SOCIAL

MEDIA
A PI T C H B Y
LAU RA DALAI M O
• I chose the topic of Social Media, because I spend time online, and I see
what people upload along with some of the online bullying that people
receive. I understand how it feels for people to deal with the effects that
Social Media can cause and decided to show this to everyone.
SOCIAL MEDIA
• BRITISH YOUTH- Social Media is a common factor in everyday life
nowadays, and it is something that many people between the ages of 14-
24 (my target audience) spend time on.
WHAT DID I LEARN
FROM MY RESEARCH?

I did a lot of research before planning my own production, including watching both short
films and stop motion videos. These allowed me to get some ideas and inspiration for what I
could create myself.

I learnt many things from this, including camera angles and how to use color and props. In
my own short film, I used color too, although subtle, I learnt that it could have a slight effect.

For my Stop Motion, I researched many things, such as why Frame Rate is important, to
ensure that my film looks as clean as possible.

For my Short Film, I watched others based on the same topic, to see how they covered this
issue, and what they did to make their film look realistic.

I also researched how Social Media can harm self-esteem, looking at stories online, for
example, Molly-Mae Hague, who was trolled online by followers who criticized her weight
and appearance and what this led to.
MY IDEA’S

• I decided to make something that a lot of people between the ages of 14 and 24 in the
UK could relate to, as I know that the majority of people in this day and age have social
media accounts.
• I had two ideas for my Stop Motion, one being a character who bullies others online,
and the other being a teenager who is bullied online, I went for the second option,
because it showed the perspective of the person who is affected.
• I also had two ideas for my Short Film, one is my character being bullied and deciding to
change herself, the other was two different perspectives from the person being
tormented, and the other person who is hiding behind the screen. I chose to do the first
idea due to the lack of actors available to me, and the coronavirus restrictions.
EXAMPLES OF MY
PRODUCTIONS
HOW DID I PRODUCE THESE
PRODUCTIONS?

having the patience to move everything only editing, and the moment I realized that I
slightly. couldn’t change the exposure.
• I enjoyed making the sets as it allowed me to • I enjoyed choosing the music for my

• Overall, I think the whole production went angles.
quite well. • Overall, I am really happy with the final piece,
with a few changes, it could be even better.
FEEDBACK- STOP
MOTION
• The main feedback that I got for my Stop Motion was
that the camera can be shaky at times. I agree with this
feedback, and I had noticed this myself. If I were to do
this again, I would use a clicker, so I have minimal contact
with the camera, reducing the chance of it moving.
FEEDBACK- SHORT
FILM
• The people that responded to my survey about my Short
Film liked my use of music.
• On the other hand, I need to check my settings before
filming. As many of my scenes were over-exposed.
MOVING FORWARD
01
What have I learned?- I
have learnt the importance
of time management and
sticking to schedule’s is a

02
good idea. I have also learnt
that I need to pre-plan and
change my camera settings
to fit the day and
conditions.
What do I need to
improve?- Again, I think I
need to improve on
checking the camera and
using tripods to keep
footage steady. 03
What am I good at?– I am
good at organization, and
planning what I am going to
do, and when. I am also
good at choosing which
music should overlay which
parts of the video.
