Greetings Hawks family! In Social Studies class, we just finished the
thirteen colonies. Our Hawks students who are in my Social Studies Githens Middle School
class participated in a pilot program called Synch Blast in which we (919) 560-3966
explored our Social Studies curriculum in an engaging digital
platform. I was recommended by our Social Studies District Chair to
pilot this program for a month to try out a new digital resource which
incorporates literacy and writing within Social Studies.
We are currently working on the American Revolution. After
reviewing the American Revolution, we will move to American
founding documents and the structure of American government. Our
upcoming unit 3 will explore U.S. expansion and reform which will
include topics such as Jacksonian Democracy, War of 1812, Manifest
Destiny, Westward Expansion and the Trial of Tears. On my website,
you will find resources for the topics we are studying as well as a
homework page. Please continue to monitor PowerSchool to keep up
with student grades. Grades are updated weekly on Thursday. If you
have any concerns please contact me through email. Stay safe.
Math with Mr. Fields

evolution and move on to ecosystems. These two units are the biggest units we have in 8 th and we will be
reviewing and moving forward at the same time to keep us fresh. See the syllabus on the Canvas page for
grading and content information
Canvas is where the assignments are but Powerschool is the best resource to track completion and grading.
If you have any questions of concerns as we continue working in the virtual environment.
