This assignment consists of TWO parts. Answer BOTH.

(i) “Vocabulary acquisition – both receptive and productive – is important in reading.


Accurate and automatic word recognition skills are prerequisites for fluent reading”
(HBET3303 Module, p.67). The statement above highlights the importance of vocabulary
knowledge for reading. Based on your reading of the two material given above, discuss
how you will help your students to enhance their vocabulary while studying on their own
under the MCO.
Note: the reading material above are given to provide you with some ideas and
suggestions to help you complete this assignment.

(ii) Besides vocabulary knowledge, learners also need to develop text attack skills and
reading strategies to become competent readers. Based on THREE text attack skills
and/or reading strategies, design the activities for EACH of the chosen skill/strategy to be
implemented in a skill-based intensive reading experience under the MCO.

b) Provide an appropriate text to be used by the students with the activities
above.
c) Provide justification/rationale for the activities designed.
