LESSON 2: FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

Racket
A racket is one of the most important equipment
a player must have in badminton. It is made
from materials such as carbon fiber and lighter
metals such as aluminum which is why it is
lighter than other racket sports. Badminton
racket is composed of different parts, that
includes head, throat, shaft and handle that has
a length of 27.77 inches and 9 inches width.
Strings acts as the hitting surface of the racket
and they are stretched across the racket in a
checkered board pattern. It costs depends
whether they are purchased as expensive
models or as basic backyard set.

Shuttlecock
A shuttlecock acts similarly to a ball in other racket sports that’s why it is also called as
a shuttle or a birdie. Still and all, it designed to create more drag as it drives away with
the air. A shuttle has 2 kinds/varieties, one is made from feathers which is more
expensive than the second one which is made from plastic feathers. A shuttle is a cone
shape that is made with a hard cork on its tip. It is attached with 16 feathers on its base
and it ranges
between 2.44 to 2.75 inches.

Net
The is court is divided into two sides
by the mesh net. It has a
measurement of 30 inches wide and
a 3-inch white tape doubled on the
top. Badminton net is lower at five
feet, one-inch higher on the sides
and five feet higher in the center
than the volleyball net. The length of
the net varies depending on whether the game is singles or doubles, doubles is
reaching 22 feet and singles is reaching 17 feet.

The court must be 44x22
feet wide if playing doubles
and 44x17 feet wide if playing
singles. If players wish to
play indoor, the ceiling
must be high enough for
the shuttle to fly across the
net without hitting the ceiling
because the height of the
shuttle depends on the
strength of the players.
