How To Make Money On Fiverr

Fiverr is one of the world’s largest online marketplaces for freelance services. It connects sellers
to buyers from all over the world, thus creating opportunities that never existed before the
internet age.

The services o ered on this digital platform include article writing, video editing, WordPress
website set up, social media marketing, etc. As you can see these are mainly services that don’t
require a physical presence.

The Fiverr platform is currently available in the English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch
languages. I am currently not aware of any plans by Fiverr to add more languages.

The services provided on the platform are called “gigs” which Fiverr has registered as a
trademark.

How does Fiverr make money?

Fiverr makes its money from service and transaction fees from services provided on the
platform.

In 2018 the company had revenues of $75.5 million and a net loss of $35 million.

When was Fiverr formed?

Fiverr was formed in 2010 and is currently headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel. It is the brainchild
of two Israeli entrepreneurs; Shai Wininger and Micha Kaufman.

It is listed on the New York Stock Exchange which it joined in 2019.

What if the origin of the name Fiverr?

Fiverr derives its name from the fact that in the early days the tasks were charged at $5.
Nowadays the sellers are allowed to charge much more than $5.

How does Fiverr work?

On Fiverr, buyers of services pay for their orders in advance. After the task is completed and
delivered to the buyer by the seller, the seller keeps 80% and Fiverr gets to keep the remaining
20%.

How to start selling your services on Fiverr

1. Register an account
The rst thing that you need to do is to register for an account. In this process, you provide
details about yourself.

To create an account as seller you need to do the following:

On the homepage click on “Become a seller” as shown below.

On the next page click “Become a Seller”.

Enter your email address and then click continue. There also options to use your Facebook
or Google connect.
Then you provide your username and then a password and click Join.
Fiverr then sends a con rmation email and once you click on it then you are ready to go to
the next step.

2. Seller pro le creation

After registering your account then you go for one of the most important things if you are to be
successful in attracting customers i.e. the creation of your pro le.
This is important because your pro le is one of the rst things that people see when they
search for gigs. You, therefore, need to create a good rst impression.

Take care in choosing the images and the words you use as it can mean the di erence between
being ignored or being hired. Be a bit more creative in the picture that you put on your pro le
to attract more potential buyers.

3. Gig creation
This is the time to create speci c o ers of work you can do for your hirers. My advice is to
provide as much information as you can about your services.

Write in such a way that is honest but also attractive and compelling enough that people are
persuaded to buy your gig.

After you are done then you need to add your charges. In setting your charges you rst need to
review the prices that your competitors are charging rst.

You do not necessarily have to charge your gig at $5 as sometimes people may rather opt for a
more premium price. Quality services will always be a little more expensive than the average.

Ways To Make Money on Fiverr

1. Doing voice-overs
There are so many people looking for people to do voice-overs for their videos on Fiverr. This is,
therefore, an area where anyone with a clear and good voice can venture in.
Even if you don’t think that you have a nice voice this is something that the majority of people
can easily train themselves.

Many of the people ordering this service are generally looking for native speakers of English,
Spanish and Portuguese.

In English, the most popular accents are American English and British English. Even though this
is the case there is still room for other English speaking people.

There is a sizable number of people that won’t mind your accent as long as you are able to
express yourself clearly.

For this service, you can make between $5 to as high as $500 per gig. It all depends on the
amount of work involved.

2. Video Editing
More and more people are also looking for people to edit their videos. I personally have various
videos that I would appreciate if someone o ered to edit them for me.

Therefore if you are experienced in video editing this is another area that can bring you extra
money. Buyers are looking for video editing services such as subtitles, animations, etc.
I have seen sellers charging anywhere from $5 to $100 a gig. So if you are comfortable with
adding graphics etc to videos you can excel on Fiverr.

3. Website development
This is another popular gig on Fiverr. Most of the buyers here are looking for mainly WordPress
website developments.

WordPress is the most popular content management system for serious website or blog owners.
Therefore if you want to make more money you need to consider o ering gigs targetting
WordPress.

