Integration of an ABB Protection Device in PCS 7 PowerControl

Entry-ID: 109769576, V1.1, 01/2020 3
1 Introduction

1 Introduction
With the PCS 7 PowerControl Station Gateway Option V9.0 the following
technological types are available:
• PC_FEEDER
• PC_TRAFO
• PC_SYNC
• PC_LINE

The technological types based on SIPROTEC 4 protection devices. In principle,

other IEC 61850 devices from Siemens AG or from other manufacturers can be
used. Mainly the addresses or IEC references must be adapted.

This documentation describes how to integrate a third-party device like the ABB
REF630 in PCS 7 PowerControl, based on the PC_FEEDER block.

The documentation is adapted for the following software versions:

• PCS 7 Version 9.0 SP1
• PCS 7 PowerControl Version 9.0

PCS 7 PowerControl Station Gateway

© Siemens AG 2020 All rights reserved

The station gateway for PCS 7 PowerControl integrates intelligent electronic

devices (IEDs), e.g. protection devices, into the SIMATIC PCS 7 process control
system. It is also suitable for redundant configurations and is therefore preferable
when there are increased availability requirements. With a maximum number of
128 IEDs, it can additionally connect a large number of protection devices.
The relevant data of the switchgear in the automation system is available using the
station gateway, and can be operated, monitored and archived using standard
PCS 7 functions.
During IEC 61850 MMS communication with the IEDs, the station gateway acts like
an IEC 61850 MMS client. The IEDs form the counterpart, the IEC 61850 servers.
All tags provided via IEC 61850 communication can be addressed via the station
gateway. Time stamp, value and status of the tags are transferred depending on
the configuration.
The station gateway communicates with the SIMATIC PCS 7 automation system.
Standard communication mechanisms of SIMATCI PCS 7 are used.

2.1 IEC61850 file types

An important feature of the IEC61850 standard is the engineering workflow. The
standard provides data exchange between projects and tools of different
manufacturers. Configuration files are based on the System Configuration
description Language SCL.
Following types of SCL files are distinguished:

• ICD for IED Capability Description

• IID for instantiated IED Description
• SSD for System Specification Description
• SCD for System Configuration Description
• CID for Configured IED Description
• SED for System Exchange Description

The configuration with StatCon is based on such a configuration file.

StatCon
With StatCon application the connection properties of multiple Station Gateways
can be configured and loaded to the devices. Furthermore, you can get some
online information and execute an update of the firmware or restart a device.

For further information about the connection properties, please refer to the manuals
of the Station Gateway.

Figure 2-2

NOTE Just properties settings will be downloaded to the Station Gateway. IEC 61850
client settings will not be downloaded. The IEC61850 paths must be configured
in the S7 program.

2.3 Gateway configuration via StatCon application

The configuration of all basic communication settings can be done either with the
StatCon Configuration Tool (recommended) or via Linux shell commands.
The first step is to assign the IP-address of the S7-interface. This can be done via
“Online” /” Accessible devices”. Afterwards the IP address can be used for

downloading the other settings.

The settings of the Station Gateway can be configured within the property window
of the Gateway device. The general handling of the StatCon Tool is described in
the separate StatCon manual.

2.4 Engineering of the CFC IEC 61850 application

In the program of the S7-PLC, the blocks of the SG_LINK library have to be
configured.
The block I61_LINK has to be configured once per Station Gateway/Station
Gateway pair. For every IEC 61850 device, a device driver block (SG_xxx) has to
be configured and connected to the I61_LINK block via the “CONNECT” structure.
The S7 function blocks I61_LINK is the gate to the Station Gateway for the specific
function blocks. It coordinates and executes the data exchange between the PCS7
function blocks (PC_xxx) and the Station Gateway. The inputs CONN_IDx contains
the ID of the used S7 connections.

NOTE The function block I61_LINK must be placed in the first position in the OB100
before the specific function blocks.

1. The ID for the S7 connection can be found in NetPro.

2.5 Datasets and Control Blocks

There are two data transfer principles:
• Polling or cyclic reading
• Spontaneous data transfer or reporting

Here, it is to be demonstrated how these two data transfer functions are

configured.

