    There are several types of trumpets that make up the trumpet family. The most common is the Bb trumpet, which many players begin on. The C trumpet is very similar to the Bb but has shorter tuning slides. Other trumpets include the piccolo trumpet, which has 4 valves instead of 3 and a higher pitch, the cornet and flugelhorn which produce mellower sounds, and the pocket trumpet which is shorter and sounds different than other trumpets. The bugle has no valves.