If you are good at this you can make up to $1,000 depending on the work required.

4. Keyword research
Most bloggers are looking for easy to rank in search engine keywords for their blogs.
Unfortunately, most keyword research tools are a bit pricey.

This, therefore, creates an opportunity for people with subscriptions with services such as
Ahrefs Keywords Explorer, Moz Keyword Explorer, Soovle, Jaaxy, etc.
If you have access to these tools then you can easily make money for work that takes a few
minutes using these tools. It is probably the easiest gig you can ever create.

5. Translation services.
There are so many buyers on Fiverr who are looking for sellers who can translate their
documents or articles. If you, therefore, know languages such as French, Portuguese and
Spanish then you can put your language skills to good use on Fiverr.

Besides translation services, you can also o er to teach people some languages as well for a
decent fee.

6. Social Media marketing

Billions of people all over the world are using various social media platforms such as Facebook,
Pinterest, Twitter, etc. This presents a new platform for sellers to market their products.

It is in this sense that more and more companies, sole traders and associations are looking to
improve their social media presence. This is because over the past few years more and more
people are participating in Facebook, Pinterest and other social media sites.

Business goes where people meet and nowadays people interact on social media more and
more and that is where businesses are now going.

This, therefore, presents an opportunity for social media expert to help improve business’s
presence on social media.

7. Creating illustrations
There are so many people out there who are looking for people who can help them with
illustrations. These people are all over Fiverr looking for illustrators to hire.

If you are good at drawing comics etc then you can take advantage of this need by o ering
unique services that others are not o ering currently.

This is not yet a saturated market and therefore can easily be entered by those willing to o er
their unique capabilities.

Gigs on illustrations can range from $10 to over $300 per gig.

8.Virtual Assistant
According to Investopedia, “a virtual assistant is an independent contractor who provides
administrative services to clients while operating outside of the client’s o ce… typically from a
home o ce”.

More and more entrepreneurs are now hiring virtual assistants from all over the world to assist
them with tasks such as data entry. I know of bloggers in America who hire virtual assistants
from places such as the Phillipines.

This, therefore, presents an opportunity for people all over the world to be engaged by
recruiters from all over the world.

If you, therefore, can do basic duties like writing articles, keyword research, etc you can o er
yourself on Fiverr and can get recruited from buyers from all over the world.

Tips to help you succeed as a Fiver seller

1. Create a good pro le
One of the most important things that you need to do to succeed is to create a very good pro le.
You need to take your time on this to make sure that you give a good rst impression about
yourself.

I have heard of sellers who experience a huge increase in orders by simply changing their
pro le picture.

2. Create unique gigs.

This is another thing that can di erentiate you from everyone else. If you are just starting out
on Fiverr you many need to o er something unique.

Target the things that other people are not o ering as this prevents you from having to compete
with thousands of other sellers.

Another advantage of doing this is that you can also easily charge a higher fee than your
colleagues.

3. Use SEO in writing your gig o ers

Fiverr has a search box for buyers to search for gigs. In order to stand a better chance of
ranking in Fiverr, you needed to take this into account when creating your gig.

You need to think of the words that people will type on Fiverr and on google as Fiverr gigs also
appear in search engines. Sprinkle these words throughout your gig description.

This will help you to get more people to visit your gigs as you will rank higher up in the search
results of both Fiverr and google, etc.

4. Take advantage of upsells

 This is perhaps one of the best ways to make more money. In your gigs o er your customers
more o ers for an extra fee.

This is how many sellers are killing it on Fiverr and you should not be left behind. Don’t leave
money on the table as they say.

People who have already bought your gig are more likely to hire you than anybody else for more
work on their order.

5. Focus on what you know best

In creating gigs it is best to focus on things that you are very conversant with. If you are good at
creating illustrations then create gigs on that.

It makes no sense for you to create a video editing gig if you are not good at video editing. This
helps in making sure that you o er quality services to your buyers.

Fiverr has a customer rating system and if you o er poor services even your ranking in Fiverr
search results will go down.
