If you are in the marketing space, you
already know how the internet has taken
every industry by storm. It’s the new normal
for any business or brand that wants to be a
part of the digital economy.

But have you ever thought about how these

businesses compete for their share of voice
in the online world?

Well, for starters, it begins with a website.

The question, however, remains:

How can you make your website stand out?

How can you easily beat your competitor in

the one area that doesn't need a lot of
strategic thoughts or financial resources?
The area is Web Design and the
way to do it is through
Design Thinking.
What’s Design Thinking?

It’s a non-linear process that consists of five

phases:

1
Empathize
5
Prototype

3
Ideate

4
Test
Define

2
Empathize
Empathize means to put oneself in anoth-
er’s position—to listen intently to people
and understand their needs and desires.

Empathizing begins with you listening to your users and carrying out
an objective discussion on how you can create a more accessible,
useful, and problem-focused website. When you empathize, you don't
put shiny designs before utility or useableness.
Define
This is the stage where users’ needs are
assessed and written down to help
designers focus on the real issues. You
have learned about what your users want
to see on your website by empathizing
with them, now you need to pour your
heart and mind into how to analyze and
define those problems.
Ideate
Ideate means to form
an idea, to think, or to have
something to work on.

This is
the process
where you can
exercise your
creative muscle,
be imaginative, and
think out-of-the-box
ideas to help you come
up with functional and
appealing design ideas.
Prototype
Got this far? It's time to give your ideas
some real shape now.
Feasibilty
Prototype!
Solution
A prototype is
something that is
built or created as a
sample to test its
efficiency and
feasibility. Keep in
mind that this is still
an experimental
phase and the real
aim is to determine
the best possible
solution.
Efficiency

Effectiveness
Test
In the last stage, the design thinking
process requires you to test the solution
you created, redefine problems (if there
are any), and consider refinements that
are necessary to make your website work
seamlessly across all devices, channels,
and toupoints.
