Rite of the LIGHTING of

Candles of Advent Wreath
First Sunday of Advent

The Rite of the Lighting of candles of Advent Wreath will be done at the start of the
mass after the greeting.

Commentator:

Brothers and sisters, today , we open a new liturgical year. Advent, which
means “coming,” is a time of preparation for the Lord’s coming. May we
have this disposition as we start a new stage of our pilgrimage

PRAYER FOR BLESSING

Priest:

Lord our God, we praise you for your Son, Jesus Christ:
He is Emmanuel , the hope of the peoples , he is the wisdom
that teaches and guides us, he is the savior of every nation.

Lord God , let your blessing come upon us as we light the

candles of this wreath . May the wreath and its lights be a
sign of Christ’s promise to bring us salvation. May He come
quickly and not delay . We ask this through Christ our
Lord.
