Types of Motivation
INFORMATION
About The chapter also reviews experimental work that reveals some of the conditions
under which performance goals promote intrinsic motivation, as well as
correlational work that reveals a positive association between performance goals
and academic performance.
History
There are two types of motivation, Intrinsic and Extrinsic motivation.
In Intrinsic motivation refers that the individual's motivational stimuli are coming
from within. The individual has the desire to perform a specific task.
Study of intrinsic motivation is elicited attention for content in the sense of
enjoyment, curiosity, and so forth, but no assumption can be made about the level
of content knowledge. and Extrinsic motivation refers that the individual's
motivational stimuli are coming from outside. In other words, our desires to
perform a task are controlled by an outside source.
Motivation means reason for actions, willingness, and goals and the word
motivation is derived from the word “motive” or which means satisfaction.
Mastering motivation to allow sustained and deliberate practice is central to high
levels of achievement.
Importance Motivating your students requires that you gain an understanding of the
different types of motivation. Such an understanding will enable you to better
categorize your team members and apply the appropriate type of motivation.
You will find each member different and each member's motivational needs
will be varied as well.
