Test II. Essay

a. Explain Saturation
Saturation is the state of the atmosphere in which the air holds the highest volume of water vapour that it can
sustain at a given temperature and at an air pressure. At saturation: the relative humidity is 100 per cent, the
temperature and the dew point are equal, the water evaporation ceases.

b. Explain adiabatic process

In thermodynamics, the adiabatic process is a type of thermodynamic process that occurs without the transfer
of heat or mass between the system and its surroundings. In comparison to an isothermal process, the adiabatic
process only passes energy to the atmosphere as work.

c. Explain cloud formation

Clouds are produced when water vapour, an invisible substance, is converted into liquid water droplets. These
water droplets are produced on tiny objects, like pollen, that are floating in the air. Clouds form when the
humid, warm rising air cools and expands in the atmosphere. Water vapour in the air condenses to form tiny
water droplets that form the basis of clouds.