As already described in the previous chapters, data objects form the basis for data
transfer using the IEC61850 protocol. These have an extensive structure and
consist of various groups such as information, statuses, parameters, analog
values, and commands. Functions can be applied to these groups.
The following graphic depicts the correlations and functions.
Figure 2-9 Source: DIN EN 61850-7-1:2003
© Siemens AG 2020 All rights reserved

NOTE The datasets are assigned to the logical nodes but can also be used globally, as
demonstrated in the following exercise.

Integration of an ABB Protection Device in PCS 7 PowerControl

Entry-ID: 109769576, V1.1, 01/2020 11
2 Engineering of a Gateway application

Datasets
In order that the data of the objects can be accessed, so-called data groups
(datasets) are provided. Thus, any number of data can be combined and
addressed under one single name or data group. The data groups contain
references to the data objects. In the data groups, the communication is described.
For report control, report control blocks (URCB and BRCB) are used.
Every logical node provides this function.

There are 4 types of data groups (datasets):

• Virtual dataset: These data groups are used for cyclic reading (polling).
• Non-persistent dataset: These data groups can be created in the IED and only
exist for the duration of the current connection.
• Dynamic dataset: These data groups can be created in the IED and remain
stored in the device.
• Predefined dataset: These data groups are defined in the IEDs and cannot be
changed.

NOTE Siemens IEDs support dynamic datasets. The IEDs from third-party
manufacturers might not support dynamic datasets.

2.6 Setup of the IEC 61850 communication parameter

The driver blocks shipped with the Gateway module provide all required
parameters for the communication with the protection relays.

IP and IED_NAME
A protection relay is addressed by its IP address (input IP). The IED name of the
protection relay is used to confirm the addressing. If the parameterized name in the
input IED_NAME does not match the name of the addressed protection relay, no
communication is performed.

IEC 61850 Reporting

The Station Gateway uses the buffered/unbuffered reporting functionality of
IEC61850. This ensures that all changes of messages and alarms are received,
even if there were more than one changes of the signal in one cycle.
Another big advantage of the reporting functionality is that the timestamps
displayed in WinCC are exactly the timestamps of the IEC61850 device.
Every configured message/alarm is connected with an Alarm_8P instance, which
transfers the information to WinCC.
The function block needs the name of the dataset and report control blocks used
for the buffered reporting of the messages/alarms. If the configured datasets are
not available in the device, the gateway tries to create them (dynamic datasets). If
a redundant Station Gateway set is used, the same Dataset for both devices can
be configured.

Integration of an ABB Protection Device in PCS 7 PowerControl

Entry-ID: 109769576, V1.1, 01/2020 12
2 Engineering of a Gateway application

NOTE In some devices, this creation is not possible. Then pre-defined (static datasets)
datasets have to be used:

DATSET1: Dataset name for the first Station Gateway

BRCB1: Report control block for the dataset of the first Station Gateway
DATSET2: Dataset name for the second Station Gateway
BRCB2: Report control block for the dataset of the second Station
Gateway

The following Data types can be configured for cyclic reading:

• BOOL
• REAL
• INT
• DINT
Cyclic data comes without timestamp and is polled every cycle configured in
“SCAN_SEC”. The Station Gateway cyclically reads the objects that are addressed
in the structures BOOL_DEF, REAL_DEF, DINT_DEF and INT_DEF.

IEC Addresses
The IEC 61850 address of each transferred object is parameterized in a
STRING[66] input. The inputs are bundled in structures that contain the addresses

of a definite data type:

2.7.6 The IEC 61850 measured value

The protection functions of the device are based on electrical quantities, in

particular current and voltage. These form the basis for the protection functions.
The measured values can be transferred and displayed by means of IEC 61850
objects. Different classes are provided for that.
A measured value is transferred as a 32-bit floating point value or as a 21-bit
integer value. The display results come from the attribute “i” or “f” in the data
object.
A complete description of the measured value classes is given in the standards
IEC 61850-7-2 and IE C61850-7-4. Here, only a summary is given for better
understanding of the topic.
The most important attributes of a measured value are:

2.7.7 Processing

The measured value is usually not transferred directly. The transfer can be
controlled by means of a hysteresis. Only when the hysteresis value is exceeded is
the transfer affected.
In the object model, the following attributes are provided for that.

2.8 Referencing Instances

For retrieving data from a protection device, so called object references are used.
These references are addressing individual data or attributes of objects in the
device. Therefore, these references must be adapted to fit the objects with its
attribute in the third-party device.

