Switched reluctance motor:

Firstly, we talking about Electric Motor Types : we have a DC motor and AC motor ; lets talking
about AC motor types, it have two main parts the first one is induction motor the second one is
synchronous motor, synchronous motor Divided into three sections:
(a)Separately excited synchronous motor (b) permanent magnet synchronous motor (c)
reluctance motor
Reluctance motors have two main parts is a synchronous reluctance motor and a switched
reluctance motor
Switched Reluctance Motor: is known too as Variable Reluctance Motor.
This motor works on the principle of variable reluctance. This means, the rotor always tries to
range or align along the lowest reluctance path. As the name suggests, a switching inverter is
required for the operation of Switched Reluctance Motor.
It has a rotor inside and a stator outside, for example, we have a 6:4 SRM that is mean the stator
has 6 poles and the rotor have 4 poles ; the stator has three-phase symmetrical winding, that
cause we find in the air gap sinusoidal rotating magnetic field.
The reluctance torque is developed because the induced magnetic field in the rotor tends to cause
the rotor to line up with the stator field at a minimum reluctance position.
CONSTRUCTION:
The stator of the SRM is built by layers of punched stacking silicon and steel laminations to the
suitable length , It has it has salient poles and carries concentrate windings, The rotor doesn't
contain winding or a permanent magnet.. The currents in the stator coils are usually controlled by
semiconductor switches between the coil and the voltage source, by using a signal from a
position sensor mounted on the motor shaft at the appropriate time instants.
 Advantages of SRM : 1-simply construction 2-high efficiency 3-high torque inertia 4-high
torque to weight ratio 5-high power to weight ratio 6- there is no conductors and permanent
magnetic that cause its economic.

Disadvantages of SRM : High torque ripple , high noise

Some of application we can use Switched Reluctance Motor :
1-Robotics Applications. 2-AutomationWashing machines .3- Fans.
