for tripping. Usually the device will open the circuit breaker.

PHLPTOC 3I> 51P-1 Three-phase non-directional overcurrent protection, low stage
The logical node LLN0 provides information about the state of the device, rather
than common problems with a device, such as "Health" or "Beh" (behavior).

The two general communication parameters are IED name and TCP/IP address.
1. Retrieve the IED name and the TCP/IP address from the StatCon application.
2. Add the IED name and the TCP/IP address to the parameters “IED_Name” and
“IP” of the function block “SG_FEEDER” in the CFC Chart.

The function block needs the name of the dataset and report control blocks, used
for the buffered reporting of the messages/alarms. If the configured datasets are
not available in the device, the gateway tries to create them (dynamic datasets).
RCB (report control block) must be different as well.
NOTE The Gateway supports only one dataset. Protection devices with several
predefined datasets cannot be used and must be reconfigured.
Report Control Blocks are provided with the device configuration file. To read out
the name of the Report Control Block, the configuration file from the device can be
opened with an IED Browser.
For each dataset there is one report control block with same name.
Figure 4-1
Preconfigured datasets
NOTE The Station Gateway does not work with this configuration, because there is a
total of four datasets, but only one dataset can be configured.
Therefore, the ABB device must be reconfigured.
© Siemens AG 2020 All rights reserved
If the ABB device is configured as required, the dataset and report control block
name can be inserted in the following parameter.
Figure 4-2
All specific parameters for the communication between the protection relay and the
function block are located in input structures of the device driver blocks. The
IEC 61850 address of each transferred object is parameterized in a STRING[66]
input. The inputs are bundled in structures that contain the addresses of a definite
data type:
Table 4-1
Input structure Description
BOOL_DEF Definition of cyclic binary values
REAL_DEF Definition of cyclic real values
BS32_DEF Definition of cyclic Bitstring32 or DINT values
INT_DEF Definition of cyclic integer values
BCMD_DEF Definition of binary command objects
BMSG_DEF Definition of message/alarm objects
For each transferred object, that is defined in a STRING[66] input, the function
block contains designated outputs with status information of this object.
The objects defined in BMSG_DEF are created in the dataset for the buffered
reporting.

If the Data Attributes was added to the tag list, you can select one of the entries
and open its context by a right click. In the context menu you can choose “Copy
address to clipboard” and paste this address to your block in the S7 program.