Signal identification
According to IEC 61850-7-2, signal identification is built from the following parts:
Figure 2-12

LOGICAL-DEVICE (LD) – contains the information produced and consumed by a

group of domain-specific application functions; functions are defined as LOGICAL-
NODEs.
LOGICAL-NODE (LN) – contains the information produced and consumed by a
domain specific application function, for example over voltage protection or circuit
breaker.
DATA – provide means to specify typed information, for example position of a
© Siemens AG 2020 All rights reserved

switch with quality information and timestamp, contained in LOGICAL-NODEs.

Based on their functionality, a logical node contains a list of data (for example,
position) with dedicated data attributes. The data have a structure and a pre-defined
semantic.

Functional Constraint
The functional constraint (FC) is a property of DATA characterizing the specific use
of them. The FC specifies the service to act on the DATA.
An example for a real signal of circuit breaker position identification is shown in the
following screenshot.

3 Configuration of the Gateway module with

the Engineering Tool StatCon
The following chapter shows the configuration of the Gateway module with the
Engineering Tool StatCon.

3.1 Configuration of the Gateway module with StatCon

The first step is to assign the IP-address of the S7-interface. This can be done via
“Online” /” Accessible devices”. Station Gateway supports DCP, so the checkbox
on top of the accessible devices display can remain checked.
A nanobox is used as the hardware basis for the gateway. The Station Gateway is
based on an IPC227E and is listed as a 'PC_GATE' device.
"Blink" is not supported, but the Station Gateway device can be identified by its
higher MAC-address which can be found on the product ID label on the Station
Gateway itself.
In this online view the physical IP address can be adapted and used for
downloading of other subsequent settings.

The Following shows some excerpts from the ABB 630 series IEC 61850
Communication Protocol Manual.
The Structure on page 21 is showing the circuit breaker objects and the attributes.
Chapter 7 mentions the data model with all individual LN and objects of the ABB
device REF630 series

An ABB device name can be divided into three parts, for example:
PHL ( LN prefix ) – PTOC ( LN class ) 1 ( suffix, usually 1 )
PHL: PHL is an ABB specific prefix.
LN: Time overcurrent Name: PTOC
This LN shall be used to model the directional time overcurrent (PDOC/IEEE
device function number 67, from IEEE C37.2:1996). The Definite Time overcurrent
(also PTOC/IEEE device function number 51, from IEEE C37.2:1996) shall be
modeled by use of PTOC.1

4.1.1 Communication parameter

The two general communication parameters are IED name and TCP/IP address.
1. Retrieve the IED name and the TCP/IP address from the StatCon application.

2. Add the IED name and the TCP/IP address to the parameters “IED_Name” and
“IP” of the function block “SG_FEEDER” in the CFC Chart.

4.1.2 Parameters for reporting

The function block needs the name of the dataset and report control blocks, used
for the buffered reporting of the messages/alarms. If the configured datasets are
not available in the device, the gateway tries to create them (dynamic datasets).
RCB (report control block) must be different as well.

NOTE The Gateway supports only one dataset. Protection devices with several
predefined datasets cannot be used and must be reconfigured.

Report Control Blocks are provided with the device configuration file. To read out
the name of the Report Control Block, the configuration file from the device can be
opened with an IED Browser.

For each dataset there is one report control block with same name.

NOTE The Station Gateway does not work with this configuration, because there is a
total of four datasets, but only one dataset can be configured.
Therefore, the ABB device must be reconfigured.

4.1.3 Data object parameter

All specific parameters for the communication between the protection relay and the
function block are located in input structures of the device driver blocks. The
IEC 61850 address of each transferred object is parameterized in a STRING[66]
input. The inputs are bundled in structures that contain the addresses of a definite
data type:

Table 4-1
Input structure Description
BOOL_DEF Definition of cyclic binary values
REAL_DEF Definition of cyclic real values
BS32_DEF Definition of cyclic Bitstring32 or DINT values
INT_DEF Definition of cyclic integer values
BCMD_DEF Definition of binary command objects
BMSG_DEF Definition of message/alarm objects

For each transferred object, that is defined in a STRING[66] input, the function
block contains designated outputs with status information of this object.
The objects defined in BMSG_DEF are created in the dataset for the buffered
reporting.

4.2 Test of the application

The compilation of the AS and OS, as well as the download are not covered in this
documentation, since this is PCS 7 standard knowledge.

