Cattle: I had the privilege of growing up around

cows. My dad brought me around the farm

ever since I can remember, and I fell in love
with the big goofy animals. Raising cattle and
watching them grow has become a passion of
mine just like it did my dad. Without a doubt,
my future will involve working with cows.
Farming: Growing up, I was always involved
with the farm. I rode in tractors with my dad
all the time and played with farm
equipment/animals more than dolls. When
we started living on the farm, I became
more involved with things. I really enjoy
running equipment and working for my dad.
After all, not many girls can say they have
rain a grain cart, worked ground, and cut hay
(for example). Unfortunately, everyone on
my snapchat has seen enough videos of me
turning dirt to do it on their own.
Gardening: Over the course of the shutdown I developed
myself what you could call a slightly unhealthy
obsession with plants. I have 16 succulents and
cactuses, and my collection keeps magically growing. I
can’t explain it. This spring I put my own garden in and
it produced really well, and I haven’t killed my
houseplants yet. You could say I have a green thumb, I
won’t complain. ;)
Photography: No, I wouldn’t consider myself extraordinarily
great at photography, but I find it satisfying to take a picture
of my surroundings in their natural state and have the image
turn out good. Being able to remember moments in my life
that were either significant or enjoyable is really important to
me. My camera roll is full of sunsets, cows, and farm
equipment, but I don’t consider it a bad thing.
Classic: I have some pretty oldschool interests. My playlists contain a
significant amount of classic country and rock. I’d choose early
morning coffee with my grandpa in a little diner over McDonald’s
any day, and believe me that is saying something because I do like
the food chain. I’m captivated by the smell of fresh cut hay, fresh
worked dirt, and the smell of my grandma’s cooking. During my rare
spare time, I enjoy watching old westerns like Gunsmoke, and also
the Andy Griffith Show. Honestly, I think the world just needs a little
bit of a slow down and a trip back home.
Farm Endorsement: Getting my f-endorsement is
actually a very big goal of mine. I absolutely love
riding in trucks, how they look, and how they sound.
It’s just a magical combination. Being able to drive
a semi, even if it’s just for my dad during harvest
or for farm purpose, would be one of the coolest
things in the world to me.

Heeler: Words cannot describe how badly I

want a dog of the heeler breed. They’re cattle
dogs, gritty, and have very hyper personalities.
They do not enjoy sitting still, which makes one
perfect for me! All the ones that I have met are
really sweet and I think they’re the cutest little
dogs ever.
Cow Vet: I alway knew I wanted to do something ag
related, mainly to do with cattle. It wasn’t until I took
a veterinary science class last year that I considered
being a vet. Working in an office is not an option for
me, and I don’t want to be confined to a clinic. When I
began looking around and realized that being a vet
specializing in bovines was a thing, I was convinced.
Seeing other farm set-ups and operations gets me
excited, so taking farm calls would be right up my
alley. Helping cows is a reason enough for me!
Feedlot Operator: In the last slide I told you I wanted to be a cow
veterinarian. Times are changing, smaller farms are going away and most
big farms have their own vets. If all else fails, I know that raising cattle is
my thing. Running a beef farm combines it all, Feeding and doctoring cattle,
running equipment, doing business and making a name for yourself. I have
learned a lot from my dad, you can manage the farm or you can operate it.
My dad can tell you what farm every feeder calf came from, he keeps his
cows healthy and as soon as one seems off we address the issue. I learned
how important it is to have a relationship with everyone you do business
with. Reputation means a lot in agriculture. The market isn’t always in favor
of the farmer, but if you do a good job with your beef and play the game
right it makes a difference. I was able to watch my dad grow his flow of
cattle from 20-30 head being sold in the winter to 140, and he is always
working to add on more. A dream of mine is to give my future kids the
same pride in hearing the auctioneer at the stockyards immediately
recognizing your cattle and say “now that’s a Prowse beef.”
Agvocate: Farming advocate. It saddens me that
there are so many misconceptions about the beef and
dairy industries, or agriculture itselfs. Food animal
production is under attack. We don’t neglect our
animals until slaughter, happy animals mean healthy
animals. You should never listen to information from
someone not actively in the industry. What is the best
way to get information out and spread the truth?
Social media! I follow a lot of agriculture accounts on
Instagram, and you won’t find this type of passion in
a career any place else. Although using social media
for advocating and defending the life I live isn’t
something I currently do, I think that I can see
myself looking into this in the future.
