Opportunity Identification

By : Yash Sachdeva
Problem Identification
• Team B included Eric Green, Santiago Ocejo and Barry Wohl.
• They were all from the same background of medicine.
• From the range of projects to solve the issues of the economically disadvantaged in developing
countries, there was a requirement of low-cost inhaler.
• The standard asthma inhalers that were used prior to 2006 had a continuous puff of aerosolized
medicine that was difficult for children to handle, as they struggled to co-ordinate their breath to the
inhaler. What was needed was a low-cost chamber that would temporarily hold the medicine before
the child was able to inhale.
Possible Solution
• Looking at their background the most appropriate project to take up is the low cost
inhaler.
• The possible solution was to devise an alternative for the expensive valved chambers
within the inhalers.
• The product need to be stocked up in government clinics as 4-5 million receive health
care from there.
• Additional people who do not have government insurance might get the product in
hospitals.
