Fall rummage sale has been set for October 15th, subject to Gloversville Housing Authority approval

Our next Tenant's Association meeting will be

on Monday, October 3rd at 6:00pm sharp in
the Community Room. All residents
(especially new tenants) are invited to attend
and meet with your neighbors, and as an
added incentive, coffee is always available at
the conclusion of the meeting.

Michigan Rummy

Michigan Rummy games will held on Sunday,

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 5:00 pm to Rummage Sale Guidelines:
8:00pm in the community room (No games on
Oct. 13th - Music Jam). • Please do not bring donations down to the Community
Room prior to October 11th.

• Place all articles in the back of the room behind the

bingo counter (do not block any fire exits).

• All clothing should be tightly secured in clear plastic

bags for at least 3 days before taking them out of your
apartment.

• No articles of clothing or other items may be brought

in from the outside. The rummage sale is for be
benefit of the residents of Kingsboro Towers as a way
for the residents to get rid of items that they no longer
need or use, while raising the funds needed for the
Tenants Association to operate.

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year. Rosh
Hashanah literally translates to the Head of the
Year. It is a two day festival. In the Bible, it is
c a l l e d Yo m H a - Z i k k a r o n , t h e d a y o f
remembrance or Yom Teruah the day of the
sounding of the shofar-(Leviticus 23:24-25).
Jews start Rosh Hashanah festivals with
lighting of the candles and synagogue prayers.
On the eve of Rosh Hashanah, Jews eat an
apple dipped in honey to signify a sweet new
year to come. They also place a fishes head at
the table to commemorate 'being a head and
not a tail'
Rosh Hashana Facts:
In synagogues it is common for 100 notes to be
sounded with a Ram's horn as a call to repentance.
Jews typically wear new clothes on Rosh Hashanah
and eat new fruits that have not yet been tasted in
the season. Customary foods include round hallah
bread with raisins, pomegranates, pumpkins,
carrots, and honey cake.
For Rosh Hashana, many Jews 'cast off their sins'
to a running water stream/sea containing fish (the
Tashlich custom). This is to symbolically purge
one's body of sin and cast the sins onto the fish.

A thank you goes out to Tootie Cronin and
everyone who help out with the coffee hour
Mon - Sat mornings. Thank you to all of the
volunteers that help make our weekly bingo
games happen. Thank you to Maggie and
everyone that help decorate our Community
Room and the lobby. Just a little note, we
would like to thank all of our volunteers no
matter what they do. We may miss you or not
have your name in the Tower Talk, but you
efforts are really appreciated. Various things
could not be accomplished without your
efforts, even when sometimes we forget to say
"Thank You".
Special Thank You
We would like to thank Joe and Maggie for all
they did during the summer with the dinners
and breakfasts which helped us bring in some
more revenue to help defray the cost for our
special events throughout the year.
Joke of the Month:
The little young lady of the house, by the way
of punishment for some minor misdemeanor,
was compelled to eat her dinner alone at a
little table in a corner of the dining room. The
rest of the family paid no attention to her
presence until they heard her audibly praying
over recent past with the words:'I thank thee,
Lord, for preparing a table before me in the
presence of mine enemies".
Alert:
Don't forget our Wednesday night bingo
games start at 6:00pm sharp in the
Community Room. We always need bingo
players (especially new people). Feel free to
come down and meet your neighbors. As a
reminder, what we make on the bingo games
helps defray the cost of the special events and
dinners.

doesn't matter whether you help a non-profit

A Few Helpful Hints: Feel Good, State of Mind
- When a large task threatens to overwhelm you, break it
down into smaller tasks. Take ten minutes each morning to
clean a book shelf, polish a piece of furniture, or clean a
glass door. Then the hour you would normally take to clean
that now can be spent relaxing without guilt.
- Cull out and give away clothing that doesn't fit and items
that you can't use. We don't need to be reminded of diets
that didn't' work or projects that didn't get finished.
- Throw a party to lift your spirits. Planning for a small
gathering can be a positive reinforcement and give you a
reason to clean the windows.
- Put lemon slices in the bath water. Hot water leaches out
the juices which cleans your skin and the bathroom smells
great for a long time.
- Bath Japanese style: First, take a hot shower to cleans
your skin. Then take a cold shower to open your pores.
Then run a hot bath, lie back and relax.

Carve a Pumpkin Day

Carve a Pumpkin Day is today. If you don't carve
a pumpkin by today, when will you get to it?
This is your last chance to carve a pumpkin
because Halloween is tonight. Pull out your
caring patterns and get down to work. If you can't
find the patterns you have leftover from last year,
there's no time to go to the store. They're
probably sold out, anyway. Just carve a pumpkin
freehand. After it's done, get your costume on
and go trick or Treating.
We believe this holiday is celebrated a little late.
It is better held a few days before, or the
weekend before. Then, you can make a pumpkin
caring party out of it. You can roast pumpkin
seeds, drink apple cider and enjoy your pumpkin
carvings. If you decide to celebrate this special

Columbus Day
Date When Celebrated : Second Monday in October
For decades and decades, American history books
and school teaching, told us Christopher Columbus
discovered America. What those books and teachings
did not give credit, to was the fact that Native
Americans were already here. Native Americans truly
discovered America. It also gave little mention, to the
fact that Nordic explorers had travelled down the
eastern cost of Canada thousands of years earlier.
Today, we celebrate Columbus Day for what it
accurately is. Columbus did discover the existence of
the New World for Europeans who until then, believed
the world was flat and ended somewhere in the
Atlantic. And, the focus is more upon discovery of the
"New World", and less upon Columbus himself.
Did You Know? Columbus Day is sometimes referred
to as "Discoverer's Day".
Some key facts (in case you forgot them since grade
school):
Columbus Discovered America in 1492. He originally
set sail on August 3, 1492, but had trouble with the
ships, stopping at the Canary Islands for a month. The
ships left the Canary Islands on September 3,1492.
He travelled with three ships: the Nina, the Pinta and
the Santa Maria.
