PLOT THE SHORT STORY “THE NECKLACE” BY PROVIDING THE NEEDED DETAILS WITH THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS.
EXPOSITION The exposition of the story
introduces the protagonist, Mathilde Loisel, and her social circumstances. In the very first sentence, the narrator states that "She was one of those pretty and charming girls, born, as if by an accident of fate, into a family of clerks." In the exposition segment, the narrator elaborates on how Mathilde daydreams about a luxurious life. Mathilde's situation builds the argument of the story, how her depravity leads her to her downfall. She borrows a diamond necklace, only to lose it at a ball. She labors for a decade to pay back for the loan for the replacement necklace. She discovers at the end that the original necklace was imitation jewelry.
RSISING ACTION This is the part of the
story that leads up to the climax. This is the chain of events that is caused by the initial conflict. In this story, I think the rising action includes the invitation to the ball and Mathilde's visiting her rich friend,

It may also include her appearance and her reception at the ball. This event highlights the sharp contrast between the life Mathilde wants and the life she is later forced to live as a consequence of her selfish choices and pride CLIMAX It is also the point where the initial conflict (but not the only conflict necessarily) is resolved. This occurs when Mathilde realizes the necklace is missing. The initial conflict is over. From this point on, Mathilde no longer has a chance to blend in with high society.
FALLING ACTION It is also the point where

A more American interpretation would be to say the loose ends were all tied up. Mathilde runs into her old rich friend who still looks young and beautiful. She tells her how she worked to replace the necklace, and learns that she wasted her life for nothing, since the necklace she lost was fake

THEMES The them of the short story,
"The Necklace" is to be happy with who you are and what you have. Madame Loisel lived in the middle class society but longed to be a member of high society. She wanted to live above her means and would do whatever it took to get there.
MORAL/LESSONS The moral lesson of the
necklace story is that we should not judge people on appearances because they may appear to be rich and successful and they may not be. It also teaches us we shouldnot pine after material possessionsbut realize we are lucky with what we have
