NSTP/National Service Training Program
NSTP/National Service Training Program
-A program established which aims to enhance civil consciousness and defense preparedness in the
youth by developing ethics of services and patriotism while undergoing training under its three program
components.
-The nstp was made part of the curriculum to motivate, train, organized and mobilized youth in military
training, literacy, civic welfare and other similar endeavours in the service of the nation.
•2001- Republic Act of 9163 or the NSTP act of 2001 was established
-all students taking a Bachelor's course or a two yr vocational course are required to take the program,
either public or private.
-states that Males aged 18yrs old to 30 yrs old are asked to join military service.
•1980- Presidential Decree 1706 or the National Service Law was implemented
-states that it is obligatory to all Filipino yo join Civic Welfare Service, Law Enforcement Service and
Military Service.
•1991- Citizens armed Forces of Philippines Reservist Act was implemented in order to practice citizen
soldiers.
-There is 25 hours common modules that a student should have acquired before proceeding to
components of NSTP 1 & 2.
3 Components of NSTP
1.Reserve Officer's Training Corps (ROTC). - provides military training to tertiary level students in order
to motivate, train, organize and mobilize them for National defense preparedness.
2. Literacy Training Service (LTS)- designed to train students to become mentors of literacy and
numeracy skills to school children,out-of-school youth and other sectors of the society that are in need
of their service.
3. Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS)- promotes activities contributory to the general welfare and
betterment of life of the members of the community or the enhancement of the facilities (ex. Improving
health).
In general,the NSTP aims to enhance civic consciousness and defense preparedness among the youth by
developing the ethics of service and patriotism while undergoing training in any of its 3 components.
