PERSONAL MONTAGE:
"STOP THAT STIGMA: NO MONEY ON ARTS"

Arts is seen by many as hobby or something for rich people to collect. It is rarely seen as a
form of expression that could be worth "paying" for, since it does not cure diseases and build
houses. A lot would say it does not pay your rent, bills or the food you essentially need.

"You could've done great in Medicine."

"It would lead you to a richer life if you actually worked for finance or sciences."
"You're a smart kid. Why Arts?"

It is still unbelievable for me that degrading arts is still a thing in the 21st century. I won't
degrade technical/academe careers because of its essentiality to humans more importantly to
technology and civilization. It makes me realize how people don't actually pay much attention to
arts compared to "expert" careers.

What's actually cliché is that they don't see that arts make more money now than ever.
Technology and arts are combined to make more profit out of a product. Advertisements are
everywhere. Billboards have designs. Buildings are designed by architects. Posters are edited.
Animations are made and produced. Music is a never-ending trend. More musicians are showing up.
Movies and series are written by content writers and directed and produced for personal
attainments and the audience's interests. Art commissions by the youth are everywhere scattered
in the internet. It pretty much makes a sum of money.

I have friends who are artists and making a living out of their works. They left their
corporate jobs to pursue arts full time. I also have friends who are music majors. I don't see them
struggling most of the time and they seem to handle their lives well.

I was originally a STEM student aspired to be a veterinarian or cardiologist, planned to

pursue Arts and Design Track, but did not have the opportunity so I am now taking Humanities and
Social Sciences. Overall my journey, I did not regret my decisions for aside being a student, I am
now a freelance musician with 3 chorale groups to handle. One of them is from PUP. I have clients to
tutor music to and digital art commissions to do. I also arrange musical pieces and do gigs at times. I
don't make a living out of it but I can earn and manage some money.

Another thing about arts is that it's also an essential thing in life. You don't just give it out
for free. I mean, it depends on the artist if they want to be paid or share it for free. Art is a way of
expression. You give effort to it. You can't actually be happy about a thing if you're not passionate
about it. It is also used in therapies to help people in need of it. I've seen music therapy to calm a
child in a surgery where she must stay awake. It is important to understand how art is as important
as "expert" jobs.

You see, art is everywhere and you can never change the fact that it helps. Whether it be in
passion, financial, emotions, relationships, leisure, and creativeness, it will always be there to
contribute everything it is. For an artist to give his/her best effort for everything she does, they
deserve a raise and get paid at their own rate.
