ABSTRACT

This study determined the teaching skills and performance


of teachers in relation to academic achievement of grade 9
students of the Secondary Schools in the Division of Bago.
Findings of the study were as follows: 1. The level of
teaching skills of Grade 9 teachers when they are taken as
a whole has a mean of 4.46 which was interpreted as Very
Highly Effective. When grouped according to specific
teaching skills, the means were as follows: 1. The Grade 9
teachers have a very high teaching skills when taken as a
whole. When grouped according to specific teaching skills,
they have very high teaching skills in instructional
skills, classroom management, value integration, and
professional competence. 2. The Grade 9 teachers have an
outstanding teaching performance when taken as a whole.
When grouped according to components of teaching
performance, they are outstanding in teaching learning
process, student outcome, and plus factor. Meanwhile, they
have a very satisfactory performance in terms of community
involvement and professional growth and development. 3. The
Academic Achievement of Grade 9 students was satisfactory.
4. There is no significant relationship between teaching
performance and teaching skills of teachers. 5. There is no
significant relationship between the teaching skills of the
teachers and academic achievement of the students. 6. There
is a significant relationship between the teaching
performance of teachers and the academic achievement of
students.
