1. Objective

1. To establish standard engineering preventive maintenance

procedure to determine earthing resistance of the transformers in
GSP.

2. To measure the earthing resistance of all the transformers in GSP to

ensure the safety of the machine is not jeopardized.

LV: Low voltage
HV: High voltage
: Ohm (resistance value)

5 Responsibilities

ECI technician is responsible to carry out the job.

ECI Supervisor is responsible to verify the data collected after the

job and highlight to the ECI Engineer if there is discrepancies

ECI Engineer is responsible to validate the collected data and

initiate action if required.

7 Procedure
1. Identify the location for earth point for HV side
2. Locate a point 5 meter from the transformer earth point.
3. Punch in a steel earth spike to the ground at that point.
4. Clip the yellow lead to the spike and tighten on P point.
5. Locate a pt 5 meter from P pt (3 pts must in straight line)
6. Clip the red lead to the spike and tighten on C point.
7. Clip the green lead to the earth point & tighten on E point
8. Make sure the selector switch in B position.
9. Depress the push button. Ensure the pointer reach the blue mark.
10.Make sure the selector switch in V position to do system earth
voltage measurement.
11. Read the value of EV(HV) and record it (Don’t push the push
any button)
12. Make sure the selector switch in  position to do system earth
resistance measurement
13. Depress the push button and balance the galvanometer at the
center mark “” by turning the dial scale.
14. Read the value on dial scale (HV) in 
15. Do the same steps from 1 to 14 for Transformer LV side
16. Read the value of EV(LV) and record it (Don’t push the push
button)
17. Read the value on dial scale (LV) in 
