Hydrotest Pressure Test Stress Calculation

D = Inside Dia of Shell/Head R = Inside Radius of Shell/Head

h = Inside Head depath of Ellipsoidal head C = Corrosion Allowance
t = THK of Shell t = THK of Dished End
E = Joint Efficiency for Shell / Dished End T = Design Temperature = 1000C
Material Of Construction = SA 516 GR 70
Sy = Yield stress at Test temperature = 2671.670 kg/cm^2
Sa = Allow. Stress at Test temperature (0.9*Sy) = 2404.503 kg/cm^2
S = Allow. Stress at Design temperature of 100 0C = 1406.140 kg/cm^3
K = factor in the formulas for ellipsoidal heads depending on the head proportion D/ 2h

Components of Item No. 142-D1 & D2 are made from MOC of SA 516 GR 70.
Allowable stress for MOC SA 516 GR 70 upto 2500C is 138 Mpa (i.e. 1407.17 kg/cm2)
Therefore,
The lowest ratio of the stress value S for the test temperature to the stress value S for the design temperature = 1

1) Hydrotest pressure for 142-D1 as per UG99(b) (Note-34) in Vertical position,

= 1.3*Design Pressure*Sa/s = 1.3*47.6*1 = 61.88 kg/cm^2 (g)
Therefore, Hydrotest pressure in shop in Horizontal position including static head,
= 61.88 kg/cm^2 (g) + 0.537 (Static Head) kg/cm^2 (g) = 62.417 kg/cm^2 (g)

2) Hydrotest pressure for 142-D2 as per UG99(b) (Note-34) in Vertical position,

= 1.3*Design Pressure*Sa/s = 1.3*46.6*1 = 60.58 kg/cm^2 (g)
Therefore, Hydrotest pressure in shop in Horizontal position including static head,
= 60.58 kg/cm^2 (g) + 0.395 (Static Head) kg/cm^2 (g) = 60.975 kg/cm^2 (g)

Actual stress at given Hydrotest pressure and thickness in corroded condition for Dished End [Sact]:

Sact = (P*(Kcor*D+0.2*t))/(2*E*t)

Actual stress at given Hydrotest pressure and thickness in corroded condition for Shell [Sact]:

Sact = (P*(R+0.6*t))/(E*t)
