Malang City has a lot of heritage and artistic potential, one of them is the
Malang heritage tree, namely the trembesi tree which is appointed as a batik motif.
The batik industry that carries this motif is Soendari Batik and Art Gallery. Apart
from being an industry, Soendari Batik and Art Gallery is also engaged in education
such as providing batik training and introducing Malang city icons through batik
works to the public. Batik Trembesi has been included in several exhibitions and
has been made into a uniform. However, the existence of Batik Trembesi is less
well known by the public because it has not been patented and there has been no
research related to this batik. This research goals is to find the various visualizations
and aesthetic visualizations of the Trembesi Batik Motif by Soendari Batik and Art
Gallery.
This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design.
Data collection techniques used in this reseach include observation, interviews, and
documentation. Data analysis in this study is data reduction, data presentation, and
drawing conclusions. To maintain the validity of the data, researchers used validity
checks adapted from Moleong's theory, namely the extension of participation,
persistence of observations, and triangulation of sources.
The results showed that: Trembesi motif is a type of floral and natural batik
motif that always shows trembesi leaf elements in its main motif; Additional motifs
in the form of motifs adapted from trembesi flowers are also showed in the four
batik; Some of these batik also bring out elements of classic batik; This batik uses
isen-isen on each batik to beautify the motif; Batik Trembesi uses black, brown,
dark brown, dark blue, and ultramarine blue; The Trembesi Batik motif has a
symmetrical and asymmetrical arrangement pattern with a horizontal design
structure and a combination of central, horizontal and diagonal; The Trembesi motif
is composed of cecekan or dots, pseudo-lines and geometric or non-geometric real
lines, various shapes, spaces and colors; Batik Trembesi applies various artistic
principles such as unity, harmony, comparability, rhythm, balance, and interrelated
emphasis.
From these description, it can be concluded that the Trembesi Batik Motif
has a variety of visualizations that always bring out the elements of trembesi leaves
on each batik and trembesi flowers on some of their batik which are combined with
several Malangan Motif ornaments. Batik Trembesi is composed of various
elements and principles that complement and relate to each other so that this batik
has a good and beautiful visual aesthetic quality.
