average costs, and on the customer’s perceived value of the product in comparison to his or her

perceived value of the competing products. Our gas will be the cheapest gas in town. You can

save up to $8.00 on purchasing of our gas.

Total Service Station, University of Technology (UTECH) Main Campus will have a few

competitors in surrounding areas. These competitors include Texaco Gas Station– Papine

Square, Shell Gas Station – Liguanue, Texaco Gas Station – Matildas Corner, and Total Service

Station – Matildas Corner, The main competitor however will be Texaco Gas Station Papine

Square as it is located nearest to UTECH Main Campus. They have an advantage as their

location being in Papine Square will allow some of the target market (UTECH students, staff,

visitors who drives) to get their gas before they enter the school premises. However, Texaco

Papine Square is not a big treat as Total Service Station being on the UTECH grounds will create

ease and direct access to serve its target market. The Total Service Station also will have another

advantage over its competitors; this is its lower prices.

The market share of the service station industry in Jamaica is combined of a few large sellers.

Government figures show that the three major multinational oil companies in Jamaica includes

Total, Chevron, and Shell which have a combined market share of seventy two percentages

(72%) of the Jamaica petroleum retail industry. With Total Service Station – UTECH Main

Campus a franchise of the Total Family proposed start, the market shares of Total Group and

altogether the leading multinational oil companies in Jamaica are bound to increase.
