Nowadays we can find electronic music (E-MUSIC) in so different kind of contexts, as backing track

in the news, making atmosphere to runway’s shows, and mixed with all sort of music genres.

¿what do have in common bands like rammstein, pink Floyd, and daft punk? yes, electronic roots.
Let’s see.

To discriminate what is E-music, we have to make the comparison with acoustic sounds, which are
all kind of sounds that are made with physical instruments. Instead of that, electronic frequencies
emerge from electronic devices, and they cannot be heard without an amplifier.

We need to make clear that what people usually understand when electronic music is mentioned,
is not what it was in its beginning

The first wave of electronic music has its start with the creation of instruments that allow the
edition of electronic signals, in the last century. Some of them are the phonoautographer, the
electroharmonium; wich is a sort of piano that send signals by phone cables and the phonograph
made by Edison. These instruments did not have an important recognition until some years after
with the help from artists.

With the technology advances those instruments inspire the first pure electronic instruments, like
the Theremin and martinet waves, wich produce sounds by altering electromagnetic waves. The
first pieces were only of academic use and nothing like commercial use.

Although there were electronic instruments, they were not popular and not so many could hear
that electronic creations, until this point that electronic music is known by conceptual electronic
music. A new device made the spreading easier in the 1920 decade, the tape recorder, with this,
all the sounds that had been being created could be recorded and reproduced the times that the
listener wants. With the tape recorder the practice of sampling was born, wich is make a loop of a
part of the song and play it over and over again. This is the beginning of concrete electronic music,
more similar to what currently we hear.

The song, Pop Corn Greshon Kingsley, composed in the late sixties, is considered by many as the
first electronic dance music.

With the low cost of the synthesizers, pianos that allows sound edition, bands that used to play
jazz, rock, funk saw in the electronic sound a new opportunity to diversify their way of compose
their styles. Here we can find bands like Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk.

The electronic dance music defined completely its style with the song I feel love, made by Giorgio
Moroder and Donna summer, in 1977, wich is the first global hit of this style of music. This song
already includes rhythm boxes and drum racks, machines that facilitate drums to the songs.

Since here, artists like Frenkie Knucles, with the sampling technique originate what is known as
House Music, in the Chicago City. Some years after the Techno with artists like Juan Atkins and
Kevin Sanderson in Detroit City.
In the nineties all this music reached its highest fame, the rave parties began to be so popular, in
contrast with its beginning, and the music E-parties was mixed with the consume of psychoactive
substances, which enhanced the experience of their fans.

The trance style begins in this decade and easily became popular among house and techno heads.
The unmistakable song Insomnia is from this era . Also in this lapse is that scenes from cities like
London, Ibiza and Amsterdam consolidate their domain respect to E music.

Other styles come from techno and house, but their structure is similar, sequenced drums and
sound edited by synthesizer.

In the new millennium with the computers, whoever who wants, can create his own kind of E
music, programs are easier of handling and the costs are more affordable than other ages. Genres
like Regueton could be considered like E – music because it responses to all the requirements to
be E – music but , it obeys to other context that does not have to do too much with the roots of
this iconic genre.
