FACTORING GENERAL TRINOMIAL (a x 2 +bx+ c) WHERE A = 1.
LEARNING COMPETENCY: Factor completely different types of polynomials
(polynomials with common monomial factors, difference of two squares, sum and
difference of two cubes, perfect square trinomials, and general trinomials).

OBJECTIVE: Find the factors of general trinomial (a x 2 +bx+ c) where a = 1.

Examples

1. x 2+ 10 x +21 Look for factors of 21 such that, when you add them, the sum is
10.
21=7 ∙ 3 10=7+3

2. x 2−11 x+ 30 Look for factors of 30 that, when you add together, gives the
sum of -11.
30=5∙ 6 −11=−5+(−6)

3. x 2−12 x+32 Look for factors of 32 that, when you add together, gives the
sum of -12.
