Please read the instructions carefully. You are allotted 5 minutes specifically for this purpose.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. The question paper comprises two sections, A to E. You are to attempt both the sections.
2. All questions are compulsory.
3. Write the answer to each question in the given answer-book only
4. All questions of Section-A to E are to be attempted separately.
5. There is an internal choice in two questions of three marks each and one question of five marks.
6. Question numbers 1 and 2 in Section-A are one mark question. They are to be answered
in one word or in one sentence.( Bio. : 1,2)
7. Question numbers 3 to 5 in Section- B are two marks questions. These are to be answered in
30 words each. (Phy.: 3 ; Che.: 4 ; Bio.: 5 )
18. Question numbers 6 to 15 in Section-C are three marks questions. These are to be answered in about
50 words each. (Phy.: 6,7,8,9 ; Che.: 10,11,12 ; Bio.: 13, 14, 15)
19. Question numbers 16 to 21 in Section-D are 5 marks questions. These are to be answered in 70
words

10. Question numbers 22 to 27 in Section- E are based on practical skills. Each question is a two marks
question. These are to be answered in brief. (Phy.: 22, 23 ; Che.: 24, 25 ; Bio.: 26, 27)

SECTION-A
4. Solid sodium bicarbonate was placed on a strip of pH paper. What was the change in colour?

6. If the least resistance that can be obtained by combining resistance of 6 ohm, 3 ohm and x ohm is 1 ohm,

9. State Right hand thumb rule for finding the direction of magnetic lines of force. (3 marks)
10. Identify the oxidising agent and reducing agent in each of the following reactions: (3 marks)
(i) MnO2 + 4HCl MnCl2 + Cl2 + 2H2O
(ii) CuO + H2 Cu + H2O
(iii) PbO(s) + C(s) Pb(s) + CO (g)
11. There are 3 unknown metals - A, B and C. C displaces B from its oxide, while with oxide of A, there is no
reaction. Give the reactivity order of A, B and C. (3 marks)
12. (a) If few drops of concentrated acid accidently spill over the hand of a student, what should be done?
(b) Aqueous solution of HCl shows acidic character, whereas aqueous solution of glucose does not.Why?
(c) What will you observe when a small amount of copper oxide is added in a beaker containing dilute
hydrochloric acid? (3 marks)
13. Explain process of nutrtion in amoeba. (3 marks)
14. Define the followng -
(i) Bolting effect (ii) Dormancy (iii) Nastic movement (3 marks)
15. Describe the process of urine formation in kidneys (working of nephrone). (3 marks)

17. Define resistance of a conductor. State the factors on which resistance of a conductor depends. Name the
device which is often used to change the resistance without changing the voltage source in an electric
circuit. Calculate the resistance of 50 m length of wire of cross sectional area 0.01 square mm and of
resistivity 5 X 10-8 - m (5 marks)
18. Considered the chemical equation given below and answer the questions that follow: (5 marks)

(a) Name the substance which is getting oxidised.
(b) Name the substance which is getting reduced
(c) Name the reducing agent.
(d) What type of a reaction does this equation represent?
(e) Write two names of antioxidants.

18. (i) What is reactivity series. How does the reactivity series of metals help in predicting the relative's
activities of various metals?
(ii) Suggest different chemical processes used for obtaining a metal from its oxides for metals in the middle
of the reactivity series and metals towards the top of the reactivity series. Support your answer with one
example each. (5 marks)
SECTION-E
22. If two resistances of 8 ohm each are connected in parallel , find the equivalent resistance. (2 marks)
23. For carrying out the experiment, on finding the equivalent resistance of two resistors connected in series, a
student sets up the circuit as shown. On further verification he finds out that the circuit has one or more of
the following faults. (2 marks)
(i) The resistors R1 and R2 have not been correctly connected in series.
(ii) The voltmeter has not been correctly connected in the circuit.
(iii) The ammeter has not been correctly connected in the circuit.
24. What happens when a copper strip is put in silver nitrate solution? (2 marks)
25. A student dips pH paper in solution A and B observes that the pH paper turns blue and orange respectively
in them. What does he infer? (2 marks)
