To Whom It May Concern:
In the winter term of 2020, due to global events, Kylie Higgs completed an adapted, online EDUC 465
course. This course was designed with the intention of providing teaching opportunities within an online
environment and ran for four consecutive weeks. In lieu of a Partner Teacher narrative assessment
which is unavailable due to the COVID 19 pandemic, please accept this letter from the Undergraduate
Programs in Education with the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary.
The assigned tasks and the structure of this course aimed to align with the Alberta Teaching Quality
Standard (2019) through building emergent competencies in lesson planning and delivery, seeking out
Indigenous resources, differentiating instruction for diverse students, and optimizing inclusive teaching
in online environments.
Kylie Higgs participated in online class discussions and was tasked with delivering innovative online
lessons to both small and large groups of students. They provided targeted feedback to improve the
pedagogy of other students, and designed effective instructional resources aligned with the Alberta
Program of Studies in their Specialization area.
Through earning credit in this course, Kylie Higgs gained valuable and unique competencies in digital
instruction. They ran synchronous classes through the Zoom platform, developed personalized online
resources, and collaborated with other pre‐service teachers to understand and enact key digital
literacies.
