ZAYED MILITARY CITY, SSSB7/BDE-HQ/B6

SUBJECT: DRONE TEST

The equipment listed right below were tested to check its performance and see if it fits to the requirements of its
job.

MAVIC 2 PRO OVERVIEW

The DJI Mavic 2 Pro is one of the best small drone on the market, with superior image and video quality that
gives superlative 4K resolution, obstacle avoidance system that include more than 8 sensors around it, and
excellent battery life that gives the experience of 31 minutes of flight time (no wind) and flight distance of 9
kilometers (no wind).

DJI SMART CONTROLLER OVERVIEW

The DJI Smart Controller is designed to maximize your outdoor flying experience with the Mavic 2 or other
aircraft equipped with OcuSync 2.0. A 5.5-inch built-in screen displays clear, bright images, even under
challenging conditions. Intuitive controls and pre-installed features like SkyTalk and the DJI GO 4 app get you
up in the air quicker, clearer, and more conveniently than ever before.

Compatible with the Mavic Air 2, Mavic 2 Zoom, Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Enterprise Series, Phantom 4 Pro
V2.0. Controller gives a good interface interaction that makes easier to prepare, setup and deploy the drone.
It has a good battery life that gives a flight operation of 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Controller includes Wifi, Bluetooth, HDMI output, sharing media to Android and IOS operative systems, USB
port to transfer data or 4G dongle among other features.

ALIENTECH PRO OVERVIEW

Alientech Pro 5.8G Booster is an unfrequented, active directional antenna with two power amplifiers for a
range extender, applicable to the 5.725Ghz-5.800Ghz frequency band. With a comprehensive transmission
gain of 30-36dBi, a receiving gain of 25-30dB and a dual-polarization of Vertical and horizontal, it can
enhance wireless signal strength, lengthen the transmission distance and stabilize signal reception, and it
supports Wifi and OcuSync Protocol.

Compatible with Spark Mavic Mini (FCC mode) / Air / Air 2 / Pro 2 / Zoom /  Enterprise, Phantom 4 Pro / V2.0
/ RTK, Inspire 1 2 Pro, Matrice 100 / 200 / 600 Pro, Smart remote controller, DJI drones.

The signal enhancement function, high gain, and concentration of limited signals in the front section of the
antenna and their directional transmission have effectively improved the flight and image transmission
distance of drones, making the flight safer.

ASSEMBLE

The Mavic 2 Pro and the Smart Controller were assembled and updated to last version that DJI provides.
Updated was perform using its software named DJI Assistant 2 For Mavic. The updates can be downloaded
using the Smart Controller (to update firmware controller) and the application DJI GO 4 (to update drones’
firmware), but the quickest and safeties way to do it is using its Software. Both of them most be updated to
the last firmware to avoid any issue regarding its performance connection.

The Alientech Pro 5.8G Booster couldn’t be attached to the Smart Controller, because the wrong piece
arrived, which is used to assembly to the DJI Mavic Air 2 controller. The right modificated piece for the Smart
Controller is named “ALIENTECH PRO Case & Cable Kit of DJI Mavic 2 Smart Controller for Signal booster
Range extender”. This item can be found on providers website.

The Alientech Booster have to be carefully assembled to the controller. The small manual instruction given
for this item doesn’t specify or illustrate how to do the installation, but on their website refers how to
assemble on their Youtube channel “Alientech Booster”.

TEST

Basic Test
Linking Smart Controller to

Drone

Basic stationary maneuvers

Motor start/stop, Take off, Land, Yawing, Rolling = No issue
(Low Altitude)

Return To Home (RTH) No issue. Lands very close from the home point, it’s about centimeters.

Hover with wind Keep its position (be aware of maximum wind)

Fisrt Person View (FPV) and

No issue, nice and smoothly.

Rural sector, Moderate wind
Altitude 60 m (192 ft)

Range of distance 8 km

GPS signal Strong signal (5 bars), quick response

Control signal Good signal (3 bars) with delays

Video signal Poor signal (1 bar) with strong delays and noise

Battery status Decreased 46% of the battery

RTH Well executed, No issue

Total Flight distance 16 km

The signal strength:

 5 bars = Strong
 4 bars = Excellent
 3 = Good
 2 = Fair
 1 = Poor

The flight was done in Rural area at the time the weather conditions were sky clear and low wind presence. At
maximum range of flight, drone reported 8 km with 60 m of altitude its status decreased while it was reaching its
maximum range. In this test the signal strength of Control and Video were affected, giving delays in its transmission
and control response.

At the way back the presence of wind increased and the afford to return was bigger. Information of the drone’s
status, It shows at the status bar on DJI GO app. Drone returned and landed safely with low battery.

Drone’s maximum range of 8km and total flight distance of 16km.

In this flight test the Alientech 5.8 booster antenna, because of a missing piece to attach it to the Smart Controller.

PROS

 Quick and easy to assemble the drone.

 Drone’s camera can take videos and photos with nice resolution.
 Drone’s camera can be configurated.
 Smart Controller has a friendly interface and uncomplicated usage for the operator.
 Can use offline maps, if it was downloaded previously.
 Updates can be perform using a software or from the DJI app.
 Drone 3 speed flight modes (Tripod=slow, Position=normal, Sport=fast).
 Smart Controller has a good performance and light-weight which is better than the standard controller.
 Alientech Booster Antenna removable and easy to attach to the Smart Controller (When the modificated
piece is already installed).

CONS

 You cannot use the control and the drone without a DJI account.
 Requires internet connection to use it the first time.
 Updating processes are slow. It takes more than 30 minutes (depending on the internet speed and
straight signal, it can take much time).
 Updating the firmware using the controller, it generates many crashes, making impossible to update.
 VLOS flight.

CONCLUSION

DJI equipment offers nice drone’s performance and gadgets which make the drone reliable. Mavic 2 Pro was
released on August 23 of 2018, actually in 2020, Mavic 2 Pro continues in the top highly seller as one of the best
drones, keeping it with firmware updates.

The equipment listed for the test, it enhances drone’s functionality, telemetry data and FPV transmission. Making it
a good choose for the job goal of preference.

As it was said before taking the pros and cons, drone’s performance changes depending on the surrounding
obstacles of the area, like high building, communication antennas of any kind, power towers and so on, that affects
and decreases its performance.
