THINK BIGGER

THINK BETTER
A new vision for
HAYWARDS HEATH

LABOUR’S VIEW ON THE FUTURE OF HAYWARDS HEATH & CLAIR HALL

(Please note, the following comments are the views of Haywards Heath’s Labour Party candidates. We have no
affiliation with the apolitical Save Clair Hall campaign)

As Labour Party candidates for West Sussex County Council elections in May 2021 we welcome our MP’s
support for improving the Haywards Heath Master Plan. It is heartening to read that she agrees with our
advice for a revised, ambitious plan. Haywards Heath is the fastest growing town in Mid Sussex, and that
is why we implore the council to think bigger and better for the future of local residents.

Last December the Labour Party’s response to Mid Sussex Council’s consultation on the Master Plan em-
phasised the need to make the plan more ambitious and forward looking. We now urge councillors to
follow our and Mims Davies’ advice to make Clair Hall an inclusive facility suitable for future generations.

In our view the decision taken to close Clair Hall was rushed and based on questionable data. Like many
in Mid Sussex we see how wrong the decision was. The building is vital now as a Covid 19 Vaccination
hub just as it was vital before as a Polling Station, a blood donation, meeting and entertainment venue.

In our view, a strategy to consolidate is insufficient. We must be bold and ambitious in our plans to de-
velop our public services according to the growing needs of the community. Most importantly, the com-
munity must be consulted. We note that the Save Clair Hall campaign group and the Haywards Heath
CIC have raised very valid, powerful and constructive contributions on Clair Hall. The council must take
these contributions on board as they undergo a full public and democratic consultation on the future of
Clair Hall.

As candidates, we note the hard work community groups are putting into the campaign. We congratu-
late them on their victories so far and encourage them to keep fighting and to continue to contribute as
we plan for the future of our much loved venue.
