Synthesis Paper

Popular Literature is literature that is enjoyed by a large mass of people; a literature that lots of
people are reading. The importance of Popular Literature is that it encourages people to read.

Romance novels are probably the most popular genre for Pop Lit. Readers are also fond of their
favorite authors within this genre. There are also subgenres under Romance which includes paranormal and
historical. Take for example, Jenny Han's young adult romance novel entitled, "To All the Boys I've Loved
before". This novel captured the hearts of several youngsters and people in their early twenties. Another
one is "The Fault in our Stars", a novel by John Green. This was not just a simple love story, it was an
inspiring book because it showed that we should always try and live to the full. Live everyday as if it's your
last.

Science Fiction often happens in a dystopian past or future. They can also be in a historical setting
but it deals mostly with technological and scientific advancement. Sample stories for this are the "Divergent
trilogy" by novelist Veronica Roth, a series of young adult dystopian novel set in a Divergent universe, and
we also have the "Maze Runner" a science fiction novel written by James Dashner. It is a fast-paced
adventure in a very dark and pretty violent post-apocalyptic world.

Detective Story starts with an exciting hook that keeps readers interested and had suspenseful
pacing and often ends with fine and contented conclusion. Its subgenres include cozy mysteries, true crime
novels and hardboiled detective stories. One example for this is John Grisham's novel entitled, "The Client"
which is a fast-paced legal thriller. It is about a boy whose life is endangered after he stumbles across vital
information about a politician's murder. His lawyer is the only person offering protection from the unwanted
attentions of the Mob and the FBI.

Comic Strips are a sequence of drawings, series of adjacent images, arranged horizontally, and are
designed to be read in a chronological sequence. It is printed in a magazine, newspaper, or a book. Examples
are "Tarzan" by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The comic strip has often borrowed plots and characters from the
Burroughs Tarzan books. Another example is "Popeye" created by Elzie Crisler Segar.

Comic Books are also called Comic magazine. The comics can inform, persuade, and encourage
new behaviors in readers. There are different types of comics such as Superhero, Fantasy, Horror, and
others. Famous examples we have, "X-Men" which is a comic book that consistently shows a creative team
at the top of their game. Another one is the "New Avengers". Brian Michael Bendis changed the Avengers
forever. He has taken the Avengers to new heights of popularity.

Reading Popular Literature exercises and expands our imagination as readers. From broad,
sweeping concepts, like love or death, to more particular ideas, like coming of age or good vs. evil, Pop Lit
covers a wide range of the most common themes and the books that explore them. Most of us enjoy a good
read and reading takes us to great adventures. Popular Literature is one hell of a joy ride.