4.2.1 IED Simulation

Usually a real device for testing is not available during engineering phase.
Therefore, we make use of a simulator.
For SIMIT 10 an optional IEC 61850 channel is available.
This can be purchased by Codewerk GmbH.

4.2.3 Checking Dataset & Reporting

The StationGateway uses the buffered/unbuffered reporting functionality of

IEC 61850. This ensures that all changes of messages and alarms are received,
even if there were more than one change of the signal within one cycle.
Another big advantage of the reporting functionality is that the timestamps
displayed in WinCC are the original timestamps of the IEC 61850 device (IED).
Every configured message/alarm relates to an Alarm_8P call which transfers the
information to WinCC.
The function block needs the name of the dataset and report control blocks used
for the buffered reporting of the messages/alarms. If the configured datasets are
not available in the device, the gateway tries to create them (dynamic datasets). If
a redundant set of StationGateways is used, the same dataset for both devices can
be configured.

To check if report control blocks (RCB) are used after the configuration, check the
variables BRCB1+RepEna and BRCB2+RepEna (e.g.
DEV_CTRL/LLN0$BR$brcbA01$RptEna) with the IEC Browser. It should be “true”
or “1”. If RptEna is not “true” after 5 minutes, something is wrong with the
configuration and it must be investigated.

4.2.4 Checking the Gateway status

StationGateways provide a web interface on SIMATIC network interface (eth0) port

8080 (enter 'http://xx.xx.xx.xx:8080'). It can be accessed from a PCS 7 engineering
station or another service pc with an internet browser (currently only Google
Chrome and Firefox are supported).
The needed credentials for login are user ‘config’ and password ‘config’. These
credentials can’t be modified.
The web interface provides a view on the most important values and access to 3
log files:
• LED and extended status indication
• Configuration values (which were configured via StatCon)
• System log files
• IEC configuration (automatically generated from CFC engineering)
• IEC logging

4.2.5 Test of the WinCC Runtime

The runtime shows the block icon for the protection device.
The faceplate is not configured. The next chapter describes the settings for the
faceplate representation.
The ABB device provides the following switching devices:
1. Curcuit Breaker (CB, Q0)
2. Disconnector DS, Q1)
3. EarthSwich (ES, Q8)

4.3 Customizing the switch representation

NOTE A detailed description is available in the documentation:

SIMATIC PCS 7 PowerControl library AS Manual, chapter 6.3.1 Switch
presentation.

The switches (e.g., circuit breakers, grounding switches, disconnectors) can be

represented flexibly in the PC_FEEDER faceplate. Up to five switches can be
shown dynamically in six fields.
The representation is carried out in the form of symbols that can be combined
freely. There are an additional four fields (fields 7-10) which represent the
connecting lines between fields 1-6.
The entire configuration is made using the "FP_Visu" structure input at the
PC_FEEDER function block.
Figure 4-15
© Siemens AG 2020 All rights reserved

The symbol codes must be entered as with two digits. The figure below shows an
example of a possible icon layout with the corresponding configuration:
The following switches can be configured in PC_FEEDER:

• Q0 (e.g., circuit breakers)

• Q1 (e.g., disconnectors)
• Q2 (e.g., additional disconnectors)
• Q8 (e.g., grounding switches)
• Q9 (e.g., additional grounding switches)

Integration of an ABB Protection Device in PCS 7 PowerControl

Entry-ID: 109769576, V1.1, 01/2020 39
4 SIMATIC Manager CFC Engineering

Switches can only be represented in fields 1-6. Up to two switches can be

configured per field. The assignment of the switches to the fields is configured using
the attributes "QX_Field" and "QX_SubField" that exist for each of the five
switches. The "QX_Field" attribute describes the number of the field in which the
switch is located (possible values: 1-6). "QX_SubField" represents one of the two
"subfields" of the "QX_Field".This attribute is required to represent two switches in
one field."QX_SubField" may ONLY have the values 1 or 2. If, for example, as
shown in the figure above, the circuit breaker (Q0) and the disconnector (Q1) are
represented in field 3, the following configuration is required:
• Q0_Field = 3
• Q0_SubField = 1
• Q1_Field = 3
• Q1_SubField = 2

This means both switches are shown in field 3.

Q0 is assigned to SubField 1 (Switch 1), Q1 is assigned to SubField 2 (Switch 2).
